Residence Inn Ann Arbor

We had a renovated room and it was amazing. I liked the whole layout and it was very clean. The guest service was very friendly and they had a huge and elaborate continental breakfast to which my daughter took advantage of 2^nd and 3^rd helpings. Highly recommend coming here.

Fridge off when we arrived, just like another reviewer. So, with no ice bucket provided and no ice makers anywhere we had to go to the front office with a juice jug.
Absolutely useless WiFi. Up for 3 minutes and down for 15.

We took a trip to bring an elderly person to visit a longtime friend and need a place to stay that would accommodate 3 of us. This hotel did just that by having a 2 bedroom unit with a sitting/​living room area as the common space within the room. Along with that the kitchen area included all the necessary things for having a meal whether it be carry out and brought in or made there. Great water pressure not seen in many hotels. Charlene the front desk weekend supervisor made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The refrigerator had an ice-​maker so you did not have to go looking for the ice machine, yet it was not on when we arrived and no ice was in the holder, I walked to the office and they filled up a bag of ice to supply our need till the maker could do it’s thing. The morning breakfast bar had ample foods to choose from which was a short walk from the building we stayed. There were trays to carry your goods back to you room as well as someone offering to help you with your load of goodies. The 24hr coffee is always a winner in my book. Renovations are in progress and we did not have a renovated room but it was still in good shape. Local food and stores are close by for supplies. They will even fill your fridge if you want them to do so. Friendly staff and clean grounds makes this place a nice place to stay and want to come back to the next time I visit.

As others have stated it is really in need of the renovation that is (apparently) planned. Basically everything in and out is getting very run down, from the rooms themselves, to the common area by reception, to the exercise room and equipment and the exterior wood and paintwork. Added disappointments to me were discovering that the «managers reception» is now a «social hour» Tuesday –Thursday (read no wine or beer). Very surprising and unexpected was the road noise. It is not that close to I-​94 (further than the nearby Towne Suites for example, and no closer than the nearby Fairfield Inn. I am not a light sleeper but was woken every morning at about 5am by the incessant road noise of every car and truck. Please guys when you upgrade — do something about the sound insulation! 2 stars

On the up side: This place is being renovated! On the down side: It really needs it.
Let’s start with check-​in. Delayed flight, late drive from Detroit Metro… when I get there, practically no parking at all. When I check-​in I took my Marriott points. As I was walking to my room, I mentioned it was late and asked for a bottle of water. (Most Marriott properties will offer a complimentary bottle of water to Platinum guests that arrive late).
I was told that offering «free water» was not a benefit of the Residence Inn. However, there should be a free water and cookies, as well as a care package in my room (due to the renovations). However, there was none of the above. In a hotel room that I’ve never stayed at, I like to have a bottle of water next to my bed in case I awaken in the middle of the night.
Strike 1 & 2.
I was told to choose the 30-​day free trial on the Internet, since it’s all free anyway. However, it’s a rough connection and has dropped 2X while I’m writing this review.
The refridgerator constantly rattles like a fully loaded dishwasher set on high. The table wobbles a solid 1.5 inches back and forth every time I touch it, or try to type. The rolling office chair that’s in my room, that I’m sitting on to write this review, is broken as well. The filter in the bathroom, has a black-​mold something growing on it… clearly hasn’t been cleaned in months. When the air conditioner/​heater turns on… it sounds like a jet engine… loud enough that the person I was on the phone with asked me what was happening in my background.
And I know this is picky, but in every Marriott I’ve stayed in they have the 3 little bottles: Shampoo, Conditioner and moisturizer. With this single digit weather, I NEED the moisturizer people! You can’t forget to give us that 0.7 fl oz of dry itchy relief!
I’m a very loyal Marriott member. However, there are other options than this hotel. I will probably try this place again after the renovations, but I will be skeptical. I think I’m going to go move hotels now.

Acceptable, but depressing. There was a toenail clipping next to my bed. The shower didn’t look quite clean enough to take a shower.
Check-​in person is bored and slightly angry. Not awful, but not pleasant.
So many people are in Ann Arbor for medical treatment, it’s a comfort when you come across a check-​in clerk with an ounce of friendliness. You will not find any friendliness here. Check-​in makes things as difficult and grumpy as possible.
But the beds are not horrible and there were no hairs on the pillows & sheets. Once you get into your room, roaches will (probably) not crawl on you. And the TVs work so you can watch Monday Night Football.

I stayed here for a few days with my family and had a pretty good experience. The Inn is a collection of what are effectively little apartments; we took a two bedroom suite. While everything inside looks a bit old and cheap, it works. Most importantly, though, the staff was friendly and helpful. They had breakfast out when we had to leave at 4AM to get to the airport, and they quickly sent someone over with blankets when they were needed.
We only had some minor problems. One of the room cards that they gave us didn’t work, which was strange. The beds were too hard for my mom and she had trouble sleeping, but they were just fine for me (or I was just exhausted). More irritating was that there is only 20 minutes of warm water at a time. I understand, each apartment has its own water tank, but it still made us rush!

This hotel setup is weird, with what looks like apartments at the front of the complex with a small, horribly marked lobby attached, and then a 2+ story traditional hotel-​type building on the backside. The entrance is not well marked from the road either.
When I checked in they were out of the studio room I’d booked (using hotel points) so they upgraded us to a two bedroom suite. I’m glad they did because the only way to the studios on the 2^nd and 3^rd floor of the apartment complex were outside steps. The 2 bedroom, located in the hotel part of the complex, was huge, with what looked and felt like king beds, a full kitchen, and a sitting area with a fireplace. Nice if you have a large party or large family, but way too much space for just Ken and me.
The parking lot was small, and we had to park very, very far away from our door, in the last spot available, when we got back around midnight after our concert.
For breakfast, the pool, the workout room and checkout, you had to walk across the parking lot and through the pool area or drive all the way around.

This was a really fabulous experience here. My family and I booked a two bedroom suite and service was top notch from start to finish. We originally had booked a two bedroom bi-​level suite with one bedroom and bathroom loft style and another below. You do lack on the privacy issue so we requested if they had any more of the two bedroom suites that were on the same level for only $ 10/​night. They were really friendly and even discounted us that $ 10 cost with apologies that it wasn’t up to our standards.
The beds were comfy and they provided us with a pack n play for our little one and also offered free wifi.
The complimentary breakfast was FANTASTIC — we were able to feed a hungry 9 people for free for a breakfast that included sausage, eggs, breakfast potatoes, french toast, pancakes, even Asian rice with toppings, oatmeal, cereal, pastries, fruit, fruit & yogurt parfaits, yogurt, make your own waffles and much more! For Mother’s Day, they passed out long stem roses.
Over all, a great experience and very much worth staying here.

Although this was my first Residence Inn experience, I really wanted to like this particular one since the staff was so nice to me but there were a couple of issues that I could not get over.
1) water wasn’t hot enough (lukewarm shower in early Feb.?! Yikes!)
2) no movie channels
3) uncomfortable bed and pillows
I hunkered down from a big snow storm in the Residence Inn for two nights. The staff couldn’t have been nicer but I wish there would have been some pay-​per-​view movie channels to tide me over but at least the WiFi was complimentary and fairly quick.
I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless it were an extended stay and not for business reasons. The staff graciously gave me a complimentary upgrade to the bi-​level 2 bedroom «penthouse» which was very spacious. The suite was more spacious with a bigger kitchen than those of Homewood Suites.
Great location, great staff, dated room. I’m still looking for a comfortable hotel in Ann Arbor…
