History

Established in 2003.

As cliché as it may sound Landscaping By Design (LBD) truly rose from the ashes. My family lost our home to a house fire. After the rebuild our funds were exhausted. We still needed a backyard that my children and family could enjoy so it was time to be creative. I researched the possibilities, developed a plan we could afford, and with the help of family and friends built a very functional and aesthetically pleasing patio that we enjoyed for many years. Visitors were so impressed by the patio that they asked me for the name of the company who installed it. I was always very proud to tell them it was built with friends, family, and an idea. I loved that experience so much that when I retired from the aviation industry after 20 years I decided to go back to school for landscaping and stonework. And the rest as they say is history. I simply love helping people with their ideas, creating options, and transforming them into reality.

Business Owner

Gary James is the owner of Landscaping By Design (LBD). He has owned and operated successful service businesses in Maryland for over thirty years. And while Gary does wear a lot of hats for LBD he enjoys working with each client to manage and fulfill their expectations. He personally oversees the key elements of every clients project from contract to completion including material selection, customer satisfaction, quality assurance, scheduling, and crew coordination. In addition to managing the scope of each project he is also responsible for the day-​to-​day operations of the company.
