Stein Mart

I just ran into the worst «bait and switch» false advertising at Stein Mart that I have ever seen. I was looking for a light weight, packable, down jacket. In the store there was a stand with down jackets. The sign on top of the display said «down coats 59.98 compare at 170.00 elsewhere». I tried on 8 jackets of various colors and sizes, checking the sleeve tags on each one I looked at. They had various prices from 89.90 to 120.98 on them. I found one I liked and went to check out. The cashier said «that will be 125.88». I told her what the card on the rack said, and she called a supervisor over and asked for a price check. The supervisor came back and said «This item is not on sale. The display price only refers to the water proof plastic coated jackets. I declined the sale and went back to the rack again. I read the card and it ONLY referred to «down jackets and down vests», there was no mention whatsoever to water proof plastic coated items. I looked at all of the 30+ jackets on the rack (and later the vests on the adjacent rack) and only found ONE seemingly plastic coated jacket. None of the sleeve price tags matched the price on the card on the rack.
This is classic bait and switch. Put up a price which doesn’t actually refer to the all (or more than one) item on the rack, then try to get the customer to pay the higher price at the cash register.
I am infuriated by this tactic and it does affect my opinion of this store. Shame on you, Stein Mart. You tried to cheat me, and I don’t like it.

Seems to cater to older folks. Odd location on Merrimon Ave in North Asheville. Aok shopping and some odd little items. I am ok with it… but again… not my fav store ever

This store… which decades ago… and I mean decades ago, use to be a Roses store (if any of you can remember those stores…).
Today it is a Stein Mart and this little store has just about everything for everybody. From travel luggage to womens clothing to cook ware to tuxes for men… you name it they have it.
Not for the faint of heart, this place will take a while to browse through.
Staff are friendly and helpful and when I have shopped here it has been a good experience.
A bit north of town, a place to check out if you are shopping for something specific and looking for a good price.
