China Star

We’re new to the area and have been looking for a great local Chinese restaurant… long story short, this place is not it. The food was hot, made on time, and mostly edible which are the reasons for the 2 star rating. As for specifics, The General Tso chicken was subpar, fried rice was tasteless, wonton soup was just ok, and the eggrolls themselves had no flavor but the wrappers on them for whatever reason had a sweet, cinnamon-​like flavor (as if they had fried some type of dessert in the same oil and used it for the eggrolls too). Overall very disappointed. Will not return.

I love Chinese food… I thought I would try a new location and Unilocal has China Star a 4 Star Resturant but never ordered house fried rice that was actually yellow rice with baby shrimp. I also tried the boneless ribs because of a review someone posted as“yummy” the boneless ribs they sold me was hard to even chew seriously. I will never return here to purchase anything, even the spring roll wasn’t worth buying again. China Chen Resturant is a Real Chinese food spot.

I would like to give them 3 stars but a few things aren’t really up on the customer service side of things. Firstly I have had delivery and to go orders, as well as take out. The pick up time has been wrong by 15 – 20 minutes each time I come to pick up food. I have also been unfortunate to have a egg roll or rice missing and have to return to pick it up myself. A bit more inconvenient when on the clock. So I would suggest using this as a rule of thumb to plan ahead if your getting lunch for the office and are on a lunch hour or errand run. As for delivery I don’t care much here late or not it shows up correct.
Second thing when I call my orders in the young man doesn’t seems to happy to be taking orders and mumbles through repeating your order with the way he likes to call things even if the item is printed on the menu and you order it that way. So spend some extra time to learn the alternate names of dishes they don’t always match the menu when calling a order in.. Kinda hard for me not knowing Chinese and all either.
When I started my review they had three stars and I was thinking I might give them four then when I walked out of there 45 minutes later tonight without even an apology just a stare down for being so late. When I placed my order I was told 15 – 20 minutes wasn’t told how much but figured I’d add the 10 to 15 minutes onto that and then get there. That’s a hour and 15 min later from when I placed my order!

Amazing!!! the boneless ribs taste just like NYC! After Asian Fusion Buffet closed due to all the failed inspections, I didn’t know where I was going to get Chinese around here. So glad I stumbled upon this place. I will be back.

China Star is my favorite local «Chinese Spot». The food is good and hot, the place is family run, super clean and very affordable. I’ve never had something I didn’t like nor have I ever had a request for something special turned down. Yummy!

I’ve lived in Ruskin since 2010 and have tried every take out Chinese place around and they have all been average to below average until NOW…
A few months back someone at Publix told me about China Star while we were in the check-​out line. I’ve been back 4 times and haven’t been disappointed…
All the dishes that I have tried all have their unique flavor (the other places in the area all their dishes tend to taste the same), the egg rolls are excellent, so is the hot and sour soup and the many dishes we have tried have all been of high quality…
The young lady and her brother (when he isn’t cooking) that work the counter have been very polite and pleasant to deal with…
I see some of the negative reviews but I have nothing but good things to say about China Star
and will continue to frequent the restaurant…

I have tried a couple other local Chinese restaurants and was not ‘wowed’ by either, but then I tried China Star… boy, am I glad I did. I have ordered from there a few times and each time the food has been excellent! Our favorites are the general tso chicken, orange peel chicken, fried dumplings and spring rolls. IMO this place is the best! It’s even better than my favorite place back home. So happy I discovered this place and you should too!

Awful place terrible food everything’s is taste less I have bought $ 60worth of food that is a lot of chineses food they disnt give me what I want I have order 10egg roll and I told the lady I need a lot of duck sauces for the egg rolls she only give me 5 really that is not even enought for my egg rolls and I have I order rangoon they didn’t even give me any sauce and I order the beef and broccoli all I can see its oil, OIL, and a bunch of broccoli with no beef .ill never go their again ill never recommend any one to go their.

Best around and very affordable! I only come in about once a month and my order is remembered and always correct!

Another visit — this time had the General’s chicken and some Lo Mein.
If you are familiar and like the chicken dish, do be sure to try it from here — I was really impressed. for a take out kitchen.

As the duke of this chinese food place, I hereby deem it the best chinese food place in Apollo Beach! Quicker than most (still «ready 15 minute»), the fried rice is loaded with pork, the eggrolls are of excellent size and quality, and ordering extra hot General Tso comes really, tearjerkingly hot — which is exactly what I wanted.

Ordered Kung Pao chicken. It was tasty, but the chicken was «rubbery» and seemed to be fatty. My wife had Sweet and Sour Chicken and said it was good. We also shared fried dumplings which were not very tasty.

We have been looking for good Chinese food in Riverview for a while now. Most of the local places are three stars or less. I would rate this one higher than the others in the area, possibly 3.5 or 4. This was the first time we tried it.

Uhhh I can’t say I’m getting much luck around here. The location seems nice and clean. The service is okay but very pushy.
The Hawaiian five o is what I ordered and what I got. The beef was not very good because it tasted very flash frozen. The sauce was good tho and the rice…
Maybe they had a bad day but I will give them another shot I still haven’t had my lemon chicken yet.

We were passing thru the area and were hungry at lunchtime. We are from FL but not locally from the Apollo Beach area. Honestly I didnt have high hopes from a strip mall Chinese place but I was amazingly surprised. I went with ‘cant screw it up’ Beef Lo Mein and it was actually delicious. The beef was tender and had a lot of flavor, whatever sauce they used on the noodles was quite flavorful. My meal mate had soup which was also delicious. I wish we had a good Chinese restaurant like this where we are from. If we are passing by again we will most definitely stop here again.

Always outstanding, fresh. Have eaten there 20+ times.
