The Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI) is a 501©(3) non-profit organization that works in countries that are affected by landmines. Even after wars end, the lingering presence of landmines and other explosive remnants of war present an immense challenge to the restoration of normalcy. Sadly, tens of millions of these hidden killers are in over 60 countries around the world. They injure and kill thousands of people annually and inhibit social-economic development.

MLI’s programs include the development, expansion and sustainment of the Mine Detection Dog Partnership Program (MDDPP), which provides Mine Detection Dogs (MDDs) and training to local demining authorities to accelerate the pace of landmine clearance operations; the Survivors’ Assistance program, which helps those those who have been injured by mines; and the Children Against Mines Program (CHAMPS) which promotes global citizenship and links American youth with youth in mine affected countries.

History

Established in 1997.

The Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI) is a 501©(3) non-profit organization that was formed in 1997 to extend the vision of Nobel Peace Laureate George C. Marshall by alleviating human suffering and promoting hope, growth, and stability in war-torn countries. MLI’s primary mission is to eliminate the humanitarian dangers of landmines and help those who have been injured by building local capacity and providing the resources and training needed in post-conflict societies to help restore hope, alleviate suffering, and nurture stability. Our focus is on building practical, affordable, and sustainable indigenous programs.
