Arcata Tuxedo Rental

We rented 6 tuxes for our wedding the first weekend in May. We gave them plenty of notice for our request. 4 of the 6 tuxes were missing cuff links, one shirt was dirty and had broken buttons on the sleeves. 2 of the pants had patches on the kness. The Grooms pants ripped in two different places! Normal moving around for pictures, sitting, standing etc. Some of the pants were also dirty on the legs. Upon returning the tuxes when asked how everything was, we told the girl at the counter, who was very helpful in the past about our experience. She was in disbelief and said well didn’t they try on the tuxes before they picked them up, yes indeed they had, in the tiny dark excuse for a fitting room. They didn’t think they had to inspect them up and down to look for patches or dirty spots. We even left a note with the tux that had the shirt with broekn buttons (his wife had to go get him a different shirt from home) we were told the owner would be in the following day and would call us to discuss our experience and possible refund and we have yet to hear from anyone, it is now late June. Not going to reccomend to anyone looking for tuxedo rentals that’s for sure.

I brought in a single blazer for some alterations to Arcata Tuxedo. They are one of the few places in the area that offer alterations that aren’t dry cleaners and considering they’ve been in business for a while, I figured I’d go to them. The alterations were pretty simple, the jacket needed to be taken in a bit and the sleeves hemmed. Fairly straight forward.
I dropped it off after attempting to get in contact with the seamstress there a few times, being told that she was ‘out of town’ at least once or twice. After being measured, I was told by the seamstress that she was going out of town in a few weeks and that she’ll definitely be done with it before that. I wasn’t in any particular hurry, but that sounded reasonable to me. 2 and a half weeks later I called in and was told that ‘the seamstress had a family emergency and she had to leave town’. Which is fine, but I’m fairly certain she told me she was going on vacation. No matter, I can wait. After a month, I called back again, I was told that there were some other time sensitive orders that needed to be filled and she would get to mine ASAP. Okay, fine.
6 weeks after I dropped it off, a full month after I was told I would have it back, i called again, I was unable to get a hold of the seamstress, she was out of town, yet again. I might mention at this point that the other employee who works there does not seem to have any idea what she’s doing, I guess she just holds down the fort while the seamstress is perpetually ‘out of town’ but she is unable to give any information about the progress or time or anything on existing orders.
Anyways, I asked for her to give me a call when she got back, I received a call at the end of the week, saying my jacket was done (this was now over a month and a half after I dropped it off). I told her I would come by that weekend to get it. That Saturday, I stopped by the shop and they’re closed 2 hours early. Yet again, I have to wait some more.
I ended picking up the jacket a few days later. A $ 45 alteration job that took almost 2 months. No apologies, no mention of the wait (the employee rung me up, the seamstress was out, big surprise). The alterations themselves were of fine work, nothing special, but serviceable, but the customer service itself? Not worth the trouble. I could have learned to sew and altered the jacket myself in the amount of time it took to have Arcata Tuxedo do it.
