Aptos Public Library

As one person stated this is not a child friendly place. I have been here many times with my kids before and they are usually really well behaved. However the last time I came to this library I was with my kids and a friend and her daughter. Our kids were playing with the blocks in the kids room when a librarian came in and told us that our kids were being to loud. As I was apologizing to the librarian my 2 year old son ran off down an isle. The librarian quickly snapped «And there’s no running!». No duh.
I went to grab my son when this mean old lady (the aforementioned librarian) stepped in front of me and GRABBED my son by the shoulders and yelled at him. My kid is barley 2 years old why would you think it’s okay to forcably touch someone elses kid?
I get that he shouldn’t have been running (which he probably only ran off in the first place to get away from her yelling which was much louder than our children were being) I don’t even let my kids talk to strangers so for him to be grabbed by one scared him a lot.
Also on another note, there have been 3 books that I’ve put in the drop box at the Aptos library only to have them never checked back into the system and got a bill from the library. Probably the librarian is to darn cranky to scan the books before reshelfing them.

Great library with free wifi and plenty of parking. They also have a great children’s room and a public meeting room as well. Come early and stay late!

My favorite library in Santa Cruz, clean, quiet, great selection of books, great wifi. Just wish they were open a bit earlier but heh, it’s a gift we have libraries nowadays!

W/​tablets and eBooks around, I’m happy that libraries still exist. We came here on a Sunday mainly for Tales for Tails; it is a program you can sign your kids up to read to a furry pal for about 20 minutes to a half hour.
There are many libraries in Santa Cruz county that participates in this program. This just happened to be our chosen one and my goodness how we lucked out. A family was a no show so we were able to sign my daughter up immediately. We were all crowding around Gordo, a black Labrador that is the most huggable thing ever. These dogs are calm so it will enable your kids to think these that these dogs are listening intently. I believe that he was!

Here is a tip– hire people who actually want to work in the kid area of the library, I have never felt so unwelcome by the workers here! When after my son looked up a book on the computer and needed help because it wasn’t on the shelf, he politely walked up and asked, to which the lady at the desk in the kids area said «I am not a librarian I can’t help you, you have to go ask the lady out front at the desk» This rude lady along with another «non librarian» made us feel very unwelcome ! The children’s area is not a very happy place to be for kids. Especially when we parents are trying to teach them about the library !

Full disclosure: I’m a book nerd. I can easily spend an hour or two hunting for «treasure». So it should come as no surprise that I’m a huge fan of the Aptos Library. It’s large enough to provide awesome selection and spacious parking but small enough to be easy to search.

My teenage son got his own library card. Yay! He feels cool to have it. I told him he can only have it if he is going to use it. Hopefully he starts to read more. He use to read a lot when he was younger, now he’s a teenager.
It’s a nice small library. Free Wi-​Fi. There are a few computers and a few tables. Very organized. The gentlemen who helped us was very nice. Parking is good. We’ll be back.

Free wifi. Computers for Internet access. Good selection of books. The librarians are very helpful. Books can be requested from other libraries in Santa Cruz County then sent over to Aptos location.

Hey, this is a nice little library. Pretty much all one room — it cracks me up that the «periodicals annex» is a 6X8 closet off the main room. But it is clean and well laid out — lots of places to sit and several computers for internet use. Also good high speed wireless connection.
Selections are limited of course, due to the size.. .but it has been hopping ever since I’ve been sitting here, so it clearly is utilized extensively by the community.
