Martin Main Line Honda

We had talked of exact price with the only exclusion being taxes and tags. When I went there the price quoted was 1000 $ more than what we had confirmed in writing. Also tags were 300 $ more than what DMV charges. Also I was told that white and blue color are in stock (the only colors I was looking for) but on reaching there they had only black and silver.
I’d like to add the experience was still better than other dealers. The prices were quoted right away without any roundabout tricks. Nor did they waste my time.

Their prices on certified pre-​owned vehicles are reasonable and they do try to work with you unlike other Honda dealerships we’ve been to. However, we purchased the vehicle a month ago and still dealing with paperwork issues. Honestly, not sure where it went wrong — whether it was the fault of the sales rep or the other departments producing the paperwork. First, after a week of having the car in our possession, the sales rep texts wanting to verify the VIN. I find out that they had the wrong VIN and I’m forced to make the 45 minute drive to re-​sign all the paperwork. And then, we receive the registration card and the name is spelled incorrectly — 3 phone calls later, I find out they need to send the correction to Harrisburg and I won’t receive a new card for 2 weeks. Moral of the story is that if you decide to purchase here make sure you triple check all the paperwork with a few set of eyes. If you have to come back to re-​sign paperwork, make sure they offer you a tank of gas and carwash for the inconvenience.

I’ve bought a number of cars here, and I’ve had a pleasant experience each time. While the finance and business manager people can be a bit much, the sales, service, lot attendant and front desk teams are all really nice.
I’d highly recommend Dave Tierney — a good guy, no bs, easy to work with. I mentioned to him that i was looking to get out of the dealership quickly because I was getting hungry — he offered me part of his lunch (that he was still waiting to eat). It’s a small detail but an important one.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I feel it necessary in this circumstance. I bought my very first car back in September from Martin Main Line Honda. I went into the situation prepared with what I want and price range, expecting to be hassled, but that totally wasn’t the case. My experience buying my Honda Fit was a great one and I love my car.
About a month later, I notice that my passenger side mirror is floppy and just sort of hanging off the side. Other than just being unaligned, there was no breakage or dents or marks. It was the weirdest thing. I brought it into the dealership to have them look at it and they said it was going to have to replaced and that it was going to be close to $ 700 between parts and labor, and that it’s not covered by the warranty. Naturally, I was very upset at the circumstance.
I called Mitch, the associate who sold me my car to explain the situation to him, and within the day I got a call back from the dealership stating that the parts and labor were going to be free due to the oddness of the damage and the fact that it was a brand new car. This was definitely beyond anything I would expect from a dealership! I truly appreciated the effort and responsiveness. I brought my car in and it was fixed within hours.
I told all my friends just how awesome this was and to go there for car purchases. It’s nice to see that there are good people out there. I’m now completely sold on my Honda experience, I will continue to go there for maintenance and for all future car purchases. My Mom and all her friends have also bought their cars (mostly from Mitch) as well.
Thank you so much, you’ve all truly changed my opinion of car dealerships.

Originally I was going to give Martin Main Line Honda a 5-​star review because they were saving me money, were friendly, greeted me, and got me in and out quickly. But, upon further reflection, I downgraded to 3-​stars. Here’s why:
I brought my car in with the following service lights on: B12. This, per the manual, means that I needed to have my oil change, tires rotated and balanced and Air/​HEPA filters replaced. Reading the recommended service conditions handout that Stephen gave me (their own material), I should have all of these services done because I have surpassed the 20,000 mile mark. When I told Stephen that these lights were on my car, he shrugged them off and told me that the guys would be checking everything… if I needed it, then they’d do it; if I didn’t need it, then they wouldn’t. Well, to prolong the wear of my tires, I should have it … and I should have the filters changed, too. Because the next time it’s recommended they be done is 50,000 miles. So, if we skip it this time, it’ll be a really long time …
Personally, I’d rather stick to the schedule Honda recommends. I don’t want the company to save me money in the short-​term if it means more money in the long-​term (i.e., have to get tires sooner than I would have had to if properly took care of them). I knew I needed to have the services done, told you I needed them done, and then just wound up with an oil change. I don’t get it. Then in my service book it says «I» just asked for Service A. But, I didn’t. Again, with the filters, I just want to stay on schedule so I can easily keep track of what was done when.
Now, I have to go BACK to the dealership and have these things done so I stay on schedule. It’s really sort of annoying. What was the point of ignoring what the car lights said needed to be done/​recommended services at the mileage my car was at? I know I need a 30,000 mile service maintenance in 5,000 miles — but tires and filters aren’t a part of that maintenance plan either??? Makes no sense to me why we’d skip these … so now I question if they’re looking out for the best interest of my car.

I went in on a Saturday with a family friend looking at certified pre-​owned Honda Accords, as Martin’s website showed a lot of vehicles in the price and mileage range we wanted. Our salesman showed us around the lot and then left us to browse. He came back out a few minutes later to check on us (which I didn’t not think was bad initially) and then asked if we wanted to test drive any particular car. We chose one of the lower priced «specials». While it was a certified vehicle, the interior had significant damage around the gear shift and seat heater buttons (one button had no cover on it and it appeared there were burns on the trim around the cigarette lighter and ash tray). When I pointed them out, the salesman said they could «touch those up» (instead of replacing the pieces).
Martin was our first stop, and we were going to look at vehicles at other dealerships before making a decision. However, our salesman and the sales manager put the full court press on us trying to get us to buy immediately. Every time we hesitated, our salesman would go back to the office and would return with an even lower price that was only good if we signed then and there (if we came back later in the day, the price would be $ 500 higher). When we got up to leave, the sales manager came out, offering a maintenance package for two years (which would end up being a couple of oil changes and maybe wiper blades) if we bought. Both indicated we were crazy if we did not take this deal. In the end, we left and found much better service (and better condition cars) for not much more money at other local Honda dealers and at CarMax.
The salesman at another Philadelphia-​area Honda dealer I bought my own vehicles from had warned me about «old school» sales tactics at other dealers, and I think I found one such dealer in Martin. If you can’t hold your own under pressure, go with a friend/​relative who can or stay clear.

Customer service above and beyond!
When my family was recently in the Ardmore area visiting we had need to purchase a car as a gift under very tight time and financial constraints. We found a vehicle we were interested in online over the weekend and called first thing Monday morning to confirm it was there to test drive. Unfortunately it was off the lot to have minor body work done. They drove us out to the repair lot, we did a test drive, and decided we did want the car. All the paperwork and financing was done by noon, so we could catch our plane.
There were some challenges with out-​of-​state registration. Martin Main Line Honda could have made it much more difficult than it was. Their communication around it was excellent. When sending us necessary paperwork the forms were mailed overnight delivery as well as a refund check for overpayments that they could have sat on for weeks, or argued the amounts, but they were handled immediately.
If we need to buy another used car in the Ardmore area, we will definitely be going to Martin first.

I really like how no one acknowledges you when you enter the service area. Additionally, they like to quote you one price and charge you another which requires you to call their bluff. Lastly, they tell you your car will be waiting and then you still need to chase someone down to get your car.

We just purchased a Honda Fit. Very pleased with this dealership. Nice people no pressure. We felt very comfortable here and working with our salesman Gary K was enjoyable and we really like him. He got us a good price and was very helpful explaining the options. I can highly recommended Gary and this dealership.

Purchased a Honda Fit there and everything was smooth as silk. Martin Honda has treated me great with the service. Patrick Dowdall was great in helping me with the whole process. Great company.

My 2004 Honda CRV stalled out on Lincoln Drive thankfully restarted and i took it took it to Martin that morning… after i got the car back the check engine light came on again… brought it back the following Monday morning… The building also lost power that morning so the shop was running on backup power supply. Mark took my car in right away and fixed the 2^nd problem on it right away… I was very thankful they took my car in right away those two times… and had the shuttle to take me to work… that’s a huge lifesaver. Im not a fan of dealerships but when they take your car with no power in their building and fix it before 10am– im a fan.

Very rude and pushy staff. I work in sales so I understand persistence but certain staff members are just obnoxious and nasty people. The sales rep I dealt with appeared to be inexperienced. The finance man was trying to insult me into buying the car. I’m not sure what was wrong with him but buying a new car should be fun. I will not be buying a car from this place and I encourage others to avoid this place too.
The only nice person was the receptionist.

I recently purchased a new car from this dealership. I was dreading the thought of purchasing a car. The experience I had here was refreshing. My salesperson Ali was very courteous and did not pressure me into a deal. They beat the price I had from another dealer. Ali even took time after the sale to review my car’s options. That has never happened to me before! I would definitely recommend this place and Ali.

Would highly recommend! We went to another dealer in South Philly, but we received a much better deal within minutes of walking into the dealership. They gave us one, rock-​bottom price as soon as they knew we were serious. We paid at least $ 3,000−4,000 less than the other dealer. They never tried to sell us extra stuff we didn’t need. Great service. This is an admirable way to run a business.

Purchased my car here almost five years ago. I bring it back for maintenance (oil changes, inspections, etc.) the inspection is free when you purchase your car here.
My biggest complaint is the never ending list of «recommended services» This trip it was almost $ 900 of cautions recommendations. I just had everything tuned up last year, why would this be a caution again? Not to mention the ‘world class’ inspection– my tire pressure was low, why didn’t you fill it up? Talk about world class. And at least look at my car before failing/​cautioning any services performed in the year past.

I love the fast service and the honesty provided to me regarding the condition of my car from the service tech. The snacks are also a great bonus.
I have been coming here for 8 years and Rudy Davis along with Ms. Diane have made my experience a pleasurable one every time!

Great car buying experience!!!
Recently bought a Nissan and the finishing dragged on forever. Saw Mike Murnane at MainLine Honda because I was interested in a new Pilot. My wife had an’04 Pilot that has always been a fantastic car. 10 years old and it never did not start. Explained to Mike I knew what I wanted to pay and I wanted in and out in a hurry. He promised one hour and he delivered on time. I was stunned because most of us do not get what we want when we walk into a car dealership. No back and forth hogwash talking with my manager. Mike got close enough to my price immediately so we inked a deal fast as I had hoped. The finance guy did the same, asked what I wanted and got me out in a hurry. My wife is happy with her new Pilot and I was happy to have a positive new car experience for once.

As an update to my 4 star review, I just want to say that it seems this place is very hit or very miss. I had a very miss experience today. I was treated with the worst customer service I have ever experienced in recent years. As a repeat customer, I came to find out what the current value of my car was… to which I was told, visit Kelly Blue Book. KBB does not buy cars, they cannot give me the value you will pay me for my car. I responded by asking if he could help me find the value of my car. His response was «if you aren’t buying from me, it doesn’t make sense.»
YES IT DOES! I’m a FREAKING CUSTOMER! I had just left CarMax and received the most pain free experience! They gave me a quote on my car and while I waited I even found 2 cars I was interested in… they printed out the info for each car and when I left I had all the information I needed to sell and even buy a car from them on my next visit if I chose to do so.
Martin Mainline, I bought my car from you, serviced my car with you and brought that same car BACK to you to be sold or traded in for my next car and you blew me off and made me feel like all I was was someone’s walking commission check. CarMax here I come!

I finally feel like I can relax now that I found a used vehicle. In my «Quest» to find one I was hesitant to go to a dealer because they are obviously more expensive but thought at least I’ll get a quality car.
I actually felt like the used car dealers on Kensington Avenue and in the «cash only» dealers there were more honest than these crooks.
I was looking at a used Honda Pilot that sounded too good to be true (about $ 3,000 less than Kelly Blue Book) but needed minor body work/​paint. I thought the work that needed to be done was why the price was dropped on the vehicle. I asked why the price dropped and I was told «sometimes we just do that to get traffic in the door». I didn’t believe that but OK… whatever.
I picked up the vehicle to take it to a mechanic for a pre-​purchase inspection I had found out in Hatboro PA which is approx. 15 – 20 minutes away. It was «highway» driving (turnpike) and the vehicle seemed OK, on the way back to Honda with a check in my hand to buy it, the vehicle started driving differently with the stop and go starting. By the time I got to Lancaster Avenue I decided this was going to be a problem and then the car broke down approximately a mile away.
The transmission had metal shavings inside and was shot.
I know all used car salesmen are slime but to try and pass this off, then say it was only a minor problem was BS. I played dumb while they ran around going to the enclosed «bullpen» to plan out what story they were going to try and sell me to make me believe that this was an honest mistake. After conferring with a few friends that are mechanics they said they most likely flushed and re-​filled it and that is why it was fine for a short distance and being on the turnpike in gear, not shifting.

Thanks for your «form» letter response but there isn’t anything further to address. I was lucky enough to have the vehicle break down on me and NOT purchase it and I believe you have removed it from your inventory (which it should have never been there in the first place). This was just a heads-​up to other consumers of how you conduct business.

Liar, liar!
The short version: they lied about changing the oil, when they didn’t. I checked the oil shortly after I got my car back, and it was black as my morning coffee.
The long version: I took my daughter’s Honda Accord into the dealership’s service department to ask if I could get a quick oil change. Since they claimed that they could do it in an hour, I agreed to let them do it. Three hours later, I finally get called to the service desk to be told that the oil change was going to be free of charge because of the long wait. After I get home, I check the oil and find that it is still dirty and had not been changed at all! I confront them about this the next day, and they apologize and do finally change the oil, but as far as I’m concerned their credibility is shot.
Conclusion: Avoid this dealership’s service department if at all possible.
UPDATE:
So, it appears that the folks at Mainline Honda were getting a little touchy about a photo (an image of Jim Carey with «Liar, Liar» caption on it) I posted to complement/​underscore my recounting of the lie they perpetrated on me the last time I had a car serviced there: that they claimed to have changed the oil on my car when they clearly had NOT (a fact I confirmed simply by checking the oil dip stick). They had Unilocal remove it. Instead, they have added various marketing photos, among them a picture of a stork with the motto: «Martin delivers.» Deliver what, I ask? Lies?
SECOND UPDATE:
Greg Brennan of Mainline Honda has now posted a comment (below) to this review, hoping to make amends. I have already noted above that they made apologized, BUT they did not take the time and the effort to correctly and thoroughly address the fundamental and CRUCIAL breach of trust between a business and its customer right then and there. When I asked to speak to the senior manager, I was told that he was not available. Even if that were true, Mr. Brennan should have called me back as soon as possible to discuss and address this problem. I was so shaken and disillusioned that I sold my Honda in order to avoid having to deal with this kind of behavior any more. I’ve since bought a Lexus in hopes that dealerships selling more expensive cars would be inclined to treat their clientele with more respect and integrity.
