My laptop had some weird power error a few months back and despite trying a ton of things to fix it (updating drivers, editing the registry, etc.), I exhausted my Google expertise and essentially came to the conclusion that the port for the power needed replaced. A little searching on Unilocal and I found this place which was close to me with great reviews.
Quick tip: the business is actually on the backside of the building. It’s not quite in an alleyway but it’s off any of the main streets.
The guy working there was pretty no-​nonsense but that was fine. I told him the symptoms, what I thought the issue was, and he said they would do a diagnostic test, half of which they would collect a deposit for now, and the rest could be applied to the fix. Done.
About a week later I received an email saying that my computer was ready for pickup. Turns out it was a power jack. The same guy demonstrated that the power cord was now powering the laptop so I paid the remainder of the cost and went home with my good-​as-​new laptop. Very happy with the service!

Over the weekend — I decided to replace the RAM on my HP Folio laptop myself.
The instructions on the internet made this appear to be a trivial task (almost as easy as tying your shoe).
Well — removing my laptops keyboard and replacing the RAMS was as easy as promised — too bad that reattaching the cables connecting the keyboard to the motherboard were anything but easy (my hands are just too big).
Luckily Expertise Computers were down the street — in the span of 2 hours — I had an email telling me that my computer was ready to be picked up. For a person that can’t be without a computer — that is record time.
That and the price was great (much less than $ 75 dollars).
I have already recommended this place to my brother.

Phenominal computer skills in a small shop. My computer wouldn’t start up, so I brought it to work to see if my IT could help out. They said that my hard drive was bad and that I had lost everything. Undeterred, I brought it to Expertise Computers. Just four days and a reasonable fee later, my computer was once again functional (with a new hard drive), and all my data was recovered. This place is a life saver!

I took my baby, an expensive Samsung series 9 laptop, that is 4 years old to Microcenter first since I thought they could fix the problem which was a broken pin inside the charger port, but they told me it would take at least 10 days to diagnose the problem and when I told them it was just that which broke two days prior, they insisted I leave it with them and that the motherboard might need to be replaced or that I should buy a new laptop! Instead, my brother recommended I come here and THANK GOODNESS I did because I explained the problem and the gentleman was very courteous and calmly reassured me he could fix it and it would take max 7 days, but he surprised me further by fixing the problem in just 3 days and I got my laptop working perfectly again. He was honest, efficient and a true professional. It only cost me what he quoted, $ 135 and worth every penny, just for the piece of mind. Definitely recommending this place for anyone who has laptop issues! Thanks!!!

Brought my Toshiba in 9 months ago. It would turn on but nothing would appear on the screen. They cleaned it up (lots of dust inside) and ‘reflowed’ it. They gave me the heads up that these types of repairs sometimes don’t last, so i purposely waited to review. Here we are 9 months later and it’s still working like new. They also charged a reasonable price and had it ready in a couple days.

The screen on my mac book bro cracked so I looked these guys up on Unilocal (great reviews) and dropped my laptop aka my life off on Monday. They knew immediately how to fix it and ordered the part. They were very nice in answering my many questions and let me know as soon as there was any progress on my laptop and had it fixed by saturday. (With the 2 snow days i consider that pretty fast) The price was also pretty good in comparison to some of the other side places i was looking at. Overall well done!

I was very happy with the service here. I spilled tea on my laptop keyboard. After waiting several days for it to dry, it still didn’t work. Took it here because it was local and had such good reviews. They diagnosed it as needing a new keyboard. I was charged $ 99 for the diagnosis and $ 65 for the keyboard, and that’s it. Very reasonable. Less than five stars only because they didn’t return my call when I called for a status update, but I was always able to reach them when I called in the afternoon. They were as prompt with the repair as they could be once they received the part. Very courteous and honest. I would definitely come back here if I had other trouble, and I highly recommend them.

Expertise recently replaced the keyboard and mouse pad on my HP Folio laptop. The service was fantastic and they charged me over $ 300 less than what Best Buy charged a friend for the same repair. And I got my lap top back in 3 days. HIGHLY recommended!!!

Diagnosed the problem quickly and correctly — a dead cable between the motherboard and hard drive. No one else got the solution right. The value of that cannot be underestimated in dollars, time, or data saved.
On top of that, service was fair, honest, and reasonable. In an industry of scammers, incompetents, and geek squads, my experience could not have been better.

Excellent service, fixed my broken HP screen in one day. Had an issue with the display, they were able to find the problem perform a cleaning and haven’t had an issue since. Any other issues that I have with my computers I’ll be sure to take it here!

I recently had a computer that died & discovered my backup system failed. Fearing catastrophe, I took my dead iMac to this shop. While they weren’t able to fix it, they were able to diagnose the problem and point me in the direction of a data recovery expert.
In my experience, well intentioned techs will try to work beyond their scope of expertise and magnify the original problem as a result. In this case, Expertise Computers recognized its boundaries and pointed me in the direction of an expert who could fix my problem. My visit was $ 35 well spent.

Expertise replaced the screen on my iPad 4 overnight (drop off Sunday afternoon/​pick up Monday), charging a fraction what it would have cost to go to Apple and get a replacement refurbished one. It works perfectly and looks great — if anything, I like the replacement screen better than the original, as it seem less fingerprint-​prone.
While we were in the shop, my friend remembered he had a broken speaker on his iPHone and had that replaced in just a few minutes. The gus at Expertise are friendly, patient, and great at what they do. The shop also features a range of refurbished laptops, most looking as good as new, at extremely good prices.
If you’re trying to find the place, it’s on the side of the building away from Randolph Street, tucked on one side facing a kids’ playground for the building next door.

This place is a lifesaver. I work from home often, especially when I have round-​the-​clock projects, so I really need my giant, unwieldy laptop. Unfortunately, it abruptly shut off and died last weekend — at first I thought it had overheated, but after reading some information online, it sounded like the motherboard had just given up the ghost. I first tried buying new adapters/​power cords, but when those didn’t work, I brought it down to the guys at Expertise Computers and told them it sounded like the motherboard had died and that I needed it back fast, even if they had to replace it.
They told me they would have to open it up and check inside, and once they did, they called and told me the motherboard had to be replaced and they were ordering the replacement. I asked them to get next-​day shipping so I’d get my computer back faster and they obliged, and the day after they received it they had already put in the new motherboard and called me down to pick it up.
Now it runs actually better than before and as usual, Expertise Computers has come through for me. Before this massive fix, they’ve also removed some really horrible trojans from this computer and a travel notebook with a very quick turnaround. The prices are incredibly reasonable — $ 99 for labor to replace the motherboard! I honestly would have paid more especially given how fast they worked at it, and given the fact that without them I probably would’ve just had to go and buy a new computer altogether rather than deal with the hassle of sending it to Dell (which would’ve been way more expensive) or to Geek Squad or somewhere else that would probably be incompetent and leave me worse off than I started.
I completely trust this company, and they have always been very reliable without any of the frustrations of dealing with much bigger companies. They know what they’re doing, I know one of the guys there has a degree in Computer Engineering, and I always feel like my computer’s in good hands and that if anyone could save it, it’ll be them. I used to be terrified of any computer problems but I have to say, knowing I have these guys in my building makes me feel a lot better — still hate having computer issues, but it gives me great peace of mind having this place to rely on and trust. Echoing past reviews, Expertise Computers is a no-​frills, fast, reliable and fair place to get your computer fixed. I brought both my laptop and desktop in at the same time on a Saturday afternoon, and by Monday they had finished what needed to be done/​could be done-​unfortunately my desktop was beyond repair :(. The gentlemen working there are friendly and helpful, they helped me carry my desktop to and from my car when I was picking it up/​dropping it off, even completely closing the store for a few minutes on one occasion when there was only one of them there. I’ll be back!
PS its a little tricky to locate, and parking is not easy. The store is on the ground floor of a tall apt building on the southern side of the T-​intersection of Stafford and Ninth. It’s tucked in a little, beyond a café, on the left hand side.

Our desktop PC died and the national chain wanted 800‑1000 for data recovery. We took it to Expertise and they did the job for 90, including the cost of the DVD they saved everything on. Give Expertise a shot. No hassle, highly competent, fast, and inexpensive. We’ll be back with any other computer needs.

I live a few blocks away so this place is really convenient. My laptop’s power jack was broken, so I stopped by and they said they would order the part. A couple of days later, they called me to let me know the part had arrived. I brought the laptop by and they fixed it the same day! They would have fixed it while I waited but I had to be somewhere and couldn’t wait. Great, efficient service.

Fast, easy, and reliable. My HP notebook computer just died one day and wouldn’t power up. I called HP, and they wanted me to pay $ 199 for repairs before even sending it to the company. I checked Unilocal,found this shop in Ballston, read the good reviews, and brought in the computer. They said diagnostics would be about $ 45, then they would call me before doing any other repairs.
The result: they called me within a day and said it was fixed. All they did was open up the computer and check all the cable connections, and it started right up. They didn’t even find anything loose, but touching them must have put one loose one back in place.
Now they could have told me there was some part that needed replacing, or some elaborate high-​priced service that needed to be done. But no, they told me exactly what happened, and they charged me only for the diagnostics they told me about.
No surprises, quick and easy, a very honest business. Thanks, guys!

Virus removal was less than half of any other place I called. They took a day longer than promised to fix it but I was stoked about the price and the fact that they were able to save my computer from what is (according to my internet research) the worst virus you can get on your computer.

I Unilocaled this place when my screen crapped out on me. Everything looks great but it took them a week to call me back about it being done after they had told me it would only be about 3 days — long enough to make me worried. Upon picking it up my total was $ 199 when I remember them saying it would probably be around $ 150. I had also asked them to check out the rest of my laptop for any other issues but they didn’t.
Probably all things I could deal with but parking to get here is SUCH a pain that I would go somewhere different next time.
