The sushi tasted dry and stale, honestly it was the worst sushi I have ever had. The hibachi is good but nothing special. The customer service was slow and inattentive. The restaurant was not busy so they had no excuse to be slow serving us. I wouldn’t recommend Shoguns to anyone.

It’s about time that ashland got a sushi/hibachi restaurant. Solid sushi and bento boxes. Definitely worth checking out!

I had dinner here tonight and I’ve been here before as I travel to Ashland every month on business. Tonight was the first time that I’ve been unhappy with the management, not the service though as Justin did everything he could to accommodate my requests. I thought it would be pretty simple to ask for an upgraded roll to be added to my Sushi combo meal. The 7 pieces of sushi comes with a California Roll… which I don’t care much for, whether it be here or anywhere. Cucumbers and I don’t get along. So… I asked if I could pay for an upgrade to the Ashland Roll. No cucumbers in that. Justin asked and was told ‘no substitutions’ by the manager on duty. I pleaded with him to ask again and mention again that I would pay the up charge of $ 5…that’s $ 5 extra in the register… Again…NO… At that point I should have walked out, but I can only eat sushi when I’m out of town… my wife despises it and Shogun is the only game in town. So I settled for what I didn’t want and Shogun made $ 5 less on my tab. Oh well! There is Outback next door for my next trip to Ashland. No more Shogun for me.

Great Sushi, great service, bad customer service… is that even possible? Yes, if the manager of this restaurant is concerned. About ½ way through a pleasant dining experience, one of our servers accidentally spilled my beer, saki & soup, when his serving tray slipped, honestly, I’ve been there, no harm no foul. Everyone was very apologetic, all good… not so fast, when I received my bill, much to my disgust, I was charged for the beer and 2 other items that were included in a combo order. Probably an oversight, I pointed out to server, who apologized again and scurried away to rectify this overcharge. She returned with yet another apology, my manager removed the two items you shouldn’t have been charged for, but she is still charging you for ½ the spilled beer, REALLY. I paid the bill still tipped the servers for their efforts, accidents happen. I wanted to express my distain to the manager, who at first directed me to another employee. After she owned her job, I told her how I felt, still very wet! Anyway she made no attempt to make me feel like a valued customer, so I’m out! Extra credit to server who tried to apologize again, no apology for bad Management and disregard for a customer !

The food was excellent. It was however, disturbing to see the busboy deliver food to the table. Also, the noise from the bus carts was almost unbearable. It would be much better to carry the tray to bus the table rather than push a cart on the bumpy tile floor. Service was very good as well. Could easily be five star with a few minor changes.

I’ve been here twice so far and the prices are very reasonable. The sushi is good(I usually just go after the salmon, so I can’t comment on much of the other rolls that don’t have it), and they were willing to make small alterations to my order when requested. My water glass was always filled, and they were attentive without being obtrusive, which is always awesome. :] The staff is very friendly and courteous!

My family and I enjoy Shogun’s food, but we always get carry out because it is so DARK inside. I said something about the darkness and was told my eyes would adjust after I was in there awhile… no thanks… come on folks get a little more Light on the subject!!!

I had a steak fried rice lunch portion and couldn’t finish it(and I eat a lot). The food was excellent, Josh was an exceptional host! They bring out a salad and a soup before your meal, their salad dressing is made in house.

My wife and I are in town visiting for the long weekend and decided to take our son to Shogun for dinner last night. The waitress was very nice, but inexperienced. I had lived in Japan so I started rattling off the dishes we wanted and she had to ask me to point them out on the menu. I had no problem with that, though. Better that she admitted inexperience than getting the orders wrong. Once we got our food, I was very impressed. My wife had the beef negamaki, and she loved it. She had the seaweed salad as well, and it was quite good. I had never had octopus salad and found it exceptional. Our son had a regular side salad and the Flower roll, which he said was also quite good. I ordered the Chirashi Don. Sashimi scattered over sushi rice. I was amazed at the quality of the fish here in Kentucky. I really expected it to be pretty humble, but it was exceptional. The only thing that was slightly off was the rice. It wasn’t quite perfect consistency for sushi rice. Had a few crunchy spots. It wasn’t a deal breaker by any means, it just needs a bit of work. All in all, Shogun is a superb Japanese restaurant in a place where I never expected to get good sushi or other Japanese dishes.

I visited this place sat afternoon and was very pleased with the whole experience. Service excellent, Ashland roll sushi excellent, steak and shrimp w vegetables and rice excellent. The atmosphere was very nice, decorated really neat. A little pricey but well worth it, I do not mind paying for a great dining experience.
