We live out of state and ordered a cake for our dad’s birthday party. It was amazing! I would order again without hesitation!

I ordered a cake from out of town through Carolina Mountain Bakery to be picked up that weekend on my weekend trip to Asheville. Service was friendly and paying over the phone was an easy process. I got his favorite cake, Red Velvet with buttercream frosting – he told me it might have been the best red velvet cake he’s ever had! I must say it was fresh and delicious, we couldn’t stay out of it. The frosting tasted smooth and creamy and the cake had a cute fall theme on it. I would definitely order from them again!

In my opinion the best bakery in the area. REAL key lime pie. Most places use lime or lemon and pass it off as key lime. Since I used to live in the Keys and had a key lime tree, I know what key limes taste like. They also have the best shortbread cookies. HUGE. For a decent price. Most places put too much sugar on their shortbread, but this bakery puts the right amount. And their donuts are just like I remember as a kid. Not too much glaze. Just the right amount. Simply the best. Nuf said.

I adore this bakery! I am not one of those folks who frequent bakeries and pastry shops on a regular basis. The bread in my home comes from the grocery store, and if there are cookies in my pantry, you can bet that they were made by elves who live in trees. But I do love good birthday cakes. Carolina Mtn. Bakery has made my daughter’s birthday cake every year for the past 12 years. There was one year that I strayed(taking a moment to bow my head in shame) and I have learned my lesson. The cakes are delicious and their decorating skills are superb. This years cake was no exception. I gave them the color scheme and let them take it from there. It was beautiful and my daughter was thrilled! It is definitely out if the way from me but worth the drive every time. Maybe I might venture out for a loaf of bread one day!

The selection is somewhat limited from what is available to purchase right at the counter, but all of the cakes and pastries they have are so delicious! You can request to have any sort of cakes for just about any occasion and with a variety of different flavors and combinations. I have purchased 3 birthday cakes and had 2 cheese cakes for special occasions and each time they have not disappointed. I would definitely recommend people to try this place. Plus if you pay with cash you get a free doughnut!

I was recommended this bakery a few years ago. I bought a cake for an employee and that started our tradition of having their pastries once a week. The staff have always been very pleasant and courteous. Great way to start the day. A real gem for south asheville.

This is a small place that is packed with great baked goods – professional-looking cakes, cookies, tempting pastries, and all manner of what you’d call artisan breads, including some large 3-pound loaves. The pastries appear to be buttery and have heavier crusts on them, rather than light, flaky pastries one would find at a French bakery. I like that most of them are delicately sweetened, not sickeningly sweet like some places. Prices aren’t low, but they aren’t exactly high, either. You may spend $ 2.95 on a pastry, which is reasonable. The space inside the store is about the size of a phone booth; standing room only, so this is really a buy-and-go establishment. They offer gourmet coffee in pump thermoses. They’ve got things in here I’ve never seen before– giant shortbread cookies, baker’s bars, etc. The ruggelech is the biggest I’ve ever seen: a buttery crust filled with a sweet raspberry jam. It’s homey and wonderful. I bought about a dozen different items to try, and they were all wonderful. This business is in a strip mall next door to Phở R Us, so eat your Vietnamese soup for lunch first and then come here for dessert. I believe they close at 3 p.m. on Saturdays, and they aren’t open on Sundays. This place has a nice, homey atmosphere, very helpful ladies to wait on you, and some very tasty pastries and breads. And if you’re nice, they’ll give you a free glazed doughnut with your purchase. Can’t wait to go back.
