Food wasn’t as fresh as it could have been, and wasn’t very flavorful either. There’s much better Chinese fast food places around.

I love this place. This lady is the best. I give her a hard time on the phone when I order delivery and she knows its me and does not need to ask me for my address.(«I WANTMYFOODRIGHTNOW!!!») Big hugs for her.

This place is great!!! I was super cold and hungry the day before a snow storm and decided to come in here for a quick eat. Initially, I wanted to eat something Mediterranean considering that I was in Astoria, but ended up ordering chicken with broccoli(stir fried with no oil) and boy was it GOOD!!! More so, the white rice that came with my chicken and broccoli was amazing. Usually my experience at other Chinese Fast Food is that the rice is dry or of cheaper quality but the one here was cooked absolutely perfect. I also ordered two fried chicken wings(instead of the usual four), and they happily accommodated my request. The wings were marinated nicely and they were big. Definitely not pigeon wings(lol). If I’m around this neighborhood, let’s just say I would not mind coming back. However, if I live in this neighborhood, let’s just say this would be my go to Chinese take-out food place!

Pretty standard but competent American Chinese food. Very cheap, and has quick service. The woman who runs the front of house(7 days a week I think?!) is friendly.

Delicious Chinese food. We always get the Chicken Lo Mein with extra chicken and a delicious beef with ginger. Amazing! High quality food, fresh veggies, popping flavors. We love it! We havent gotten delivery yet but we take out and the food has always been quickly prepared and flavorful. Will be back on a weekly basis!

Idk why there are bad reviews about this place, service is great — Shirley(the owner) is super nice, food is cooked quickly and delivery is fast as well. It’s Chinese take-out not 5 star meal w/that said the food is tasty. I’ve tried other places in Astoria and other boroughs in NY this is by far my favorite!

This place is part of my life. The Mexican/Italian place is now Salernos and it’s pretty good. This is not fine dining people. Happy Happy the Chinese take out part is fantastic-«Shirley» is a doll. The take out comes lightning quick and it’s delicious– I usually get BBQ Spareribs or Sesame Chicken or Kung Poo Double Ding or a Chow Mei Fun dish. They’re always attentive to any requests I make and as I said before super fast. They’ll never get a Michelin star but to me –a busy, hungry guy –they’re #1

It seems Astoria with it’s vast array of culinary delights: Greek, Turkish, BBQ, Indian, etc., lacks a proper Chinese sit down restaurant. Maybe there is no demand for Chinese food in Astoria, LIC, but I see so many take out places that this is not the answer. Maybe because we are so close to Chinatown in Flushing. Maybe, who knows the reason. So, with lack of choices, we are left with these take out joints that seem to be located by every train station on the N line. We have 3 take out places on 30th Ave. and Happy Garden is one. It is your standard«Americanize Chinese» restaurant. It has standard food options. It has standard pricing. Even the menu seems to be standard among the American Chinese take out joints. Happy Garden serves a purpose. It participates in Grub-Hub, no more language barriers. They seem to get the order right, but half the time they miss the«hot oil» with my order. Not the end of the world, but come on man. Best part, deliver is fast. Real fast. I am only 500 feet from their front door. The quality of food is OK within the standardize American Chinese menu. Dumplings, ribs, chow mien, lo mien, general this and delight that. Standard beef, chicken, pork and shrimp dishes. I have learned over the years that you stick with the basics in American Chinese take out joints. Soup, lo mien, rice, chow mien and their lunch special, all Americanize dishes. I have learn to enjoy their roast pork lo mien, not bad. Tasty and not oily. Their pork fried rice decent. Also, tasty and not oily. Dumplings are just a filler. Nothing to write home about. Soups seem to be their best item. Always hot, tasty and not salty. Lunch special also very standard, $ 6.95 with entrée, soup and soda. Overall, Happy Garden has a niche within the community. They provide inexpensive Chinese food for delivery and take out. While it is Americanize the food always seems to be hot, even on cold winter nights. I walk by their front door every day and I see that Magic«A», big plus with me.

Welcome to Happy Garden. It’s a magical land where food tastes as if it is made of recycled newspaper pulp. Your palate won’t be needed here, weary traveler. So sit back, relax and chew for chewing’s sake. Chew for the jaw exercise. Chew because generations of brave Americans fought for your right to chew bland, wholly mediocre food if you so choose. The General Tso’s is like styrofoam chunks slathered in mystery sauce. The egg roll was mostly dough. My wife described the cashew chicken as «slimy». The hot and sour soup was so utterly forgettable, I’ve already forgotten it… and only finished it 3 minutes ago. Need I go on? This is what I get for deviating from my go-to Chinese spot.

What an utterly confusing setup. I’ve been to this place more times than I can count and had no idea it was connected to the Italian/Tex Mex place next door! I guess I can only speak to the«Chinese» side of the establishment, which is pretty standard as far as Chinese food goes. I’m sure we all have our ONE tried-and-true takeout place, and this is it for me. The woman at the counter is so sweet and knows my order every time. When I’m feeling particularly controversial, I’ll order a different thing off the menu and confuse her, with both of our worlds turned upside down for a moment.

The food is pretty standard Chinese american takeout. What sets it apart is the owner who runs the counter. This tiny middle aged lady is seemingly happy and energetic 100% of the time. The type of lady who’s incredibly personable but you’d never dare to cross. She remembers your order down to the hot sauce and beverage choice which went into effect for us after 2 take outs. There’s absolutely nothing to the ambiance but as long as you know why you’re going, you’re in biz.

*WARNING* You have to do your own calculation when you order otherwise, they will charge you extra ! ! ! Twice this month they charged me more than what I supposed to pay. The first time I only calculated that I will pay $ 37 for my order, she charged me $ 53! I asked her if she could show me how she came up with that amount, then she said it is only $ 39.70(still more from my calculation). The second time, my calculation is only for $ 22(yeah i put taxes), but she charged me $ 23 when she even forgot to charge me for the soup that I ordered. Their food is great, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think I would be going back and be cheated. So when you order, make sure you make your own calculation, and ask for receipt! Otherwise, you will be charged more ! ! !

If I could give this no stars I would. Too lazy to go into the city or flushing for Chinese food we figured we would cross our fingers and order from this place. It was terrible! General Tsos shrimp coated in this thick gross batter, the shrimp tasted fishy(old and nasty).inedible Lobster lomein was not lobster it was crawfish also tasted nasty and inedible Even the white rice was bad. how does a chinese takeout place mess up the white rice? Wontons in oil were ok Crab rangoon was actually good We already knew that good chinese food was impossible in Astoria but after reading Unilocal and seeing the positive reviews we had hoped this place would have passed for at least ok in an emergency. it didnt.

We recently moved to the area and haven’t gotten settled yet so we ordered at about 10:40p.m., when they close at 11:00 p.m. and they told us it was no problem to order delivery at that time(which is nice). Obviously, it is American Chinese take-out food – so don’t expect authentic Chinese. The food arrived SOO fast – we finished the order by 10:45 and our food was at our door at 11:00 exactly. VERY fast! :) Also, the food arrived VERYHOT! Which is also really great! :-) Crab rangoon: Very good!(We will order it again!) Pork Dumplings: Not good.(We will NOT order again) Generals Chicken: Very good!(We will order it again!) Sesame beef: Alright, pretty good.(Might order again, but probably not) Pork fried rice: Not great.(Just plain fried rice would be better, I did not eat the pork pieces, they are like rubber) Now, the prices were great! VERY inexpensive! Delivered quickly, arrived hot, and inexpensive! We will definitely be ordering from them again and it might become our new take-out American Chinese place.

Order takeout from here, chinese takeout that is, not sure where the pizza/italian reviews are coming from. I asked for a menu and didnt see any pizzas on there, so that is weird. Anyway what I ordered: Crab ragoon — pretty good actually Pork dumplings — good Ribs — good Beef lo mein — terrible — no flavor and weird beef Chicken and garlic sauce — the chicken wasn’t scary which was good, but the sauce was so oily Even the rice was cheap and alot had black bits on it. Overall… DONOT order from here… there’s definitely better Chinese out there. I used to like Lilly’s but its closed down and I’m trying to find my new spot. But this is NOT it!

I ordered«THEFAMOUS» Chicken Cutlet Pizza all for myself and I’m still trying to figure out how can anyone rate 5STARS for this thing. This one goes down as one of the worst Pizzas I’ve had. I was hungry as hell and I could barely go thru with 3 slices.BARELY. I’m sorry«FANS» but that’s how I feel. Here are some reasons: 1. Real cheap quality cheese. I felt like I’m chewing upon rubber. I tried reheating the Pizza, which obviously did not help. Only if Reheating could make bad cheap Cheese taste better. 2. Every single piece of fried chicken was burnt at the edges. Burnt as in it was burnt BLACK. For the $ 15.50 I paid for it. You should save it.
