This place is the best!!! The staff was so helpful and so kind. They helped me find the exact ferns I was looking for and provided me with instructions on how to keep it as healthy as possible. So many different varieties of plants, and they offer a potting service so I can’t wait to go back.

As others have mentioned, the price is high. Coming from PA where the same plants cost half as much as Echter’s it can be difficult to get over the sticker shock. With that said, the plant quality is here and unlike some of the cheaper options, these plants will last through the season and thrive once planted in your garden.
I may not come here for all my flower shopping but it definitely serves as one of my stops to ensure my garden is colorful. Some things I feel make Echter’s stand out:

I have been a customer of Echters for too many years, to be treated in the rude fashion that I was today. Echters does not back up their products unless you purchase an additional expensive warranty on their already sky high prices. I bought 11 trees from them last year and paid them to deliver and plant the trees. The cost of deliver and planting is at least as much as the cost of the tree itself. In years past, I had planted the trees myself, but I just didn’t have time last year. So, I paid the crazy price to have them plant them for me, and I thought at least the trees would be guaranteed to thrive. Right? They are professionals who know how to plant trees. One of the trees, a skyrocket oak, had its leaves curl up, turn brown, and fall off the week it was planted by one of their employees. I took pictures of it and went back to Echters to discuss it. I was told that the tree was just in shock, not unusual and that it would come back in the spring. In the spring, the tree did not come back. When I went back to Echters with pictures. I was told that I didn’t purchase a warranty for the tree, so they would not do anything about it. In addition, they were very rude to me. I mentioned that I had purchased more than $ 1,500 worth of trees and plants just last year, and they couldn’t have cared less. I was treated as a nuisance that they wanted to get rid of as soon as possible. I tried to explain to them that I was under the understanding that if I paid their crazy high price for deliver and planting, the tree was guaranteed for at least the first year, as is the case with other nurseries. The store manager was too busy to speak with me, and sent her employee back to tell me that «there are NO exceptions.» On a separate occasion, I bought a «Terra Cotta» yarrow plant from them for $ 16. It had a tag on it with the name of the plant and a picture. However, when the plant bloomed, it was not the terra cotta, but a common yellow yarrow. It bloomed 2 days after I bought it so it was still in the original container. I took it and the receipt back to Echters and explained the plant had the wrong tag and I would like to exchange it for the correct terra cotta colored yarrow, and they refused. The customer service is sooo bad. They really just do not care. What Echters doesn’t seem to realize is that if they are going to have the highest prices in town, they need to back up their products and services. Too bad for them. Not only did they lose me as a customer, but I am a real estate agent and I used to buy $ 100 gift cards from them to give to my clients. Hello Paulino’s, Timberline, O’Toole’s and Home Depot. They will get my business now.

I love this place!!! I always get my flowers from here every summer and love the selection. Staff is very helpful I highly recommend this place for all your gardening needs!

I remember coming to Echter’s as a kid, which is to say that it has been around for EVER! This sprawling nursery is like a temple to the gods of gardening. They have everything you could ever need when it comes to plants. Except weed. They don’t sell weed. Or weeds, for that matter.
I came looking for trees to replace my poor mountain ash which got struck by lightning, infested with bugs, and recently took a hit in the last wet snow storm. Anyhow, needed replacements. I was helped out by Robert, a young fella that was both eager to be of assistance, and quite knowledgeable. I left with a short list of affordable options to mull over.
Great service, competitive prices, clean… All in all, a great operation. It’s the American Furniture Warehouse of gardening. It’s fun to go in there just to look around.

This place is great! Staff is very knowledgable and helpful.
They have a huge variety of plants and flowers. Pretty much anything you can name they have it!
It is a little more expensive than places like Home Depot, but the service and variety are worth it for me!

I’ve heard of Echters but had no idea it was 10 minutes from our house. It’s a huge greenhouse with lots of options. We were a tad lost and had an employee show us where to go and then he stayed with us to help select the right plant for our house. Great customer service.
The grasses we bought were on sale and reasonably priced. The geraniums seemed a little higher priced but really pretty.

I am very disappointed with my visit to Echter’s Nursery today. A manager told me I was stupid and 2 additional employees explained to me why I was (stupid). With this type of treatment, I will not return to this nursery. Over the years Echter’s has supplied me with many trees an shrubs for my home and customers projects. I guess I am stupid for giving my (and my customers) hard earned money to a business that has unprofessional and rude employees.

I have to agree with others about the poor customer service at Echter’s. Just left the store and I find myself once again disappointed with the experience. I try to do business with small locals when possible but after calling to confirm stock on a Weber grill from their patio center, I arrive to find nobody available to help. Finally track someone down after 10 to 15 minutes only to find that their in stock item is the display model on the floor. Despite pointing out scratches on the front of the unit (admittedly minor), they emphatically state that there are no discounts on floor stock unless there is damage. Now, this is certainly their right but I drove 10 to 15 miles out of my way to do business with them (drove past at least 5 or 6 big box stores that all carry Weber). I have no idea whether all the parts are there, I certainly don’t see any manuals or anything with the floor models and then there’s the fact that I’ll have to take the thing half apart to get it in my car and back home (probably adding even more scratches along the way). It’s the end of season and stuff’s on sale all over the store. I can’t believe there’s no room for them to make some minor accommodation or to at least make some sort of effort at… you know… customer service? On the way out of the store another employee asked if I’d found what I was looking for. I explained the situation and just got a shrug and a sorry. This isn’t the first time Echter’s lackluster customer service has let me down but it’s almost certainly the last.

This place has terrible customer service, I went in to find an ordinary house plant for high light. I was the only car in the parking lot and every time I asked someone for help they would point me towards another associate, plus they were way overpriced. I like to shop local but next time I’ll go to Home Depot.

I have to give this place a 5 star. I’ve been in several times not just for gardening materials but for advice… I dont even bother calling because I love it there so much Id rather go in to ask then make a phone call or google search.
There is always someone in every area to answer any question you can come up with. I am an experienced gardener so I always ask advanced gardening questions and they always have to answer.
And they have everything you ever need !!!

I assume that Unilocal will scrub this review because it simply too honest, and Ecthers will whine about it. I am just sick of wasting my time and money with them.
For such an established store they sure have serious problems. I am an avid gardener, and I try to shop small independent stores. I have tried multiple times to use Echter’s, and been disappointing every time. Each time I shop here I am met with appalling customer service. Additionally, I have had multiple purchases of trees and bushes die because they are not the right landscaping purchases to put where I want i.e. they get too much water/​sun etc. But I purchased them based on recommendations of their staff.
This past experience I was looking to get grass seed to over seed my lawn last March. I couldn’t find an employee, so I had to ask the customer service department, and finally someone showed up. This man was clearly annoyed that he had to help someone and was being snarky to me over every question. On two separate occasions he actually rolled his eyes at me. He was clearly so angry he had to work, and refused to go copy some information sheets of grass seed mixtures that i wanted to be able to take home and study. So finally asked him what his problem was, and if his Mother made him get a job that year! I walked away from him to go find a manager only to learn he is an manager! Really?!
I then tried to have the landscaping department come out to do a bid, and they showed up. However they never supplied the bid, and wasted a bunch of my time. It has been over a year, and they still have not returned any of my phone calls. Nice way to do business huh?
I am always shocked when i do a search for gardening centers and Echter’s comes up with such high ratings. This has never been my experience. Truly sad.

I’m an avid veg gardener who steers towards an ample supply of the basics, as well as, landscaping my garden with water-​wise perennials. I’ve visited every garden store in town. (Ok…there are 2 I know of that I haven’t purchased from yet.)
The highlights of this store are:
— its patio furniture collection,
–its gifts for gardeners (everything from decorated cloches, to candles and greeting cards to embroidered towels. You get the picture.)
— its seed selection
— and the special events such as its spring and holiday expos (for seminars and info.)
In these areas its better than 90% of the stores out there.
I find their prices on par with other greenhouses and their customer service a tad below average. The last several years, they have run out of springtime staples — such as plant tags, standard seedling tray covers, standard seedling pots. They seem to have difficulty ordering up proper amounts. So, its good to have a backup greenhouse on your circuit.
In recent years, the selection of their waterwise perennials has picked up, but its still tough from their signs to know which are truly drought tolerant, and which are best for our soil (vs. rock gardens, for example.)
Overall a solid grade B.

My go to gardening store!

Let me justify the 5 star rating: great, informative customer service and high quality plants.
This place is a gardener’s dream. They have almost everything you need to create a great yard or outdoor space. They are a little expensive, but you get what you pay for. Take my experience with both Home Depot’s Salvias and Echter’s: HD’s did not compare. HD’s were sad and dull, while Echter’s were bright and strong… and they had three different types!
The staff has been so helpful in teaching my about drought tolerant landscaping and which plants are best for what areas. I have bought compost, mulch, plants, grass seed, and a kangaroo bag for leaves and I am very satisfied.

Their vegetable selection seems to have gone a bit this year (2013) but perhaps not everything is available just yet since it is the week before Mother’s Day still.
The staff is always outstanding. There is always someone available to answer your questions and even the cashiers are friendly and knowledgeable about the plants you’re getting and gardening in general.
Their herbs are a little pricey so I never buy mine there.
It’s a fabulous place to go to if you’re interested in propagating local plants or xeriscaping, especially in this drought that Colorado is going through.
Don’t forget to sign up for those Echters bucks! it’s kind of like a point system. Also, don’t forget to obtain one by spending $ 20 for to receive each buck. The «bucks» are redeemable in mid season, usually around July which is a perfect time to think about sprucing up old stuff or for fall preparation for your lawn or gardens.

I have to admit– I agree with all the other 4 and 5 stars given on this place.
The only other note is if how to get there– If you are on Kipling. Turn a Block up From where that «Un-​Steakly House is: aka Luke’s — and make the turn, just before. When it stops make either right or left. So a few blocks in in. just check with Google maps and voila. You are there… The very best garden house in all of west side.
That is for sure.
The only question I wanna know is what ever happened to green bucks. I never seem to get them anymore.

My family and I have been coming to Echter’s Garden Center for many years now. Most recently, my mom was looking for pepper plants. She called and managed to snag a few of them before they sold out. The nice employee put them on hold for my mom, and they were still there (as promised) when I came to retrieve them. The employees are nice and friendly. If they don’t know the answer to your question, they’ll find someone else who does. It was difficult to walk out with what I intended to buy, as I saw so much cool stuff that I would have loved to have, such as hibiscus plants, orange (I think) trees, and giant hanging baskets overflowing with petunias. If you like to do any kind of gardening or landscaping, chances are you’ll find something you want/need/can’t live without at Echter’s.
