The Car Carrier

I totally agree with everyone else! These guys are completely incompetent! I had my van scheduled to be picked up from August 15 – 18. It was a delivery from DC to San Francisco. I called every day starting on August 13 to make sure everything was good to go. Every time I called, they said the driver would contact me. They were actually irritated that I called every day to try to nail down a good time for pick up. When I asked for advanced notice, they said that the driver would give advanced notice. Was I a total sucker.
Guess what? The 15^th, 16^th, and 17^th pass by. No calls from the driver or the company. I call again today, the 18^th, to see what’s going on. They told me the driver’s truck broke down. They said they were working on getting me another truck, but it wouldn’t be able to pick up until the 19^th at the earliest. That maybe it would even take until the end of the week! Uh, were you even going to call me today to tell me that? I think not.
I ended up going with Auto Transport 123 because they got good reviews on Google. And they have already scheduled a driver to pick me up on the 20^th! I told them my story and they said it is typical with these lame middle men. Auto Transport has a defined set of drivers they work with and don’t go through the same auction system all these other middle men car transporters go through.
I am so happy that I didn’t actually use these guys. It would have been just as horrible as all the other reviewers for this company.

One but does not own the company !!!’ They gave me the worst service ever. I honestly think its because the drivers do not speak word of english so massive confusion between Bob & Melissa & Stephanie and dispatcher (whom they get to transport your vehicle) then to truck driver. Once the Car Carrier gets ur info any changes they cant handle it. Moved from Boston to LA and no issues so it happened — not much BS but driver SPOKE NO ENGLISH. Didnt even know who he was as he could not even say my company was contacted w The Car Carrier to ship your jeep thst was Aug 2012. Not too much BS. w that move so LAZILY I CALLED BOB AGAIN — nice as pie till they get your $$. Then u know what i wanna say!!!

For the same trip but LA back to Boston — took the full length of time 13 days — driver kept calling –we sort of understood each other /​dispatcher said call him ²⁴⁄₇ he can talk to his trucker & understand him and they tell me — interpreter — they almost didnt deliver & 3 hrs of stress maybe longer — then like i said at his initial call (13 days w my jeep) meet me here 1 mile down /​which he called me — in boston /​close by at 10:30am — got my jeep maybe 1pm — they still owe me $ 12 lost receipt so i know tho pay —
Me — like an interpreter — omg so bad they couldn’t find a location near me for me to cab too. I am going to get the owners name believe me — this is not over — Bobs horrible manager no ppl skills. Rude rude rude — i want a refund or split w me!!! NEVER USE THEM!!!

AVOID THIS COMPANY. They were recommended to me by our movers for a move from Rochester, NY to the Bay area. They managed to screw up both the pick up AND the delivery. Furthermore, they are shockingly overpriced. As we would be out of the country for the car’s delivery, I emailed them the phone number and delivery address for my brother-​in-​law who lives in the area and received a confirmation email that everything was all set to go.
For the pickup, I gave them a 3 day window as I was instructed and gave them a Weds-​Fri window as my husband and I were leaving the country on Friday. On Thursday, I receive a call from them stating that they can only pick up our car on Saturday (after we were outside the country). There was nothing they could do to pick up the car in our arranged window. I called everyone I knew and finally arranged to have them pick up our car at our friend’s lake house.
A week later, while on vacation, I received a message from my friend in Rochester that the Car Carrier had attempted to contact him regarding a delivery address in the Bay area. I checked my email and, sure enough, there was an email from the Car Carrier stating that they did not have a delivery address. HOW THE HELL DO YOU PICK UP A CAR WITHOUT A DELIVERY ADDRESS! We called them from outside the country and they informed us that they had dropped off our car at some random gas station that would be $ 30 for them to take the car and $ 10/​day that the had it.
We spoke to Bob at the Car Carrier who blatantly lied and said that it was our fault because my brother-​in-​law didn’t have the money when they delivered the car. When we told him he was lying, he made up some other stories and excuses. Finally, we sent him the confirmation email with the delivery number and address that I had provided. He called back, essentially with his tail between his legs, admitting that they had screwed up and agreeing to pay back the $ 80 extra dollars. Frankly, they owe us alot more for all of the inconvenience. There are much cheaper and better car carriers that you should definitely use.
THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY I’VE EVER DEALT WITH.

We had a great experience with moving our two vehicles from the Boston area to California. Great customer service and at a great price too. Would definitely use them again in the future.

Ditto the previous reviewer’s comment: this was the WORST customer service experience I’ve ever had. I shipped 2 cars from SF to Chicago recently and was quoted 7 – 13 days shipping time. I shipped the cars separately a few days apart, expecting that the first car would be there when i arrived, having budgeted for a max of 13 days. Each car took 18 days to arrive!
I understand that there many be extenuating circumstances that cause an initial time estimate to be wrong. However, what really upset me about this experience was my interaction with their customer service reps. Once I got past day 13 with the first car, I started calling them daily to ask where my car was. Each time I called, I was told that the person would call the actual carrier (everything in this business is subcontracted!) to get an arrival estimate and would call me back. they never once called me back, despite my daily calls. Finally, with both cars, they told me on a Friday afternoon that the car was within 100 miles of the destination and assured me it would arrive today or tomorrow. In both instances, the car didn’t show up until Tuesday.
The icing on the cake was when my second car arrived, it showed up on a truck with 4 other cars. The front car on the truck had a totaled front end. (Fortunatley, for me, this was not my car.) The driver volunteered to me that he had just caused all the damage by driving into a bridge that was too low for his truck. I felt bad for the guy, but had to ask why my car had taken so much longer to arrive. He told me he had no clue, he’d just picked it up that morning. Basically, every customer-​facing person I ever interacted with at this company had no clue what was going on. The whole thing seemed so shady — like management was sending these people out to brush off customers when they knew full well that the 7 – 13 day delivery time was a lie.
Please do not use this company. Two additional reasons:
1.They get an F from the better business bureau.
2. They were one of the more expensive carriers from which I got a quote.
I’ve never shipped a car before, so I can’t say that other companies are better, but I also can’t imagine any company being worse!

Just the worst experience I have ever had with ANY company.
We had to move from DC to San Francisco in September. We went with Mayflower (which was great) but they had recommended «The Car Carriers» for our 2004 Toyota Truck. Not so great.
They picked up my car from Washington DC September 10^th telling me that it would be 7 – 13 days to get to SF.
By September 28^th, I was tired of waiting and called the customer service number. What transpired during the call was one of the most awkward and frustrating moments in 1 – 800 history. I asked the older gentleman on the phone if he could tell me what was happening with my truck. He said the hauling rig had broken down and was awaiting repairs about four hours south of SF. I asked him if one truck was broken down with 2 – 3 days of repairs, why couldn’t another truck come and transfer the cars. A normal question right? This guy replies «Stop asking stupid questions.» Whhhaaat!!! Who is this guy? After all, I just want my car and we’re pushing almost a month for delivery.
He tells me that I need to track down the driver. I ask him to track down the driver for me. He tells me it’s MY job. I ask him if I should make out the cashiers check to the driver. He says no way, make it out to the Car Carrier. I tell him again to get in touch with the driver for me. He cuts me off and starts talking over me reading the company mission statement like some kind of android. He does not stop. He goes on for about 4 minutes continuing to read the FAQ from this website. When I try to ask a question, he blurts out «Let me finish!»
I’ve never experienced anything like it. Just terrible, terrible customer service. I wish I had it on tape. Probably would of made the Howard Stern show.
When I finally met the drivers and picked up my truck on the 19^th day, they were total pros. Polite, etc. The Car was clean and in good condition. Too bad some of the people who work at the Car Carrier office are totally unprofessional, unhelpful (and take two hour lunches) Never return phone calls, etc.
When Mayflower or any other moving company recommends The Car Carrier, ask them for another recommendation.
Learn from my misery.

I used the Car Carrier to send my car from MD to CA because Mayflower (my moving company) recommended them. They were expensive at $ 1192, but I thought that because Mayflower recommended them it would be worth it. I have a less than 1 year old SMART car (no discount on the little car).
My car was picked up the same day as my house items were picked up from Mayflower. The man who got my car said that it would arrive in 4 days, which was much shorter than the time my house items were set to arrive. The man said it would cost $ 100 to store my car, until we could pick it up. He also said that if he didn’t take the car right then, we would charged for him coming out. I would have said good luck getting that money and gotten a new car transport service, but my husband was with the man and so off went my car.
We arrived to pick up the car at a low end garage (not the place I’d expect my car to be for $ 1200 shipping). It was outside and covered in dust. I opened it and noticed a terrible smell. When I got inside, it smelled like homeless person had been living in it. I made a joke to my husband and started to drive home. While driving home, I noticed black spots on my tan interior. It looked like someone had been lying in my car and gotten boot marks all over it. Both seats and the doors were dirty.
I arrived home in tears. I had just spend $ 1300 for my new car to arrive stinking and dirty. I realize the men who drove the car truck made it across country in 4 days, but what were they doing in my car to make it so smelly and get foot prints on the seats. FOR OVER $ 1OOO COULD THEY NOT AFFORD A TOWEL TO PUT ON THE SEAT?
It’s not been a month of me calling and trying to get a partial refund for the stains on seats that will not come out. The smell is gone, but it lingered for several days, which makes me wonder how long someone who hadn’t showered in days was sitting in my new car. My car does not feel the same to me and I feel completely ripped off.

In November of 2004 I paid this outfit to $ 3,276 via cashier’s check (they would not accept credit cards, the reasons for which would later become obvious) to transport 3 cars from NJ to CO. They subcontracted the job to an outfit called the Tucker Company, who further subcontracted to a company called Classic Rodeo owned by Carl Leach (who actually transported the cars, and whom we later found out from our insurance company was UNINSURED). Long story short, they dropped off one of the cars (a Ferrari) at night when we were not present to sign for it. They bent the hood and cracked the front spoiler, and then the fun began. After nearly 10 months of attempts to get the Car Carrier and its subs to pay for the damage — which they acknowledged in WRITING having caused — they refused. The Car Carrier did nothing to help. In the end, it cost $ 3,707 to repair the car, of which my car insurer (Hagerty/​Encompass, who by the way is fantastic) paid $ 2,707 and I paid my $ 1,000 deductible. All of this is thoroughly documented and I’ll be happy to provide all the facts and details to any poor soul who might actually be considering using this outfit. If you want your cars safely transported, do NOT use the Car Carrier. Instead, use a transporter with documented insurance who does not subcontract the work to others.
