Astoria World Manor

We recently had our daughter’s Quinceañera on June 5^th at the Regency room at Astoria World Manor.
Our event manager Juan, coordinated all the details to the event. After shopping around at different venues, the price was reasonable, handicap accessible, plenty of free parking. Juan ensure all requests were met with a smile. The entire staff knew our family by name.
Our Maitre D’, Angie was amazing, she was on point the entire night. Angie is very attentive, she greeted our daughter and the court of honor and made them feel comfortable. The wait staff was courteous. The selected dishes were tasty. The room was amazingly decorated, the sparkling chandeliers were turn pink for the event to match the décor; the yummy cake was a gorgeous three-​tier cake, our event felt like a true fairy-​tale event.
We enjoyed this venue so much that we are planning our next event.
We highly recommend you choose Astoria World Manor. Ask for Juan and Angie!

They should really think about updating the place. Everything about it says late 70s from the floral print wallpaper to the chipped glossy Formica bathrooms.

Terrible… the bathrooms haven’t been updated since the 80’s, the appetizers are low grade frozen food, the wines are so cheap they taste like vinegar. We asked the bartender for a glass of wine and she said «hold on I don’t have an opener».
The plates where we were suppose to eat diner were chipped along the edges, the forks looked dull and dirty. The décor was terrible, white sheets hanging from the ceiling covering the outdated 1980’s wall paper all through out the room.
We were unfortunately invited here for a christening and although going in we knew it was going to be bad, once there we couldn’t wait to leave, the place is run down and in desperate need of remodeling.
I can never ever recommend this place to anyone looking to throw a party. I hope to never be back here again. I’ll give one start otherwise it won’t let me post my review.

This place is unique because of it’s size… it has 10 party rooms that range in size from 50 – 1000 people or so. There’s a good chance that it will be pretty full; on the night I was there there were parties going on all over the place — with music blasting from most of the ball rooms. Fortunately the sound insulation is pretty good. The variety of parties reflected the diversity that is Queens, NY.
The other distinguishing characteristic here is age — this place clearly hasn’t been refurbished in decades. The rooms are all very elaborately and elegantly decorated — it’s nice from a distance and pretty in picture. But the age clearly shows if you look closely — especially in the carpets and corners.
Food was a bit of a let down — but then again most place like this have lousy food. The appetizer hour had a lot of food that ranged from OK (nice fruit spread) to meh (the hot food/​carving station food was so poor that hardly anyone got anything). The main course was a steak ordered medium rare but cooked way, way past that (almost well done). It’s not the worst steak I’ve ever but it’s in the bottom five. The potatoes were probably the best part of the dinner, but I’m pretty sure they were made off site and then heated up locally. (They looked like the kind of thing you’d pick up at Costco’s).
Service was a mixed bag — some of the staff seemed like they’d been there as long as the decorations. The bartender was friendly enough, but most of the staff seemed disinterested — like they’d rather be anywhere else.
I still had a lot of fun at the party I went to, but I’m not sure I’d ever recommend it to anyone hosting an event.

I would not recommend this reception hall to my worst enemy. I attended a friends wedding here and the conditions of this hall was not fit for a once in a lifetime moment. The chapel was stuffy and smelly, the ceiling was dripping water. The reception hall knew this, they had large plastic buckets out to collect the water. You could hardly get a comfortable seat in the chapel because the water in the carpet and the sound of it dripping. The bridal party was large and with the ceiling dripping water all of the men had to jam up on the stage with the bridesmaids. I felt so bad for my friend. How could the photographer get good pictures when your hall is in shambles.
The food was nothing to talk about and not to mention the attitude on one of the female attendants. I understand that it is expensive to have a wedding but I would never recommend this place. Look around and drive past AWM.

I’ve been here 3 times, and every time that I went I had a great time. 2 occasions were a Christmas party and 1 time was a birthday party. The servers are attentive in my option. I never was treated badly or spoken to rudely. From when I entered to looking for the bathroom, someone was always helpful in helping me find what I was looking for. Every even I went to Chucky (I believe that’s his name) a manger was always nice and friendly. Even cracking jokes with us. I will return.

Attended an unforgettable 60^th birthday party in this place. First of all, the party was great! Everyone seems to have a wonderful time. We have no complaints about the food. The place itself needs a major upgrade, the carpet looks rusty and there’s no sound proof that we could hear the music from the room next door. The worst part is the waiter’s attitude that’s why I’m giving this place a 2 star. A waiter named GUSTAVO was so rude, he looked like he was not happy with his job at all! He pushed one of the guests twice without saying «excuse me» that when the guest confronted him, he walked away without apologizing. Very poor customer service, bad reflection on your business. Astoria Manor, you need to look into this.

I had my wedding here. Let me start by saying I had a wonderful night, but what got me really pissed off and aggravated at this place was that they didn’t respect my decision. I had an Albanian and Ecuadorian wedding, our families had thrown money for us, as an Albanian tradition. We told our maitre-​d that at the end of the night we will be taking it and not to give it to anyone but the bride and the groom. This person did the opposite and when we confronted her she said «that is not what the tradition is about, you’re not supposed to get this money».I’ve never heard of a place where a personnel does whatever he/​she wants with someone else’s decisions. I called them so many times to see what is it that they can do and till now they are not able to help me. They really made sure that we pay them everything that we owed them but they were not able to provide us with any information about the money that was given to us from our families.

WHAT AN UNFORGETTABLE NIGHT!!! At first I was skeptical about this venue because I thought it was too close to where I live but at the end of the night, i was extremely happy with the customer service and food at this place. We had the privilege to have Jay Ahn as our wedding coordinator. He was extremely patient as well as professional and an amazing personality. If I was to hire him again I definitely would. He never pressured us and was willing to listen to our questions and requests. We chose to have the buffet style dinner over the usual sit down waiter served menu and I must say, I was very impressed. The cake was provided by them and it was so delicious. The whole staff was wonderful, I couldn’t be more happier to have our reception at Astoria World Manor! –Javier and Daisy.

I had both of my sons Bar Mitzvah receptions at the Astoria world Manor. Just the fact that I came back for round two already indicates my satisfaction with the first reception. I found that all the food was quite good, definitely a step above the usual catering hall fare. The facilities were very clean and our host, whose name I have unfortunately forgotten, was extremely helpful throughout the whole process from planning to party. Some reviewers have indicated that parts of the catering hall appeared run down. The carpet closest to the parking lot was a bit threadbare but you really don’t spend any time there, do you? My family and I or most satisfied with both of our reception at the Astoria world Manor. And, as far as I know, all of my guests were quite satisfied as well.

I want to start by saying the wedding I attended was beautiful !
THIS PLACE STINKS! THE CARPET IS OLD AND SMELLY. Food nasty. Staff experienced. Dont eat the mac and cheese at all. Dont try. If you can pick somewhere else please do. If you have t attend make the best of it. The alcohol was fine. The bartender was lazy let us service our selves. smh

Our best friend got married here and highly recommended Kevin. Your wedding was beautiful and amazing. I recently had my wedding here in the chapel we had the ceremony and for the reception we had the fountain room for about 50 people. We had an amazing unforgettable day thanks to Kevin. He was very professional, caring, nice, understanding and he listened to what we needed. I would highly recommend you using Kevin as your banquet manager. And I highly recommend that anyone on a low budget that’s looking for an affordable wedding go here.

I had my wedding here on May 2, 2015. I decided to cater my own wedding because of the bad reviews about the food. First let me give praise for the staff. They were phenomenal, everything I asked for they did. My guest loved them! Jay was our point of contact and he did a great job. He was professional and took a lot of stress off of me. I am a Executive Chef and The owner of an Event Planning company. So to have someone with the same standards as myself was extremely helpful. Now on to the bad!
I had my kitchen meet my son and sister at the hall to oversee the traying of the food. I sent the food warm so it only needed about ½ hour warming time. The Astoria Chef’s told my sister and son, as well as my staff, «Don’t worry about the heating they will handle it.» Needless to say my guest ate cold food. Why because I was also told that hot water was replaced with cold water in the Chaffing dishes! This again was done on the order of the kitchen staff of Astoria. I sent an email requesting a sit down with all parties involved and have been ignored. As a professional chef this was unacceptable. As the Bride I am hurt and ashamed! What was supposed to be a happy day for me turned into a nightmare! I am still hearing «the food was cold but good!» How embarrassing and the kitchen staff of Astoria should be ashamed of themselves, but I bet they could care less in seeing their actions on my Wedding Day!

I had my wedding here on May 2^nd 2015. And overall it was a wonderful experience. Due to the various health needs of a few of our guests, we informed our event host that we would need to provide our own food. Jay was very helpful though out the planning phase. He informed us that we would have access to warm our food, but on the date when our servers attempted to warm the food along the kitchen staff told them they could not be back there and they would warm the food up, they never warmed up our food, also the wood was in the warmers lukewarm with cold water. When asked why the water was not hot we was told that the kitchen staff removed the hot water out of the chaffing dishes and replaced it with cold water. How unprofessional, we thought that the kitchen staff would feel some kind of way having the food catered outside but never expected that they would willfully sabotage our wedding day. Also staff members were coming to our full bar staff grabbing free drinks.
All and all our guests had a wonderful time. The candles they provided us was beautiful, unfortunately the bridal party didn’t receive any at the bridal table so myself and my wife went home without one.
I truly love the way Jay and our hostesses treated us and the hall was beautiful.
I just cannot give them 5 stars because of the kitchen staff unprofessionalism. I waited to give my review until I was able to reach management at Astoria World Manor but has been unable to do so at this time.

Last time I was here was 22 years ago for a wedding and it was outrageous, premier catering hall in queens. How times have changed, I went to a function tonight and after reading the reviews and that the health department shut it down in February, I wasn’t looking forward to it. I went with an open mind. Staff was great, parking attendants were lazy but servers and bartenders were great. The cocktail hour had servers walking around with what appeared to be elios frozen pizza, steakums on a stick and some other finger food. When buffet opened nothing was hot, pepper steak was cold and chewy. Chicken Marsala was like eating warm rubber Linguini with clam sauce was like they opened the can and dumped it in a bowl without heating it. It is unbelievable they can serve food like that. I’m glad it wasn’t a wedding.

This is going to be one long helpful review.
The room was 95% of what I expected it to be, it looked good. 1 chair was broken out of 64 but Chuck the M’D changed it out straight away. I really liked Chuck he was on top of EVERYTHING. The food according to my guest was good with the exception of the Mac and Cheese (some said it tasted and looked like box Mac and Cheese) I wouldn’t know because I didn’t eat. I was too busy making my daughter’s guests comfortable (which they were). I did take pictures of the food though and it did look like box Mac and Cheese but it’s whatever. The birthday girl said her meat was cold but that’s okay cold meat never killed any of my guest. No one complained about being sick after the party so that’s a great sign that the food was on point. The fruit display was EVERYTHING. Everyone commented on how fresh the fruit tasted and how beautiful it looked. Again, Chuck along with all of the other staff at my daughter’s party were attentive and respectful.
Ask for Anthony to be your bartender, he is very professional and he knows what he is doing– excellent service «A.» I’ll be requesting him for my daughter’s party next year as well. He is now a MD –congrats.
The great thing about Astoria Manor was that they packed up the left over food we had left and we were able to take it home. Let me say this all though I didn’t get to eat at the party I did eat at home the next day. The sausage and peppers and the BBQ ribs were delicious. So, I know what my other daughter is adding to her menu next year for her Quinceanera! I will list the foods everyone agreed tasted good: The fried chicken, sweet and sour chicken, chicken w/​broccoli, beef w/​broccoli, turkey, ham, sausage and peppers, arroz con pollo, shrimp fried rice, Penne Ala Vodka, & the baked ziti.
Esther our party manager: An «A» to her she was NOT annoying or coming into the party every single second. I hate when managers come into the party every single time you turn around. She did her job, she came in a few times throughout the party to make sure everything was on point and she didn’t make herself noticable at all. I really liked her.
Only gripe: My husband was a bit upset that he had to pay teen prices for 2 children out of the 8 children we had at this party. He really was upset he kept saying it’s not even about the money it was more about ²⁄₈ kids being charged as teens. All 8 children were between the ages of 3 – 10 years old. To me we ended up with an okay deal at the end though so…
My 16 year old daughter’s room/​suite downstairs in Astoria Manor was clean (she has OCD). There was a fruit tray, drinks, and snacks in her room. She fell in love with the studio garden. The pictures came out awesome. The photographer actually commented on how it was nice in the studio garden and how bright it was. It does however, need some touch ups on the paint, but that’s really all.
The cake: If you see the picture of the cake I uploaded it looked very pretty. However, it’s official venue cakes are beyond beautiful but most are nasty sorry it’s true. Nevertheless, I knew that it was nasty and I still asked for it because it wasn’t for eating it was more for the décor and this daughter’s birthday was actually the following Monday so… So if you read this review in its entirety and do your research you now have a heads up on the cake at this venue so don’t complain when you ask for the cake and it doesn’t taste good! Nevertheless, one can always opt for cookie/​snack trays instead of the cake.
On to the bathroom: OMG it was clean when we arrived about 4:40pm and dirty about 2 hours after. I love Astoria Manor but boy do you guys need the cleaning staff to keep up with that female bathroom. Just put it this way my girlfriends walked me to the bathroom and I had to clean something up just so that my other guests wouldn’t see it! The floor was beyond nasty! I should mention that there were about 4 other parties going on that day which most likely contributed to the messy bathroom.
So as you can read there were no issues within my daughter’s party room, my daughter’s party manager –Esther, the bartender Anthony, Chuck, the other staff, and food were all on point so that warrants my 4 stars. The price is a tiny bit high and the bathroom– yuck so negative 1 star. If your party is anything like my daughter’s– you will agree Astoria Manor is nothing less than 4 stars. I threw my mom a surprise 50^th birthday party and decided to do it here.
Basically just going to list it rather than tell a story,
they lied to me, they are very unprofessional (very), they lost my contract, the MajerDee is so rude!
Good things are, though people did get sick from the food, there is a HUGE selection of food, they ARE NOT ACCOMMODATING WITH IT! EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A FRIDAY DURING LENT!
Finally, if you can do further your research, try your very best to avoid this place!
The only nice person here is a manager named Kevin.

Great party, Horrible Ghetto staff that should all be fired! My family had a little family dispute and the staff took it upon themselves to get involved and jump someone who was apologizing and trying to make peace !! Very unprofessional staff!

Best baby shower from the food to decorations. The manager Kevin was on top of everything. Doing my Xmas party here just because I was happy.

While I certainly enjoyed a family wedding at the World Manor, including enough soca classics to wine and go down like a jack in the box, the surrounding service and sustenance was disappointing.
As a fossil fuel burner, the location is easily accessible off the Grand Central. There’s even a parking lot so you are spared the joy of circling for a spot. The N and the Q are also nearby as mass transit options.
However, my initial enthusiasm of the easy commute was tempered by my increasing appetite for food and drink which was not at all satisfied during the cocktail hour.
A party of 100 – 120 people that’s serviced by two wait staff will likely lead to shortages as there’s simply not enough trays making their way to the people. Such was the case as the trays slowly arrived only to invoke disappointment as I sampled what was on the tray: tiny meatballs and small wedges of pizza. I’d have been happier if a slice of Sicilian or even domino’s was quartered but this instead reminded me of a Mama Celeste pizza for one microwaveable dinner that was simply cut up and placed next to a stack of toothpicks.
Meanwhile, a plate of butter sat on our table, waiting for bread to give meaning to its existence. I asked about the bread and was informed that the bread will arrive later.
No one announced that there was alcoholic respite from the appetizer agony. Fortunately, a Prometheus of the drink showed us the way and I had several silver bullets along with a sampling from the self serve sangria punch bowl that was quite weak.
There was a moment when one of the speeches honoring the happy newlyweds was nearly drowned out by the sound of staff cleaning away glasses and plates.
By the time cake was ready, the hunt for coffee began. Staff did not inform us of the self service nature of the coffee. The coffee was not labeled and could have just as easily been hot water, cold water or some other liquid for pouring.
The actual space was comfortable enough, with about 15 tables split up by a dance floor in the middle. There was plenty of space to bust a move and accumulate further evidence that Gangnam Style has earned a spot in the pantheon of wedding songs. (Right next to the Macarena)
If only the edibles were as enjoyable as the ease of commute and acoustics!
