Fabric Corner

Solid fabric store with nice selection. I bought a lovely cotton velvet in raspberry pink. Owner is helpful and not overly solicitous. Lucky to have in Arlington.

Fabric Corner has such a great selection of fabrics. I put off shopping here for a long time because I incorrectly assumed it would be old fashioned prints that wouldn’t interest me. However, they really have a lot of beautiful and contemporary things. I’m usually looking for knits and other apparel fabrics and I always find something I love.

I love this place. They have a great selection of fabric, and give a discount to Laura’s sewing students. I can never leave without buying some awesome fabric.

The owner is a very nice guy with good attitude, but I wish he was more precise when measuring the fabric. I asked for 2 yard, but he gave me 2 inch less!
Just beware of your measures!

When it comes to furniture, I am not a «do it yourself» kind of guy. I would much rather take the easy path and buy furniture at completion. However, my girlfriend loves to make fun gifts and furniture. Going with her to the furniture could have been a very boring experience for me. I have to say, this was about as painless as it could have been for me. The staff really seems to enjoy what they are doing. My girlfriend has trouble making decisions sometimes, the staff really helped her to pick the right fabrics for what she was trying to accomplish. Additionally, the store is not so big that it is overwhelming. Furthermore, the prices seemed very reasonable for what she got. In the end, we got fabric to make a headboard, upholster an ottoman, make stuffed elephants for kids, and mousepads for friends. Highly recommended for crafty folks looking for fabrics.

A little gem right on the corner of Mass Ave and Mill Brook. Going inside I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised to find a large selection of a variety of fabrics. Everything from basics to prints to the large selection of Batiks was available. The staff was friendly asking about the project I was working on and what I was looking to find. I was easily able to find all I needed and would return again as they work to get new stuff in often!

My new favorite fabric place! Local and independent and finally good service at a fabric store.
I can’t sew but always do projects, so finding a place where my stupid questions are not ridiculed is just awesome. They were so helpful and nice. Good value, lots of options – Nice colors and patterns too!

My top fabrics stores are in LA (B. Black & Sons), San Francisco (Britex), and NYC (Mood). But as you can see/​read I’m in Boston for the moment so those aren’t an option, and I only needed cotton fabric to whip something up.
I stopped in yesterday to grab a few yards of fabric.
At first I was skeptical because I walked in (the only customer in the store) and the woman who was working there totally ignored me for a few mins. before asking if I needed any help. The reason why I’m giving this place 4 stars is because the gentleman that was there is super friendly and helpful and was thrilled that I paid in cash. Lol. He let me know that he appreciated my business and I appreciated that. A lot of the fabric is at 30% off which is always lovely and there is a plethora of colors and prints.

Lots of quilting fabric, and a fair bit of home dec. A decent selection of notions.
I didn’t really see any apparel fabric — unless you like to use quilting/​home dec fabrics for clothes.
Though I didn’t require any assistance while I was there, I did overhear the owner talking to a customer and another sales associate talking to a different customer. They both seemed very friendly and knowledgable and gave A+ service.

Don’t be fooled by the jinky website — this place has terrific fabrics. Adorable modern prints, vintage prints, really great selection overall. I went in with my mother. I’m in my late twenties, she’s in her late fifties, and we both found a ton of fabric that we loved. And the service was great — really nice people, very knowledgeable, honest, and helpful. Sometimes you go into a big craft store and they have a huge selection but the people there don’t know anything about the products. This store has a good selection and the staff clearly knew a ton. Also, the prices were competitive. There was a great sale going on that day. I will definitely be coming back.

I went in looking for a zipper and a zipper foot for my sewing machine. They had both (and a wide variety of zippers, I was pleased to note). I was in a touch of a hurry so I didn’t stop to browse the fabric, but they clearly had a wide variety to choose from. Definitely will be back for that.
But the best part of the experience was undoubtedly the people. So nice! A gentleman helped me out with finding the right foot for my machine, and then while I was checking out, a lady came over to say hi. They were so friendly and casual and sweet! Made me feel right at home.
Price-​wise they seem a bit cheaper than JoAnn’s, which is nice, and they’re located right along my commute, so they’re terribly convenient (which could be a bad thing, considering how much I love to sew). My biggest complaint is that there’s no good place for me to lock up my bike, but hey, that’s not their fault. I would just advise anyone biking there to come with a friend so you can have a bike-​sitter outside while you go in to browse.

Great inventory! Really, some of their cottons are to die for. There’s Alexander Henry as far as the eye can see. I also love the coupons (10% off full priced items almost all the time) and they often have sales of 20−30% off per yard.
–1 star because they don’t really carry any sewing patterns, perhaps they focus much more on quilting. Still, this is a great place to go for killer fabric.

The staff are very helpful here and some of the materials they stock are absolutely gorgeous– always an interesting selection and very inspirational to browse as everything’s so pretty. If you don’t know how to sew you will be inspired to learn, or at least pretend you’re a luxury sweatshop worker while you butcher expensive fabric.

I visited this shop back in June and was pleased to find a great deal of the inventory was my aesthetic.
More often than not local fabric shops cater toward older ladies and their love for small calico prints. I also find the staff of said shops to be less than pleasant to those of us not in our twilight years. This is not one of those shops.
The staff is a delight. The owner is fantastic, it is evident he loves his job!
They have a nice selection of domestic designer quilting fabrics as well as Japanese imported fabrics. They also have a variety of non-​quilting fabrics however, I didn’t really check those out.
I wish I lived closer, I would shop here often. Alas, I am stuck with supporting online shops for now.
The prices are what you would expect for a brick & mortar shop carrying designer fabrics, a bit more than you’d pay online but it’s worth it to support a local shop.

I’m not a seamstress, but I do live with one occasionally. My wife’s mother is currently in town and they have embarked on making pajamas with our two young ones. The store is in the basement under a nail salon (so we suggest going on a Sunday as there’s no smell like the one mentioned in other reviews). The staff was helpful and we found everything we needed with over 50+ kids flannel prints to choose from.

In a perfect world, there would be a fabric store that carried cute, affordable prints, home décor fabrics, had friendly customer service, and a great location. Fabric Corner really tries to be all of these, but falls just a touch short.
The place is lovely for quilters, I have to imagine, as the majority of the stock is yummy «handpainted’ batiks and Amy Butler prints, priced from $ 10 up. The home dec. fabric was lovely, but in the $ 20/​yard range (making that slipcover I had planned into a $ 300 «bargain»…egads!). They do have a small selection of silks, taffetas, fuzzy things, flannel — but nothing amazing. And only if I were buying ¼ yard increments of the cotton prints (as I would as a quilter) could I possibly afford to make anything here.
The real killer, though? The store, which is conveniently located on Mass Ave in Arlington, smells exactly like the inside of a nail salon. My boyfriend was a great sport and came along with me to check it out (and help plan said slipcover), but was dizzy from the fumes in minutes and down for the count for the rest of the afternoon.
Moral of the story: if you’re a quilter with money to burn, and really want a hodge-​podge batik bedspread, come here, blow $ 150, and you’ll be all set. For the rest of us, keep wishing that Fabric Place hadn’t gone out of business, and wait until you get a chance to go to NYC and get real designer discount fabrics.

So I’ve been all around Meford/​Somerville/​Cambridge looking for a good fabric store. In addition to larger chains, I’ve checked out SewLow and Sewfisticated, both of which carry a dizzying array of outdated grandma fabrics.
On the contrary, the Fabric Corner has all new fabrics. And while a good amount of it is not my taste (bright batiks and quilting fabric) the first thing I saw when I walked in was a large selection of Amy Butler. Past that, I noticed that they were starting to stock some really beautiful Marimekko-​like décor weight fabric.
I talked to the owner (who was probably the nicest, happiest person on earth) who said he’s planning on stocking even more modern fabrics and his inventory turns over. In fact, he just ordered a huge lot of Amy Butler’s Nigella line, which he’ll be selling at $ 9.99/yd!
I definitely plan on going back soon!

I was worried that this shop was too small for what I was looking for. I was looking for some material to add straps to my strapless dress. Unfortunately, the dress is an unusual blue green color and it’s hard to find something matching. even Joanne’s fabrics didn’t have anything.
The place actually had a ribbon that was pretty close to the color I was looking for. The people were nice. unfortunately, her recommendation of which ribbon to get was off. not recommended by the tailor down the street.
I’d go again. the place really inspires you to sew quilts. Now if they only had already made quilts… then I could pass it off as my own. Haha.
Oh. be sure to go to the website and print out their 10% off coupon. You should save where you can!

I have to say that this place is my new favourite fabric store… even though admitting that I even think about which fabric store is my favourite kind of makes me feel creepy, like some kind of Suzy Homemaker 1950’s throwback.
My partner and I went in today looking for enough fabric to make curtains for our entire apartment. The store is extremely clean and organised, especially for a fabric store. It has an impressive selection of decorating fabrics, absolutely beautiful prints, silks etc. which are all excellent quality. My partner and I are both *really* picky about fabrics but we were still able to find stuff we both loved for every room in our place.
I cannot overstate how nice the guy was. We had to ask him questions a half-​dozen times before we finally decided on what to get, and every time he was genuinely friendly and really knowledgeable. Yet he wasn’t smothering, he let us browse all we wanted and I never felt pressured or rushed.
We needed the guy’s help calculating, based on the size of our stupidly massive windows, how many panels I would need of each fabric and how many yards we should buy. He did it all in his head (impressive) and seemed happy to help. Also, he knocked the price down a dollar or two on two of the three fabrics we bought. I think he must have been the owner, to be able to do that, and it might have had something to do with the fact that we were buying a few hundred dollars worth of fabric, but it was still really nice. I was also impressed when I overheard the other clerk on duty offer to cut free swatches for a lady who wanted to check to make sure some fabrics matched her furniture.
At one point the guy asked how we learned about the store and when we told him we found out about it on Unilocal,he seemed really pleased (I guess it’s sending a number of new customers his way) and after we chatted with him a while more he offered us a 10% discount (on top of the price reductions he already gave us), which was awesome.
Anyway, in sum: really friendly staff, clean and organised, nice selection, good prices and some room to bargain if you’re buying in volume.
Parking was easy to find, and free. And the store definitely had a ramp leading down into it, so I think it’s accessible, although I don’t remember if there was a step at the door itself. Oh and they take Mastercard, and probably Visa, but not Amex.
