I am giving Thaiphoon five star for everything, the service was outstanding, big smile, attentive and knowledgable server, she informed, listened and suggested a meal to my liking … The food came quickly, the place is super clean and the atmosphere modern and trendy . I strongly recommend it to my Friends whom they love the spicy Thai cuisine I will also come back.

The restaurant was nice and clean. The food I ordered was exquisite. The mixture of beef, vegetables, and noodles on my dish was definitely well prepared. The only thing that bothered me, was the waitresses seemed they hated their job. No one was smiling, nor exchanging greetings to customers. And no one seemed to check up on me, while I was eating; my water glass stayed empty even when I checked out. I didn’t bother asking for it, cuz I knew I still had a water bottle in my car. My overall experience: if you don’t care about customer service and only care about good food; then this is your place.

Solidly three stars. Typical blah DC Thai food, perhaps higher priced/smaller portions than some places, but a much better staff than most. I never had to fight to get someone’s attention and they’re always willing to take special requests like leaving an ingredient out or whatever. Rarely crowded, no wifi but you can normally catch one of the other signals in the area. Outdoor seating in the spring/summer, service there is also pretty good.

I came here for dinner after a lot of restaurants were closing. The service was fantastic and I was not disappointed with the meal. Definitely recommend coming here for good Thai food.

THAIPHOONRESTAURANT 1301 S. Joyce Street Arlington, VA22202 Because today was my first time at this restaurant, I thought I would be safe in ordering. Therefore, I ordered the green beans, fried calamari and a combination fried rice. Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines. However, this food was absolutely HORRIBLE!!! The fried rice, which is usually a safe dish was the worst I’ve ever had as I ordered it spicy. It was as bland as bland could be… no spices at all. The green beans turned out to be a clump of batter with the green beans mixed in the clump of batter… terrible tasting. The calamari was disgusting!!! If I could give a negative number as a rating, I would. I will NEVER visit this restaurant again!!!

One of my favorite places to go. Staff is friendly, fast, and focused. I have been coming for a long time now. Since long before the renovations, which were a few years ago. The food is good and very enjoyable. The atmosphere is casual.

Unilocal alway gives me a true indication of a local business… Why do I think to myself«just three stars? This can’t be true?» It is true. Skip on past this place. Average. I expect more from pentagon row but sadly it seems to be in need of a «pick me up».

Ya fooled me with those Zagat stickers. I feel like Thai food in DC is entering the realm of «Chinese» food; I can’t tell what’s going to be a bastardized American thing or the real deal. I’ve had the papaya salad, garden rolls, duck salad, and pad thai. The flavors here are way too sweet and not at all like how Thai food is supposed to be balanced. Thaiphoon is kinda the Thai equivalent of PF Chang’s, which is a’ight depending on the situation. I definitely would not bring my Asian mom here.

One of my favorite Thai restaurants when I crave drunken noodles. I’ve ordered several dishes from here and the drunken noodles with seafood is by far the best dish out of all the Thai restaurants that I’ve been to. Be careful when you order extra spicy b/c it may be too spicy for you. I usually eat spicy and when I asked for extra spicy it was really really spicy. I was not impressed with the mango and sticky rice. But I will be coming back for more drunken noodles.

Came here for pre vday lunch and I definitely won’t be coming back. There are too many better places close by to go to. We started with the fried calamari that was way too fishy for me. I ordered the pad see eaw with beef and the meat tasted old and my dish was way too oily. Both our water cups also had black particles floating around which grossed me out so I ordered a Thai iced tea that also didn’t taste normal. Of course it was so sweet I had to water it down with my dirty water. My boyfriend seemed to like his garlic pepper chicken but he thought there was too much garlic on it.

Among the many Asian restaurants around here, I chose to have Thai tonight, and was not disappointed. We ordered the pad Thai and drunken noodle extra spicy, and boy it came out extra spicy and was tasty. The papaya salad was spicy already and was good with the noodle dishes. We also had their special fried rice, but wasn’t too crazy about it. The lychee lemonade was really good, almost ordered another cuz I had sucked it down so quick. I would definitely come back.

Thaiphoon is most dishonest takeout franchise in the history of Thai restaurants in the DC/VA area. They overpriced their food and charge gratuity upon their takeout order without letting the customer know. The ultimate kick to chin is they leave the tip area blank on the receipt to receive more instructing the customer to tip amount already charged to the takeout order. Thaiphoon will be scratched off my list of restaurants and I will discourage others to find better. You are a despicable business and am sad to have spent my hard earned money upon your establishment!

For my appetizer, I got the crispy calamari which was decent. Has a very fishy taste to it that lingers in your mouth. For my entrée, I got the peppery garlic with chicken. It was pretty good and flavorful. The sauce could have had a little less garlic. Also it came with a good amount of chicken and broccoli. The Thai iced tea tasted different and the color was a darker orange, not the norm.

2.5 Stars. I’ve eaten here numerous times out of craving for thai and convenience. My experience last night is why it’s down to 2. Garden Rolls: All vegetables — cellophane noodles, radish, carrot, mint, cucumber, nice veggie option. There were about 8 pieces from what I remember so it was a good size and served with a peanut laden dipping sauce. Drunken Noodle: I ordered the veggie option with Tofu very very spicy. Props to the chef on spice because I didn’t have to add any, but that is where the positives end. There was a sad amount of tofu and what was in there had clearly been pre-fried and was cold when I bit into it(despite the piping hot noodles). Also, where are my vegetables?! Bell pepper, onion and tomato. That was it. No carrot, no broccoli, no bamboo shoots. I feel like if you’re order the vegetarian option, there should be more veggies. So basically, it as a huge pile of spicy noodles. Good noodles, but I wanted more than just noodles for dinner.

Really hit or miss here. The looks of the place inside are nice, the menu even has a large offering of different dishes that sound delicious. That being said I’ve had some edible food, and some VERY inedible food. Nothing was really as «Thai» as I would have imagined. For some reason I was waiting for the spice to kick in, it never has. I’ve ate at the location countless times and it never satisfies that Thai food craving! Seems to take a very long time for the food to arrive as well so make sure you order a drink or app first so you have something to hold you over!

I get the same thing every time I come. Edamame and the shrimp rolls. Both are wonderfully prepared and light enough so you are not stuffed but enough to fill you up.

There were only a couple of other tables being served when we went in for lunch at Thaiphoon on a weekday afternoon. We were promptly seated. Service was quite attentive since the restaurant was so empty, though right before we left I saw either other waitresses or friends/family of the waiters come in with some Auntie Anne’s pretzels and they just plopped themselves on a table in the corner of the restaurant and started eating it right in the open – thought it was a bit unprofessional to do that in the middle of their own restaurant. But our waitress was friendly. The food was decent. We got the chicken satay which was just okay, but the peanut sauce was amazing. I actually liked the Pad Thai I got, quite delicious and the sauce was flavorful. We also ordered fried rice, though it wasn’t as delicious as the Pad Thai. The rice included scallops that were rubbery. Their lychee lemonade is really yummy!

I like this place. I have been here twice now. From the other reviews it seems their cook may vary so it’s not consistent. So far I have had their Beef Salad, papaya salad, coconut soup, Ka pow, drunken noodles and thai tea. I was pretty impressed with the papaya salad, most thai restaurants I’ve been to in the Area just can’t get it right. I ordered it extra spicy and it was fresh, crisp, sweet salty and very spicy it was about at authentic Bangkok«Som Tum» as u will get around here. The beef salad was ok, pretty good, good flavors, not super authentic but the right combos of flavor to be good anyway. The kapow was good very thaiAmerican but very tasty and enjoyable sweet basil never goes wrong. The drunken noodles were very good, again a great combo of basil sweet, savory. I got mine with tofu and the tofu was cooked well. The thai tea was also good. I would recommend it. Didn’t taste premade or from a can like many places do. Tastes like it was brewed well and lots of sugar as it is supposed to be. All in all its not the best thai but worth stopping if u are in the area and not disappointing in my opinion. I also like that most the employees are thai. Feels more authentic although maybe not equal opportunity employer

Was really looking forward to satisfying my Thai food craving with some take-out. Called in an order for spring rolls, pad Thai with chicken, and red curry duck. I have gotten these items at the DC location and it’s always been great. On this occasion, the pad Thai was such a strange tint of pink and had no flavor. Not the usually nutty and sweet flavor you expect from good pad Thai. Strangely there were what looked like Chinese spare ribs mixed in. The red curry was decent though nothing special and the spring rolls were greasy and only came with three. After this experience, I won’t be going back.

For people who are venturing for food that’s not in Pentagon City Mall, Thaiphoon fits the bill and craving for thai food. My friend and I were depleted from Christmas shopping at Marshalls, and we didn’t like the idea of eating at Pentagon City Mall’s food court because of the crowds. Thaiphoon became immediately appealing because we simply wanted yummy thai food, and we wanted to sit somewhere intimate for lunch. We ordered these fried tofu triangles as appetizers, pad thai and pad see ew as our main entrees. The appetizers were very good, but I don’t know about the pad thai. While everything was served in abundance, my pad thai was not as sweet and savory as I would have liked. I would probably come here again because it’s convenient, and they serve decent food and thai-iced teas!

Food here is decent compared to other thai places I have been to. Located near the harris teeter and ice skating ring this place is a good spot looking for a date or carving some hot spicy thai soup. Last night we ordered some thomkai soup and fried rice Both were tasty. Thay have a great full bar with selection of various liquor even though I am not fan of hard drinks, its always amazing when there is full bar with various selections. Hostess and waiters are always smiling and attentive. I dont know why there are so many bad reviews for this restaurant. What more can they do than bringing their thai food near our hometown? We will continue to visit this place.

The waitress was nice but the service sucked. The food came out before the appetizer and when I asked about it she said that she didn’t get it down. Food was okay. I’ve had better. The only upside is the location being convienent to me.

Overall was a positive experience. Service was good, staff was kind, food was good and prices were reasonable. The reason for the 3 star review is due to the fact the food was generic Thai food, it was well done but nothing special or too authentic. I would certainly return due to ambiance and proximity of my house!

Good traditional Thai restaurant. If I go to a Thai restaurant and they have tasty drunken noodles, they will have a fan in me :) The food was good, they have outdoor seating(perfect for nice days), the service was fast, and our waitress was very accommodating. When my friend’s meal came and she was unhappy with her selection, they graciously swapped it out for something else. Really pleased with my visit.

The then-boyfriend and I came here a lot back when I was in the Pentagon City area in spring 2014. Thaiphoon is serviceable, unremarkable Thai on the whole, with a few exceptions. The golden triangles are really quite good, and the drunken noodles are always good(ask for them extra spicy, and they’ll definitely deliver). The mixed drinks are also excellent, especially the fruity cocktails. I wouldn’t say that Thaiphoon stands out as better-than-average Thai, but it’s not bad by any means, and the usually quick service and bright spots on the menu make this restaurant a strong choice in the Pentagon City area.

I love the environment and the way they put together their food on the plate. It looks neat. However, I find that when we order appetizer and an entrée, it almost come out at the same time which defeats the purpose of an appetizer. But their mixed drinks are wonderful.

I decided to give Thaiphoon another chance on a nice summer evening. Yalley was my server, and she was outstanding! I didn’t have to wait for anything. I tried the Panang Chicken, and loved it! It was spiced just right, was very creamy. Awesome dish. I tried again to order the Ginger ice cream, but was told they didn’t have it, which unfortunately cost them a star because it was on the menu. Other than that, I had a great dinner at a great price! I will be back!

Went here on a random Monday with a friend and everything we had was delicious. I had a cocktail that was basically a spin off a moscow mule(so, so good!) and we split the garden rolls. They were really well done and the sauce(sweet, peanutty) was perfect. The server was great — attentive but not overly so — and the food came out quickly. I ordered the pad see ew with chicken and it was piping hot and super flavorful. The chicken tasted fresh and didn’t have any weird chewy bits(which sometimes happens when you go to a sub-par place). I was really impressed! No room for dessert, but I might have to look at the menu next time I go. They have outdoor seating too which might be nice on a slightly cooler night. If you’re in pentagon city(where, let’s be honest, dining options are slim) Thaiphoon might be your best bet!

What I’d say is inconsistent. I’ve had 5 Star experiences and 2 Star experiences at Thaiphoon. My recommendation is to stick to the more traditional dishes like Pad Thai or Pad See Ew as these are delicious, served hot and exact to dietary specifications. I’ve deviated a couple times to the«specials» menu and been disappointed by the dish either not having enough meat or the flavor just not as expected. The atmosphere is open and has a sports pub feel due to the bar and televisions(always on sporting channels). It’s great for a casual dining spot if you don’t have too many people as the largest table I’ve seen seats 4.

They have indoor seating as well as outdoor. Since it was nice and cool out, I opted for the ample outdoor patio. Waitress came out right away and checked for any needs. Was still waiting for a friend so decided to wait a bit. When the friend arrived, waitress brought out a high chair for the little one. She gave us a few minutes to look through the extensive menu much of which looked really good. Settled on the pad thai and only 10 minutes later we were both served. Pad thai was very good. Slight sweet taste and you could sprinkle on your own desired portion of peanuts. It was not too busy so no need to rush and clear the table. After a leisurely lunch headed back to the pentagon city metro only minutes away. Was back in the city within 15 minutes.
