History

Established in 1898.

Since 1896, we have served Washtenaw County by taking in all types of unwanted, injured, lost, stray, abandoned, and abused animals. Now, we are an award-winning animal welfare organization dedicated to saving the lives and reducing the suffering of animals in our community. In 2009, we moved into our state-of-the-art animal care facility, and today HSHV is recognized for our best practices and highest animal «save rate» among all similar shelters in Michigan.
