Arcata Exchange-Furniture On the Plaza

Arcata Exchange is an excellent business. I know because I keep coming back; I’ve bought furniture for almost every room in my house and I’m very happy with these pieces. There is not one other furniture store like this in Humboldt County. And we are lucky to have such a place in our small community.
First, Arcata Exchange’s staff are knowledgeable and ready to help. Their bottom line is really dependent on customer satisfaction. This is one of the reasons I am a repeat customer. If there is something they can do to meet the customer’s goals, they are willing to do it. As a whole, the staff is willing to work together, not as independent sales people working on commission. They have done research in their products, listen to the customers’ needs, and follow the market trends to keep on top of the competition. This is one of the things that make a business last for almost 40 years.
Second, they sell quality products. Staying on trend with the market’s demands means that they have to carry items that will meet the customer’s specific needs; such as:
— Natural and/​or organic bedding and mattresses
— Brands that use responsibly-​sourced materials and lumber
— Well-​constructed products made to last and stand the test of time (some products are sold with 10 year warranties or longer)
— Timeless, good-​looking products that won’t go out of style next year because they’re not too trendy, but not too stuffy either
— Options! They give you the choice on some products that you can finish yourself or have professionally finished for an extra fee
And finally, if there’s something you are looking for and you do the research online, or from out of town, you’ll end up here again. Go ahead, look around. For futons, bed frames, mattresses, and other really nice furniture, their prices are not only fair, but beat some of the other major retailers. Why wouldn’t you want to shop here if it saves money, and you didn’t have to travel or pay extra shipping costs. Not only that, shopping at a local business is good for our local economy. And they deliver and assemble items for a really fair price.

Purchased a foundation for my new memory foam mattress. I don’t have much experience shopping for the beds, but I had a lot of help during my visit to Arcata Exchange. Friendly and helpful employees they were and I felt comfortable shopping there. The pricing was very good as well. I loved how clean and inviting the store is and I will most likely visit this place again.

Great customer service. When my ancient futon finally gave up I headed back to Arcata Exchange to purchase a new one. They were super accommodating of my couch «emergency» and sold me a floor model so I wouldn’t have to wait. Thank you so much!

I would definitely recommend buying a bed from them. We bought a bed a few years ago and it ended up not being what we wanted so the owner was very helpful and fixed the problem for us!

This is a great place to buy a futon, there a large selection that fits your personal preferences, comforts and needs. They also have a many options of covers too. Arcata exchange is full of simple quality furniture, along with lamps, dividers and more.
Arcata Exchange has been around for a couple decades now and is dedicated to our community and giving quality customer service.

They do not stand behind their products. Do not EVER buy a bed from them! I spent a small fortune on a new bed that was the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept in and they did NOTHING to rectify it. I will never shop there again. Beware of this business!

I moved to Arcata ten years ago. My parents bought me a set of four chairs and a table to help me get started in my new apartment. Since then, I have made a constant effort to cycle more of their furniture in, while cycling old, cheap (Ikea) furniture out. To keep prices in my range, I usually opt to stain and finish the items myself. Once, my futon broke. It was covered under their warranty, and the broken piece was replaced without incident.
Sure, some of their stuff is pricey, but it is all quality. With cheap furniture, you get what you pay for. That being said, Arcata Exchange hosts grand sales events several times a year, when you may buy quality pieces for a generous discount. My favorite is when they are clearing out discontinued items! Super savings!
The staff is relaxed, helpful and friendly. Once you become a familiar face, you will be greeted by name. The customer service is exemplary; you will never fall victim to the «hard sell.» Because Arcata Exchange is involved with Arts! Alive, it is always worth your while to come in to have a look around.
Arcata Exchange is a perfect example of what a local business should be. The owner and the business are active in the Arcata community. Not only do they make donations of time and furniture to organizations committed to helping the needy, but they donated two mattresses to some friends of mine after their apartment was devastated in a fire. I can’t say enough good things about this business, its products or its employees.
