I bought a hanging plant and within 2 days it was totally dead. Took it back to replace it and the was told they accept no returns. Talked to the manager who was rude and condescending and he said he wouldn’t accept the return as he, unbelievable as this sounds, said I killed the plant. In two days?
He absolutely did not care about losing a customer over $ 35. I filed a disputed for payment with my credit card company and they agreed with me and reversed the charges. Will never go back to this nursery.

I am a contractor in the landscaping business. We deal with over 10 different area establishments and we have seen it all. Bluemount is a great nursery and at the top of our list. We have had 0 issues with sick plants/​shrubs/​trees from Bluemount and we have had 0 issues with any employees. Infact the employees are very kind and knowledgable. Some of the comments I am reading are unfair. Their return policy here is standard. Their selection is great, and the employees are very kind. The place gets slammed on the weekend so finding help may take longer. Best to go during the week if possible.

Great selection of plants, flowers, trees, garden fixtures etc., the only issue is the number of staff — I walked around for a while without seeing anyone who worked there! Only person I saw was at the cash register when I left… I’m new to gardening/​plant care, and could have used some advice before I made a purchase, but instead left without buying a thing.

Blue Mount Nursery is a third class nursery. The people vary tremendously in their ability or desire to help.
Worse, you return a tree, they give you a store credit and say you can only use it on live plants. No problem! But it always turns out to be a big problem. You go to use the store credit on live plants and the lady makes you feel guilty… yet they always honor it. I don’t get it.
Blue Mount? I’m done with you!
I’m going to Merrifield Garden Center instead… now that’s a first class organization!

I came for vegetable plants.
Alas, they mostly just have trees, shrubs and flower plants.
And a pretty large inside section of knick-​knacks that would probably be better if they just made it more space for plants.
There was some very pretty stuff here, but I swear the plants were watching me, planning my demise. «Carnivore,» I heard one whisper as I walked by. I think it was the hibiscus.
Seems like a great place to go for $ 40+ small plants and shrubs or trees that cost hundreds of dollars.
If you’re in to that sort of thing.

I ordered 40 bags of mulch on 3÷31÷15 and opted to have them delivered due to the quantity and weight. I was expecting that the order would be stacked on my driveway… but that is not what I got. The order was shrink wrapped on a pallet on the landscaping truck. The delivery guy dumped the pallet from the middle of the truck onto my driveway, damaging a tree, and shattering the pallet. I guess I’m lucky that only one bag broke open.
I’ll probably order from the Boy Scouts next year.

Do yourself a favor, don’t go here. I bought some items recently and turned out I didn’t need them. So, I decided to return them two days after purchase. Unused, in original unopened package still. Much to my surprise they will offer NO refunds. NONE. They only offer store credit. I made it well known that I was surprised and shocked at such a policy. I have never heard such a thing. Now I know why this policy is not in plain site anywhere, only after you purchase an item and read the back of the receipt will you see it. I advised them them that I will purchase nothing at their store again — ever. So, if you do choose to go there and purchase their overpriced stuff… beware. Don’t be a dummy like I was and assume you can bring something back for a refund. Oh, and get this… as if that were not enough, they do not refund the tax I paid. All I could do at this point was shake my head and advise them that they has some unbeliveable policies.

Wow has this place gone downhill! There is so much junk for sale! It’s become so tacky. I advise making the trek to Merrifield or Garden State. It’s more than worth it.

Sadly it is very overpriced and the quality of plants is low. Try another nursery.

I wish I read C A’s review before I went to Blue Mount. Being sucked in by a variety of plants, bushes, trees and other well overpriced garden items and accessories we dropped well over $ 400 at this place. The tree that we bought, as it turned out later, was diseased and died a couple of weeks after we planted it.(By the way, I do know gardening and it was not the first time that I planted and cared for a tree). We brought the tree back and explained the situation. The manager agreed that the tree had bugs on it for quite some time. You would think that since he technically admitted they sold us a diseased tree they would be willing to do an exchange. No way! They told us that the best they can do for us is to give us 25% credit. Any other place would give you 100% refund! I had to buy a new tree for $ 169. Money hungry and not a customer-​oriented place at all. Stay away.

we had driven by many times but this time, even though it’s the end of the season, we went in and saw what they had on sale (lots of lovely roses!) as well as phlox, mallows, hibiscus, etc. You can also see they have tons of clay pots in all kinds of colors and shapes for growing whatever you like in pots. The store is well stocked with fertilizer and rakes and everything you might usually get at Home Depot. The big difference here is that they know about plants — or seemed to. The guy helped us figure out when to cut back our bushes and trees and even went and looked up something for us when he didn’t know it. That’s the kind of help we need when we buy plants and can’t figure out what and when to prune. They also have a goldfish pond and sell lots of yard decorative items –unusual stuff like stone gryphons, komodo dragons etc. as well as metal furniture. There’s lots of parking but you have to go through a turnstile to get in so I don’t know what a wheelchair user would do to get in…

NEVER AGAIN! We had been renovating our whole backyard. In November 2012, we purchased four 12 foot Cryptomeria trees from Blue Mount. We had the equipment and planted them ourselves. We wanted the look of grown trees so we paid a hefty price… literally!
The following spring the trees started to die back and we called Blue Mount. We were told to cut off part of a branch… seal it in a bag and take it to them. Two workers looked at it and told us that we needed to purchase chemicals that would handle the problem… no mites were present. We pointed out that their own trees on their lot had the same look as ours. We were told not to worry, just continue using the chemicals and spray the trees, according to a schedule. We had already used their Root Master B1 with hormones on them.
Even after following all their specific instructions, the trees are all DEAD. We went back to the store with a picture and spoke with a woman at the counter. We told her that we were in need of purchasing replacement trees and would need help planting them this time since we didn’t have our equipment available. We asked if they would be able to «help us out at all» and she said NO… it was over 6 months since we purchased them. That’s it… CASE CLOSED! It didn’t matter that we had been in there within the 6 month warranty time. Having us spray chemicals on the trees was just to pacify us till the warranty was null.
Really ticked and on the way out towards our truck, we approached another worker by the trees and explained our situation and he said that the lady at the counter was the owner and he was sorry that he couldn’t do anything to help us.
It’s amazing that everything else we have purchased from other nurseries are thriving but we now have four large dead brown eyesores as the focal part of our backyard renovation and Blue Mount wouldn’t even offer us a 5% off a new tree! They truly don’t care about keeping customers. We’ll never go back! BEWARE!

I do lots of gardening and this is my favorite nursery in the county, although I do like several others very much.
Home Depot? They have cashiers but no one on staff with ANY knowledge of plants. Once I bought some mulch and asked for help loading my car. The cashier said she’d «see if» she could get someone from inside the store. That would never happen at any locally owned nurseries. Someone came, eventually.
Bluemount has highly knowledgable staff. While I’m browsing someone usually approaches me with an offer to help. If not, the cashiers gladly call on someone who has the expertise I need.
No nursery in Loudoun has a comparable selection of perennials. I’ve been buying perennials for many years and at one time needed to patronize larger nurseries in Fairfax to find some I was looking for.
Bluemount’s are arranged in two categories of shade and sun perennials, with those in each category arranged alphabetically. This is especially helpful to me as the trees in my yard have matured, making it necessary for me to find plants that can survive in the much enlarged shady areas. At Bluemount I still come across some I’ve not seen before.
Their bagged topsoil is of the highest quality and loaded with organic matter. With planting many perennials in new areas with our solid clay soil I need lots of it!
Luckily I’ve rarely had to deal with pests or diseases. When it happens I know I’ll get the best advice here, which doesn’t necessarily mean purchasing a product from them.
I make a strong effort to only patronize locally owned nurseries. There are good ones in Leesburg and Purcelville but I’m happy to have Bluemount not much further from home. I enjoy visiting all of them.
To the person whose plants died: a possible cause was planting them in holes that weren’t dug large enough, with some of our lovely red clay being replaced with topsoil and organic matter. Inexperienced gardeners aren’t the only people who make this mistake. Regular watering is also necessary until the roots are established.
It seems unlikely that all ten plants would die unless there was another factor than their health at the time of purchase. We haven’t lost any more Bluemount plants than those from other nurseries. Spending the effort and money into plants that die is terribly frustrating to me but it will happen.

I hadn’t been to Bluemont Nursery yet this season but today I needed something their competitors didn’t have (and neither did they btw). I did manage to find something else to purchase and while checking out was again reminded why I don’t like shopping here. The woman who seems to run the checkout station is utterly rude. This wasn’t the first time either.
This time I simply set a small flowering plant on the counter in front of the cashier (crazy notion right) and this lady told me to put it on a cart before I knocked something over. REALLY? No other communication — just move the merchandise you are about to pay for before you knock something over. And this appears to be the person in charge from what i can tell. I responded briefly in-​kind then we left.
Shop here if you must but it will be a long time before I forget again and spend my money in this place.

Terrible customer service!!! Rude employees. I bought a large number of plants (which they were NO help in helping me find, btw), and one was sickly; I got it because it was the last one. It died, and I brought it back with an identical plant bought at the same time, still healthy. Both were still in their original pots. They would not exchange it without a receipt. I pointed out that their price stickers were on the pots. They said it was a «pretty generic price sticker». So, they think I faked their price sticker to get a replacement for a $ 10 plant while I’m standing there with $ 50 more plants on a cart ready to buy. Really? I will never visit this business again.

As a new homeowner and resident of the NOVA, I was completely clueless when it came to fixing up our front yard with various forms of plant life. This is where Blue Mount Nursery comes into play. They have a plethora of trees, shrubs and flowers, almost to the point where it can become a bit overwhelming. Lucky for me and you, they have an excellent on sight staff who are extremely knowledgeable on all things garden and more! Thus far, I’ve dealt with Mark and Bruce. They were both extremely helpful in helping my vision become a reality. They’re patience, knowledge and professionalism are top notch. Yes, this nursery is somewhat expensive but you get what you pay for. The quality of products that this nursery carries and the expertise of their staff members are worth far more than the few extra bucks that you’ll end up paying here. I’d highly suggest this place to anyone!

Blue Mount Nursery is the best! I get all of my flowers from here and this year I got my Christmas Tree from there as well. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, the prices are fair and they always have a great selection. Additionally, this business is family owned and operated which I love. Highly recommended!

Have recently bought a few plants from here, they seem to have a nice selection available. If i am there, I’m most likely with my fiancée who knows what she wants and how to garden. (I’m clueless)
They do have a very good selection of pots. They also seem to frequently run sales on them (most likely just making them normal priced)
I have not had extensive contact with their employees so i cant really rate that aspect of the business.

My husband and I do not garden. That being said, we went here in March looking for full instructions on how to get something pretty to grow so we could do some landscaping around the front of our house. Everyone was super nice and seemingly very knowledgeable. We had no idea what we needed or even wanted so we literally just bought what they suggested for our soil type and the amount of sunlight we got. We spent over $ 200 and got 3 Knockout rose bushes, 5 Coreopsis, grass seed and fertilizer. We followed their instructions to the T.
Everything but the grass is now dead.
Will NOT be back.
