This is a great place to stay. You feel like it’s your own home… except Tey makes breakfast for you! The front porch is a great place to chill and have a glass or two of wine. Highly recommend.

After leaving the review, the owner contacted me to apologize and say that they had taken care of my concerns. They also offered a free return stay to make up for our horrible experience. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t be able to return to Murphy’s anytime soon (my husband is a busy farmer and we have two young children. Our stay had been carefully planned) and if we did, we definitely wouldn’t care to stay there again. It was that bad. I asked the owner if he would compromise and give us a partial refund instead and he refused. That is just bad business and completely unfair. We wasted $ 1000 on a dirty disgusting house, not to mention our precious family time off together. I would steer clear of this place. When I went to return the key in Angels Camp the owner didn’t even ask how our stay was. I had to write a Unilocal review for them to even care.

My bf and I stayed here this weekend for a quick trip to angels camp and was quite impressed with our experience. Very cute, cozy, and clean. They provide complimentary wifi, coffee, sodas, water, beer and wine available at all times and fresh baked chunky chocolate chip cookies for a late afternoon snack. They have 3 rooms with separate bathroom/​shower for each room. We stayed in the Chardonnay room with a private deck/​patio which was great! Lastly we were quite impressed with our breakfast: organic baked eggs, apple and pork sausage & vegetable frittata, fresh seasonal fruit and fresh squeezed OJ! Everything was wonderful… including the hosts. You can tell they pay attention to little details!

The beds are comfortable and the rooms clean. Not to mention the Breakfast… very, very delicious! They even recommended and made reservations for us for dinner.
Coffee all day long! That is a major plus in my book. Highly recommended!

This review is for the Murphys House on Main. The house is located right in the middle of Main St in Murphys (as the name suggests!). It is the ideal location for a weekend in Murphys — you can walk to all the tasting rooms, restaurants, and shops that Murphys has to offer. To check in you just have to stop off at the Cooper House B&B in Angels camp (about 10 mins away — also on your way from the Bay Area) and get the key. We have never stayed at the Cooper House B&B, but it looks adorable and the property is kept up very well.
If you are able to book the house for one of the events that Murphys offers throughout the year you really have the prime location and will be the envy of everyone who passes by. Initially we booked the house for the Presidents Wine Weekend 3 years ago (before we had a baby) and it was a perfect location for that. The past 2 years we have stayed for Irish Day and are able to watch the parade from the front porch and bring our son back for a nap when he gets tired. We already have our stay booked for next year, and I told Tey and Rob that we will be back every year as long as they let us!
The house itself is large. You have 3 bedrooms so it is ideal to come up with friends and family. It is tastefully decorated without having excess tchotchkes (something I appreciate as my 16 month old son gets into everything). The master bedroom is huge with a king bed and has a walk-​in closet as well as a small recessed seating area that was perfect for setting up my son’s pack-​n-​play for sleeping. The master bath is attached and is also quite large with 2 sinks and a shower. The Master bed and bath overlook the deck and creek outside, and at night you can just hear the sound of the creek below as it lulls you to sleep. The other 2 bedrooms each have queen beds and share a bathroom with a tub at the end of the hall. The kitchen is well-​equipped if you want to save some money and cook some of your own meals during your stay. You are just responsible for cleaning the kitchen and putting away all dishes before you leave — the maid cleans the rest of the house.
Every year that we have stayed at the Murphys House on Main they have made improvements. The décor has improved and recently they put flat screen TVs in all the bedrooms and the living room.
Tey and Rob are so welcoming and friendly. I also highly recommend their TCL Chocolates. Tey sells them in the studio that is attached to the house on Saturdays I believe and also have their main shop in Angels Camp. We always stock up when we come to stay in Murphys. The smores are my favorite (especially the Blackberry, but Raspberry, Blueberry, and classic are all amazing).
Anyway, to summarize — you will not find a more ideal location for your stay in Murphys. Bring a couple of friends and the cost is extremely reasonable. Tey and Rob — thank you for another great stay and we’ll see you next year!

5+ stars for Rob and Tey — the incredible hosts at Cooper House. They were so gracious, friendly, and truly took care of us during our stay. I even have a very unusual food allergy, and they went out of their way to make sure that was taken care of so that my breakfasts had all the «parts,» too.
My husband and I were at Cooper House for 3 nights. It was very nice to be able to choose what we wanted for breakfast from their menu; the menu included both cold breakfast items as well as hot dishes. Tea and coffee are available all day long, along with soda, wine, and beer. We were treated to freshly baked cookies in the afternoon.
We loved that Cooper House is close to wonderful old downtown Angels Camp. We walked easily down and enjoyed the shops, restaurants, and also the theater on the main street!!! All the shop keepers were so friendly.
The Inn was very clean — and since we were the only guests during our stay, we were able to really enjoy the living room and fireplace completely. We felt very comfortable laying on the carpeted floor in front of the fireplace. It was very relaxing — just what we needed. It was very quiet and no noise distraction of any kind.
The front porch was very inviting with a couple sets of chairs; the weather was such that we didn’t sit out there but. . it would be lovely in warmer weather.
There are board games for guests to play; we’d planned to do that — but. .just relaxed instead!
Cooper House in Angels Camp is centrally located so that day trips can easily be made — in all directions.
Robes are provided. In that this is, as shared previously, an older home — the former home of Dr. Cooper, while each room has a designated private bathroom, the bathrooms are not part of the bedroom. Again, the bathrooms were spotless and very nice amenities (soap, shampoo/​conditioner and lotion).

My husband and I just returned from a 3-​night stay at the Cooper House, and we loved it! Rob and Tey were warm, welcoming hosts, and if we are ever staying in the Calaveras/​Amador area again, this will be our first choice!
The house itself is darling … house of Dr. Cooper, former doctor in Angel’s Camp. It has all of the charm of an older house, but with modernized amenities that do not make it feel like a rustic experience. :-) Since we were there in December, and it was chilly, we didn’t really take advantage of the amazing front porch OR our own private deck outside of our room (one of the perks of the Chardonnay room), but if we come back in a warmer season, would love to enjoy a cup of tea or glass of wine out there.
As it was, we got to enjoy the main sitting room instead, which had a wood burning stove going all the time, … great place to sit and read your book, or play some of the board games that they have available for guests to use. You can even pour yourself a glass of wine or beer, or make a cup of coffee and have a fresh homemade cookie to go with it. :-) Every. Day. :-)
It is very QUIET. We enjoyed that. Just what we were hoping for!
The breakfast was so good, and I really appreciated the attention to local and organic foods. I know that is not easy or cost-​efficient for hotels and restaurants to do, no matter how much better it is for you than conventional. What separated Cooper out from other B&Bs that we have stayed at is that you get to choose what you’d like for breakfast, every day. There is a nice variety of selections, and it was fun to get to try several delicious things. Since our last morning was New Year’s Day, Tey even brought out champagne and poured us mimosas (fresh squeezed OJ, of course!). :-)

I couldn’t ask for more! Rob and Tey were great hosts, and the breakfast was divine! The BF and i came here for some R&R and the Cooper Inn delivered. We will be back!

Rob and Tey are great innkeepers. Not only do they offer quality lodging for the price but they are heavily involved in the community sitting on many committees to make sure tourism is enjoyable in the Angels Camp and Murphys area. They also put on the cool Dia De Las Muertes house during Halloween.

This place was awesome! My husband and I stayed here for 3 days and 2 nights. Rob and Tey are very friendly and Rob is a great cook. This place was so comfortable that we both felt like we were staying in our own home. The room was very clean and accomodating. They also offer free beer, wine and sodas. We highly reccomend this place and if you stay here you won’t regret it!

This was our 2^nd annual stay at the charming Cooper House Inn. Thankfully nothing has changed since our stay in 2011. The breakfasts are still organic, gourmet, and customized. Rob and Tey are still as entertaining and welcoming as ever. The room (a change from last year) was extremely comfortable and spacious. All in all we just can’t say enough good things about the Cooper House Inn. We wouldn’t have chosen it for the 2^nd year in a row if it wasn’t the very best in lodging in the Mother Lode

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Cooper House. The house is a very, relaxing environment with a beautiful porch to enjoy your morning coffee on. It is a quick walk to downtown, but feels far removed with the lovely green trees and gardens around the house. Tey was extremely helpful with recommendations on restaurants and area attractions. Also, Tey’s breakfasts were absolutely fantastic! I am still dreaming about the baked eggs. I highly recommend staying at Cooper House.

My husband and I stayed at the Cooper House Bed and Breakfast two weeks ago. It was very much a spur of the moment trip, but we coudn’t have asked for a nicer place to spend our night and morning. The food is incredible… baked eggs, French Toast, fresh O. J…and oh… the chocolate cake. We also recieved free, unlimited wine, beer, water, soda… very untypical of inns, but a very nice addition by these innkeepers. Thank You Tey and Rob for a great stay!

I am reviewing at this location page because this is where we read the raving reviews and thought we would be staying. I’m sure the Angels Camp location is as fantasitc as everyone says. Again: THIS IS FOR THE MURPHYS location
I called the number listed here on Unilocal and booked a room thinking this location (high Unilocaler expectations) is where we were going to stay for the night. Upon booking the room, Tey said he would email me a receipt with information about the reservation. This never happened. If it did, then maybe we would not have gone to the wrong location (which wasted time & caused stress and confusion) and we would have known we were not staying at the glorious Angels Camp location.
The Murphys location is an excellent location for «Stomp.» That is about as far as my compliments go. It was awkward staying here as there were numerous (non customers) people coming in and out living area to use the space to chill during stomp. The front porch was also very popular for these folks. There is an adorable stream that passes along the side of the house. My group (which had 2 of the 3 rooms) wanted to hang out and enjoy the stream. To our disappointment, these same strangers (again not paying customers) also took over the table & chairs next to the stream. Boooo!
All in all, the place was way over priced and you do not get all the adorable little perks others rave about at the Angles Camp location.
I am not one to give such low reviews, but in this case I feel very disappointed.

We had a wonderful stay at Cooper House. Tey greeted us when we arrived and made us feel right at home. We stayed in the Chardonay room and sat outside on the deck to have some wine and a snack that Tey prepared for us. We walked down the street to Crusco’s for a delicious homestyle italian meal.
Breakfast was amazing, loved my french toast and baked eggs, everything was so freshly prepared. Rob greated us in the morning and made sure we were enjoying ourselves.
If you are planning to visit Angels Camp and want a super nice clean and relaxing place to stay then make sure to visit Cooper House.

My husband and I stayed two nights with the purpose of attending a concert at a nearby winery and touring the area. This was an excellent location to do both. Cooper House is very inviting and extremely comfortable. We stayed in the Cabernet Suite. The beds are amazing and you are assured a good nights rest. It is very quiet here.
Rob and Tey are excellent hosts. They know much about the area and gave great suggestions for things to do, places to see and local restaurants to dine in. The individually cooked breakfast is perfect to start your day and the front porch is a great place to relax with a glass of wine and a plate of anti-​pasta treats they provide to end your day.
The helpful directions on how to get back to Angels Camp after the concert let out, by a less used «back road» saved us an enormous amount of time and we avoided waiting in long traffic lines to exit the winery and snake through Murphys.
To respond to one of the reviews about the bathrooms being in the hallway… yes that is true for two of the three rooms. However we did not find this to be a problem as each room does have its own bathroom so you are not sharing with anyone else. It is a historic house and the renovations that have been done to keep as much of the gold country charm (a reason you would want to stay here) as possible but still provide modern amenities have been done with significant thought and taste. IF you need the bathroom within your room, go with the Zinfandel Suite. Also the Chardonnay bathroom is a bit roomier than the Cabernet Suite bathroom.
If we are in this area again, we will definitely plan to stay at Cooper House B&B.

The Cooper House has been taken over by two fantastic inn keepers. You can expect to be VERY well taken care of, a fantastic made-​to-​order breakfast, evening appetizers, wine, beer, soda, and home made desserts. Tey and Rob understand how to make you feel at home. We’ve stayed for an anniversary weekend and came back a second time with our kids. We’re planning our next trip with my parents! Why stay at a hotel?!! You won’t be sorry. ENJOY!

What a wonderful stay at this B&B, starting with the best chocolate chip cookies ever waiting for us on arrival (choco swirls in there!), and brownies in the oven. Our room was very comfortable with access to a sunny deck, amenities were plentiful, and the hors d’ouevres and breakfast were scrumptious. Rob and Tey are the consumate hosts — we felt very well cared for. Great experience overall!

The only Bed and Breakfast in Angels Camp and it is run by Amy Grainger, her husband, and dog Shaka who’s super cute. There are 3 charming suites: Chardonnay, Cabernet, and Zinfandel. We stayed in the Chardonnay Suite which had a large bed and claw foot tub in the bathroom. My only wish is that the bathroom was connected to the room, otherwise, the place is extremely charming. Amy takes good care of you, making sure you have plenty in your breakfast basket and anything else you need to get settled. She’s very friendly and makes you feel at home.
