Affordable and delicious!!! Honestly one of the best maple bars and apple fritters I have ever had. If you’re in the area you HAVE to make the stop.

This is the worst bakery I have ever visited. There are yellow jacket bees in the display case where the baked goods were. It made me want to throw up. in addition their selection of baked goods was very limited and they tasted awful. It tasted dry and stale like they had been sitting in the case for several days. I would not recommend eating from this place because it didn’t seem very clean and the lady working there was not very friendly either. I think that the people who wrote positive reviews about this place for either related to the owners or blind because this place is disgusting!

After reading some of the glowing reviews about Danish Maid Bakery, I was sure I would have an enjoyable experience at this bakery. Unfortunately, what I found walking into Danish Maid was not only disappointing, but borderline repulsive. My husband and I were in Astoria for two nights and had read some pretty wonderful reviews about Danish Maid, as I mentioned above. We decided to visit on a Saturday afternoon, and upon entering the bakery, we found it totally empty. It wasn’t just that there weren’t any other customers, but there seemed to be no one working there, either. We spent the next five minutes standing at the counter, talking, trying to make our presence known… when we noticed the yellow jackets. I should say, at the time, the selection of pastries was pretty scare(just donuts and fritters spread here and there in the glass case). What pastries *were* there were being fed on by a handful of yellow jackets(yes, in the case)! With no one to serve us, and now slightly put-off by the feeding yellow jackets, we left Danish Maid in search of something better. Really, we could have found similar donuts and fritters at just about any gas station in town. There was nothing special about these pastries.(Unless you like pre-chewed yellow jacket ones!)

Gosh it’s hard to even offer 2 stars but I appreciated the effort made to offer a wide selection. However, I think the efforts would be better suited to maintaining the cleanliness. It didn’t matter how many cookies or donuts or cute treats you could choose between… the cases were FILTHY. The rotating cake case actually had mold in it. Everything was dirty top to bottom in the display area so I question the cleanliness in the BACK. What they should do is raise their prices(we paid $ 5.95 for four people to each have 1 – 2 items), master a dozen really great things(as opposed to 30 – 40 things) and CLEAN.

This is the worst bakery in the world. The owner treated me like dirt they acted like I was 2nd class they treated me with no respect. I will never ever come her again not even over my dead body.

Total small-town, old-school bakery. The apple fritter was a wee-bit greasy but the danish was fantastic! And super reasonable prices.

The ambiance is casual, the smell is amazing and the cookies were great! Definitely a small town place, with incredibly affordable prices for the quality… and the flavor a are classic and delicious. Had a chocolate meringue with walnuts that was certainly worth ever calorie! Thumbs up!

Family sent me out in search of donuts, and I prefer little hole in the wall bakeries to your big box safeway donuts. This place was pretty cool, decent variety of donuts. Kids were happy there were sprinkles on their donuts. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is they didn’t have any cake donuts.

This is the ONLY place I buy birthday cakes. Cakes are always moist, delicious, affordable, there are numerous options, and they’re great about decorating! Plus the family is SUPER friendly and knows their customers. Love this place!

Really good, no frills bakery. The donuts, cinnamon bread, and snecken are particularly delicious. Nice staff. Was there in the afternoon and the pastries tasted very fresh. Will visit again.

Oh WOW! Yummy is all I can say. Best frosted butter cookies ever. Bought only 1 to snack on. ate it, turned back around and bought more. They melt in your mouth! Donuts to die for. I told they lady she needed to raise her prices. Very reasonable. Homemade loaves of bread for 1.50 $ I pay 6 $ at Great Harvest in Portland and this was even better.

The apple-stuffed snicker doodle? Oh my. For late in the day the baked goods were still fresh and flavorful. The prices are real deal. The place is a little tired, so the booths aren’t terribly inviting. A little refresh, maybe some reupholstery and a floating floor over the very tired and a bit time worn one might go a long way to grab that last star.

Whoa. This is quite the treasure. It may not be beautifully furnished or the most up to date; however, if your taste buds are working this is the place. The looks of the pastries were nice, but nothing overly fancy. I saw good reviews online so I figured I should buy a few things before heading out of town. I should have bought the whole store. True Scandinavian style cookies, turnovers, and mini pies. The apple turnover was big and just the right amount of crispy. There was this mini blueberry pie that had a delicious glaze. It tasted as if it was made minutes before I ate it. I know I ordered at least 10 cookies and they were a wonderful compliment to my coffee. I would highly recommend the Swedish dream cookies. She rang me up for at least 14 different items and the bill came to 9.00. My mom and I agreed that it was one of the best bakeries we have ever been to.

For the longest time, I assumed that I was buying day-old bread, because of the insanely low price they were charging. But it tasted too good to be old, so I looked into it, and it turns out that that’s just the price they charge for a fresh loaf. It’s dirt cheap, and I have no idea how they could possibly make any money this way. A financial advisor would shoot them a FOUL glare if he/she ever found out what they charging people. Also, the donuts are nothing short of amazing, but I would take a pass on the coffee. It’s not a fancy coffee shop by any means, nor does it try to be. But you literally cannot beat it for the price of their baked goods. AUTHOR’S NOTE: The lady at the counter wears an In Flames hoodie!

Great prices, great service. My partner said it was the best turnover she ever had, better than her grandmas. My donuts were outta this world. I can’t wait to go back.

As we strolled through Astoria window shopping, the wonderful smells of fresh baked goods beckoned us to the door. Everything looked amazing. The place itself did show signs of its advanced age. We tried the pumpkin bars and a TV pastry. The pumpkin bars were very moist with a fluffy frosting. They were made from real pumpkin and the nutmeg was exceptionally represented. TV pastry had a nice light flakey crust, the filling seemed like it had come from a can. The woman at the counter was warm, very friendly and answered all of our questions with a smile, as she deliciously reveled in our pain to make a decision.

Simple delicious non-gluten free goodness. There is no espresso, horned rim glasses, or vegan fritters. This place is old school deep fried dough in the best possible way. Friendly service and 1980’s prices. My favorite is their buttermilk bars(dipped in standard drip coffee) and chocolate bismark(sp?). They also sell excellent bread and I have heard they even do birthday cakes. Anyways check this place out… by far my favorite bakery in the NW.
