Simply Macintosh

I called on Saturday to see about having my RAM upgraded, and was told they could do it in less than a half an hour and assured me they had the correct parts after running my laptop’s serial number. After searching for 45 minutes for parking because of farmer’s market, I was able to secure a spot and make it in. I did all the paperwork, they got to work, and then a few minutes later was told there was some confusion with the inventory and didn’t actually have the correct part. The men helping me were apologetic and told me there would possibly be a shipment in on Monday and to call and see if the part had come in before making the trek down again.
So, today I called and spoke to a woman on the phone and explained what I needed and what had happened on Saturday. She assured me that she had the correct parts. Awesome. So I dropped my kiddos off with a sitter and headed right over, just to be told AGAIN that they didn’t have the correct part. Now, I wouldn’t have been so bothered by the situation, had the girl who had helped me on the phone tried to apologize for the misunderstanding and wasting my time, but instead she tried to explain to me that it was my fault and that I asked for the wrong part. If she had listened to me on the phone, she would have known the parts she pulled were incorrect. told her on the phone that I was running two 4GB slots and that I wanted to be running two 8GB slots, a total of 16GB. She pulled two 4GB cards, which is what I’m already running.
Then, the guy rang me up, and it was cheaper than quoted. I believe in honesty so I explained to him that the price was almost 15 dollars cheaper than I was quoted. After further investigation, the reason it was cheaper was because I was being rang up for the same RAM that was installed on my computer already. The gentleman was polite, but I feel for what I was going to spend, I should have received good customer service from ALL involved, not just one employee. So, to the T-​Swift wannabe with curly hair, you need to learn how to work in retail and give good customer service, or go get a job where you don’t have to work with the public. YOUR PAYCHECK IS PAID BY US CUSTOMERS, and after seeing your annoyed attitude with not only me, but TWO other customers who came in, I no longer want to support your store-​and you. To Chris and the gentleman with the short brown hair and glasses who helped me on Saturday, thanks for giving me good customer service. Too bad the service today negated your hard work.

Would be 5 stars but for the seemingly apathetic staff up front. The guys in the back are all smiles and nice but the up front crew seems to be grumpy and can’t wait for their next break so the can burn one and be happy again. Excellent work, pretty decent knowledge and prices are what they are. It’s Apple.

Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Their service is a little expensive and a little slow, but hey, they’re working on Macintoshes, they’re a small shop, and they’re the only show in town. All in all, I’m definitely glad they’re there.

Great mac tech store for being behind the humboldt curtain! very friendly and easy to get help all techs are Apple certified IT’s! support and update help only 25 $ to upgrade to yosemite OS X and tutorials are more than helpful and awesome! NO snobby slow inattentive techie jerks you can find at the busy Apple stores for sure give these guys a try if ur needing mac or apple anything go here humboldt county!

Worst customer service I have ever had. Do not purchase anything from this store!!! I work for a doctor who purchased a very expensive lap top from these people. I called the store a day ahead of our purchase because we live two hours from them. They assured me that they had the lap top and would do a data transfer for us. My doctor drove down the very next day to get the laptop and they said they would have the data transfer done in two-​three hours. 6 hours later it was still not completed. They sent him home without the laptop and told him they would ship it to him the following week. 4 days later we get a BILL for 150 dollars for an optical drive they charged us for twice plus they had the audacity to charge shipping!!! When we called to contest the shipping bill explaining that we drove 4 hours round trip for this very expensive computer and they sent us home empty handed after they failed to do a simple data transfer even though they said they would, the manager told us that she personally did not guarantee the transfer would be done so therefore we had to pay shipping. Worst shopping experience. We will never do business with this company again.

Was afraid to go anywhere but the Genius Bar, but a four hour drive to Santa Rosa was even less appealing… These people are terrific. Fixed my issue, and no charge… whaaaat??? Good old fashioned customer service.

If I could give Simply Macintosh 0 stars, I would. I am not one to overly complain about bad situations (I know many claim to be like that, but it’s the truth) but after two repairs and almost a third, I need to complain.
I bought my Macbook Pro from Simply Macintosh in 2012 and all was well for nearly 6 months. All of a sudden my computer often wouldn’t turn on at all and if it did the fan would roar loudly and the lagging would drive me insane. I took it in for repairs (I have Applecare) and a couple of days later I got a phone call that my computer was ready to be picked up. They told me that the motherboard failed, the hard drive failed, I needed a new clamshell, and my touchpad wasn’t registering movement. Again, all was well for only a short period of time.
This past December the same problems started happening… again. I quickly went to Simply Macintosh for help and they told me that they couldn’t help me without charging me money for help and that I «should utilize the Applecare that I paid money for.» After calling Applecare technicians and getting what I needed to force Simply Macintosh to help me. They took my computer and told me that, again, my hard drive had failed and they replaced it.
Two months later, today, my hard drive failed. Do yourself a favor, go anywhere else but Simply Macintosh. The technicians/​sales people thrive on giving customers the runaround and provide shoddy products, at best.

I have purchased two MacBook Pros here, as well as attempted to use their service department. They refused to honor the Apple Care warranty I purchased with my MacBook, stating Apple Care does not cover accidental damage. That is a blatant falsehood. John told me I would have to leave my computer for five days before someone could look at it, and that it would cost between $ 300 – 500 to replace the clamshell (I had a crack in my screen). I talked to Apple, and they sent me a box. I mailed it in, and got it back in four days, no charge.
I have found only one person working at Simply Macintosh to be polite — the rest are disdainful. Perhaps it is because my husband and I are older, not students. Whatever — from now on we’ll go back to doing our business online.

Was told they would clean my laptop for free over the phone. Went into store a week later, they said they didn’t know what I was talking about and labor is $ 95 an hour plus parts. Could not give me cleaning price estimate. When they told me they would not do it for free, I asked how much. The owner (I am guessing) instead of just giving me a price, first made excuses that he had to charge so much to keep his business open. A business that has been on the plaza (prime real estate) for over 10 years that works on the most expensive brand of computers, in a college town, with the highest sales tax in the county, forgive me, but lets be real, you are not struggling to stay afloat. Employees looked embarrassed or like they had all just gotten yelled at before I walked in. I read the bad reviews, and after the phone conversation I first had with them decided they didn’t seem so bad, and I would give them my business, however visiting the store, I will head the advice from other reviewers and take my business elsewhere. I will not give these guys a dime. Sorry.

I am new to town, read the negative reviews online but thought: why give them a shot.
I brought in my Mac book pro would not start up this morning after a spill on the keyboard. The were snooty, relatively unhelpful. The holier than thou attitude by one girl working the front while the other one was working with a flu or a horrible cold. They said they required a $ 50 deposit to have a technician look at my computer in 5 – 7 business days. I asked if I could make the $ 50 deposit and keep my place in line. I was told that was not possible and not how things work. She seemed annoyed that she even had to speak with me.
So I took my labtop and left. I won’t be back. The reviews were right: The help is snooty, unfriendly and utterly unhelpful.

Thank goodness for Jim at Simply Macintosh! After downloading the latest OSX update on my laptop… no visibility. Dark screen!
Jim zeroed right in and located a file on the Maverick update… got ride of it and I was back in the groove. Great service! Thank you Jim.

I’m terminating my long and profitable (for them!) relationship with Simply Mac. Staff sold me the wrong accessory for my phone, even after I pointed out three times «it says 5s, are you sure I can use it with my 5c?» and I was laughed out the door. So they sold me the wrong thing, and my phone screen and $ 40 tempered glass screen protector immediately broke. The owner, Simian, finally grudgingly agreed to do a little less than the bare minimum to make things right. After failing to fob me off on the manufacturer, he eventually agreed to compensate for the damage to the phone, but not the screen protector. His explanation was that I had not purchased the screen protector there, which is weird to me because I did not buy the phone there either, and it doesn’t matter where I purchase my stuff, if you break it, you fix it. I explained to Simian that I did not understand his logic nor agree with it, but he stonewalled me good. The conversation was over. I was dismissed. I still feel uneasy and mistreated. Simian, you are penny wise, my man. You dug in your heels to save yourself $ 40, when you could have retained a loyal, longterm customer. A loyal, CLUMSY longterm customer with a long, embarrassing history of doing LOTS of klutzy damage to expensive devices in shockingly dumb ways, and paying SM gobs of money to fix them. I’m definitely the kind of customer you want to keep. I was your bread and butter, man, I was paying your mortgage! Penny wise. Pounds foolish. How do you like them apples?

I’ve had two poor experiences with Simply Macintosh. After upgrading a MacBook to Snow Leopard we started having problems and they blamed it on a battery going bad. I had already swapped batteries to eliminate that. Ended up needing a fresh install as the update corrupted something. Then I wanted to buy an iPad Mini. They had two in stock but no demonstrator and they wouldn’t open one up so I could see it. If I wanted to buy it blind I could have bought it online and saved the trip to Arcata.

Too bad the attitude of the (employees/​owners??) store is so poor. There seems to be a great need for the services they should be providing. I will go online to make future purchases after my experiences here.

I have yet to use the services for this place, but I know the nice, friendly staff and I would recommend them to anyone!

Simply wonderful! Simone and Marsha are great people with lots of working knowledge. When they don’t have parts or computers (iPads in particular) its usually because they are not available due to limited stocks coming from Apple. Pricey but done right. Capital Business Machine pales in comparison. Much better customer service and techs here. I bought my last 2 computers here as well as my printer and wi-​fi setup.

My husband and I were in town to visit our college student daughter and her Apple laptop didn’t survive the large glass of water that got dumped on it. So, in an emergency situation, we hit up the store downtown and were treated so well. The owner and his staff took great care of us in a timely fashion. Yes, we had to buy a new computer but they handled all the details and helped my daughter with some «protection» issues. It’s never fun, or a good time, when you have to make an unexpected expensive purchase like that, but we felt we were well taken care and would recommend them. We were also glad to see many others in the store and all of them were being well served and seemed happy.

Generally unfriendly, poor customer service. Which honestly, I could deal with but they’ve never had the part I’ve needed in stock so what is the point of using them, I don’t know.

Where to begin? Under warranty I dropped a Mac off for a simple hard drive exchange. Brought the Mac back and sure enough they hadn’t done anything. Took it back and now all the sudden it needed a logic board and a hard drive. Since that outing I’ve always gone to Capital Business Machines. But last week I thought I’d give them a try again as the power adaptor was in need of replacing. It was under warranty and I figured it wouldn’t actually mean much work for them. Wrong, they looked at it, laughed and said they wouldn’t replace it. Thankfully a couple phone calls to Apple did replace it. I would give negative stars for the condescending tone if Unilocal allowed for it.

The service was great. Very attentive. I was helped promptly and my problem was solved.
The negative reviews are wrong. Don’t heed them. Seriously!
