Radiance Dental

Our family had been going to Radiance Dental for over 10 years when Dr. John Whitworth was the dentist and we loved him and the entire staff. A few years ago Dr. Nguyen bought the business and hired a new staff. The front office receptionist is very brash and needs to work on her customer service skills. We were happy with the new dentist, however, my husband went in as his crown fell off and it needed to be cemented back on. He understood that a new crown would eventually be needed, but at this time could only afford to have the crown recemented on and would get a new crown in the near future. I called a few days later to schedule an appointment for my cleaning and the receptionist told me, we are not longer accepting you and your family as patients, as your husband did not follow our recommendations for a new crown!!! I was speechless after going there for so long, and then it occured to me that unless you are spending a lot of money on dental services, they do not want to service your other needs. We received the same letter that another customer on Unilocal got. Well, too bad for your office, as I just spend $ 6000 on veneers for my son at Dr. Whitworth’s office in Brea (as I felt his experience in cosmetic dentistry was vast compared to Dr. Nguyen’s) However, I was just getting ready to give Radiance Dental a chance to do some work on my teeth, but I will invest my money in another dentist who is willing to stay the course through cleanings and regular visits, not just the ones that make them money! I did not know a dentist could release you from their office if you do not follow their choice on how much dental work you are willing to get done on that particular visit.

Started coming here when owned by Dr Whitworth, who was very good. But since Dr Nguyen took over, not great quality. My husband had a crown done here and it has fallen out THREE times now! When he went in again, rudely told well this tooth wont hold a crown so do you want us to pull it out for $ 85 or want a bridge? With no explanation!
I have mysteriously not had a cavity in over 5 years, this last cleaning the hygienist asked the dr to look at what she believed was a cavity– he said no, she even challenged him again and he said no, well today I ended up having to get it fixed at another dentist office.
I chipped my front tooth slightly and have had to return about every 6 – 9 months again because the repair keeps coming off.
My teen son has gone from consistent cavities before this office to miraculously none in five years, im sure when he goes to new office they will find all overlooked issues.
We have dental HMO insurance so it is financially better to radiance dental if we have no cavities as we have no copay and the insurance is a heavily discounted reimbursement to dentist.
At new office today I was overwhelmed by how much better their xray equipment was technologically than radiance’s old blurry pictures. Nothing has been updated or new at radiance for years.

Let me start off by saying there is NOTHING radiant about Radiance Dental! I am in disbelief on how I was treated and still in shock after receiving the letter I did terminating our doctor-​patient relationship. I felt this was an act of greed and I definitely felt discriminated based on the choices I made for my own dental needs. Before I visited this dentistry, I was committed to another dentistry for over 12+ years, but because of a change in ownership and dentist provider changes I was eager to find a new forever dentist. I did the research and read the Unilocal reviews on Radiance Dental and was hopeful that I would have an enjoyable experience, which I can honestly say both my step-​daughter and I had during our first visit there. Of course I could agree with other Unilocal review goers, that the hygienist and dentist was extremely nice and the receptionist not so much, but hey this dentist was local and I wanted to try them out. So I did. Then after hearing that I needed some work done (3 «dot» cavities to be exact, which were located at the back of my mouth), I received a copy of my treatment plan that broke down the cost of work which included my out of pocket cost that amounted to $ 285. Included in this treatment plan were three $ 30 fees that come to find out are OPTIONAL applications per my insurance provider as well as three $ 65 fees associated with the 3 dot cavities. I know from previous experience with my step-​daughter that you can choose to pay the $ 65 fees for white fillings or go with silver at no cost. They also have another resin-​based composite that is included in our plan at no-​cost that was never offered or suggested instead of silver. Anyhow, I politely called the office and went over my findings and confirmed my choice to go with the no cost option since they were dot cavities located in the back of my mouth which were not visible. The receptionist seemed understanding and scheduled my appointment for the end of the month because she said she had to order the product because the ones she had on the shelf were expired. About a week later, my husbands cleaning appointment was canceled and a week after that I received a letter saying following: «We are writing this letter to let you know that we can no longer see your family at this office, effective immediately. All appointments for your family have been cancelled. We always strive to provide the best, quality care possible for our patients and try to do so at reasonable fees that are comparable to other practitioners in our area. It is imperative that there is a good two way doctor-​patient relationship. We apologize that we were not able to meet your expectations as a health care provider. Due to this we feel that the doctor-​patient relationship has been compromised and we can no longer be your provider.» WOW! REALLY? SERIOUSLY? — is what I said too! I have shared this letter with several people including my insurance provider and I will not stop there. Our friends who we just referred canceled their appointments today after hearing about this discriminative treatment that we faced with this dentistry. They too will not support a dentistry who will cut your ENTIRE FAMILY off if you ask questions or decline their optional upgrades or services. We as patients have the right to choose what we feel is the best plan for us because after all its our right. We should never settle and choose a dentistry that provides exceptional service without feeling pressured or judged. Shame on them for how they treated my family and I. Best of luck should you choose Radiance Dental as your dentist provider…

One of the best dentists around! I’ve had Dr. Nguyen do cleanings and fillings for cavities and I NEVER FEEL A THING! The guy’s hands are like magic. The staff here is great, friendly, courteous, and prompt. Also facilities are nice.
I don’t trust too many dentists, but I never once felt like I was being taken for a ride. Dr. Nguyen is up front and honest about everything. I think I found my forever Dentist.

It’s been three years since I came back here. That’s how much I hate going to the dentist. So my husband dropped my phone on my bottom front tooth and chipped a big chunk off it. Luckily Dr. Anthony Nguyen squeezed me in and fixed my tooth in 30 minutes today. Now it looks like a new tooth. Guess I don’t have to be mad at the hubby anymore.

This review is OVERDUE! I had the procedure completed at the end of January 2015. All the horror stories I have been hearing from others about root canals, made me terrified for life about going to the dentist! I recall being the kid that cries with each injection… Yeah, I was THAT kid, lol. Finally at age 29, I had my first root canal ever… And Dr. Nguyen made the process painless! Went in for first consultation and he took the time to explain about the process and about a crown. They’re very accommodating with busy schedules, too! I scheduled for both the root canal and crown procedures in one day and totally did not expect to have a sore jaw for more than a day… TIP: TAKE SOME IBUPROFEN BEFORE/​AFTER THE PROCEDURE! They have high-​tech equipment and also offer you the choice of watching a show/​movie on NetFlix or listening to your favorite station on Pandora to help drown out the noise during the procedure. It definitely helps! I came back two weeks later in February for the crown fitting and placement and everything has been great since. I totally recommend this dentist and his amazing staff!

Very pleasant first visit. Nice and friendly staff. I was seen right away. I didn’t have the hassle of filling out New Patient forms since I already completed it via ZocDoc. I really appreciate that they stayed open a little later on Tuesdays so that I could come after work. Even though I was the last patient of the day, the dentist and oral hygienist took their time and were thorough. They were gentle and made me feel at ease. I may have started out with clenched fists. But I quickly became relaxed as they examined and cleaned my teeth. They had enjoyable bedside manners. I definitely recommend this dental office.

Dr. Nguyen and his staff are great! They are very personable and friendly. You won’t be disappointed with their service.

So glad to find a dentist that I love! I haven’t been to the dentist for 2 years. The last time I went, the dentist in Newport Beach tried to rip me off by quoting that I had about $ 3k worth of fixing to do when all I wanted was a cleaning and it was the week of my wedding so I didn’t do it of course. 2 years later, came to this place the receptionist was helpful! Dr. Nguyen is an awesome dentist too and he has awesome technology! He is honest And I like that he hums or sings sometimes. :) After my examination, concluded that I had 5 cavities as evidenced by the individual pictures of my teeth taken in front of me and seen on the screen! I was embarrassed that I avoided the dentist for 2 years leaving my teeth in such bad condition! And the cost to fix it was half as much as what the previous dentist quoted even though I have the same dental insurance. Dr. Nguyen was gentle with his hands and I had a pleasant dental experience. I just had to come like 3 times between a new crown, cavities and cleaning. This was the first time ever after getting a new crown/​cavity that it fitted perfectly and I didn’t have to come back to make any fixing. :)

If you want a dentist who KNOWS what he is doing, is honest, gives you options, great/​professional chair manner, clean office and updated equipment ~ Dr. Nguyen fits the checklist. My family first encountered him in an office in Brea and we were excited that we’d found someone we could TRUST. Later, we found out he’d opened his own office and we’re back with him. We highly recommend him and he can help you prioritize the treatments.

I had an emergency and required dental work. Dr Nguyen was very accommodating and was able to book me in. He was very meticulous and explained to me the entire process and made me feel very assured that I was in the right hands. He was able to fix my tooth and whole ordeal was painless! I highly recommend Dr Nguyen.

What a nightmare this office is, they don’t care about you it’s all about the money and what kind of insurance you have. The lady in front office is so rude and unprofessional. They decided not to take my insurance right in middle of services, and the dentist himself could care less about you. What a truly horrible experience especially for someone who has dental anxiety.

I wouldn’t let this dentist work on my dogs teeth. The DR is very aggressive & money hungry. The worst experience I ever had @ a dentist

Literally the worst dentist office I have ever encountered. The woman at the front is extremely rude and unorganized and has no idea how to talk to clients politely. They don’t so certain things because «they don’t feel comfortable about certain procedures» probably because they want to take as much money from you as possible. They don’t take barely any insurance companies. All in all I would never recommend this place to anyone I care about, because let’s face it, there’s nothing worse than a bad dentist and these guys are HORRIBLE.

Five star! Dr. Nguyen and is staff is very professional and truly cares about their patients. I’m one of those people that believes nothing is wrong with my teeth until my boyfriend urged me to go get it checked out by dr.nguyen. I was very hesitant at first because it’s been 2+ years but he was so persistent and went and made me an appt.
Dr. Nguyen and The entire staff was really nice considering the fact that I was over an hour late to my appt due to traffic. I came in and filled out my new patient form and was in right away! His assistant took my xray and kept apologizing for it being painful but it wasn’t her fault. So I thought that was sweet. Then dr. Nguyen came and looked over my X-​rays and told me what’s wrong and what needed to be worked on. Afterwards they cleaned my teeth and there was a huge difference. I was very happy when I left, I didn’t feel rushed at all; they really took their time to take care of you. I’m not so nervous to be back next week for my appt.

What a great Dentist experience! The office staff is so friendly and Dr. Nguyen not only explained to me what I needed but showed me my X –Ray and went over why he was going to do a certain procedure! I finally feel like I found a Dentist who isn’t trying to just make money!

I do not like going to the dentist, so I hesitate to say that I enjoyed my dental visit with Dr Nguyen. But I did!
I am an enormous sissy when it comes to the dentist, and it was actually a pain-​free and enjoyable experience.
I liked how the hygienist explained everything to me, and exactly why it was important. That was something that I had neglected to learn, or just was never taught before.
Then the Dr was very friendly, and checked in on me several times to make sure that I was okay even though he was busy. Nice to know that I actually matter!
I am going to recommend this to my Mom, since she is even more afraid of the Dentist than I am, so I will update this, if I remember, when she goes if there is any reason.
The price was very fair too, which was my main motivator. I wanted to get my work done cheaply, but I also wanted to get good work done.

I don’t normally post reviews but I was compelled to write this one. I have been coming to this dental office for a few years now and it is about time I express my opinion. As much as we all dread going to the dentist, I actually look forward to my visits here. The dentist and staff are always so nice and friendly. They know me by name and always greet me with such warmth. They always take me right on time and always try to accommodate my schedule.

I usually hate going to the dentist but Dr. Nguyen changed my views about dental visits. He was very professional and explained everything very thoroughly. I had some fillings done and I felt absolutely no pain. He was very gentle and the process was really fast. I’m no longer afraid to go to the dentist :) I would definitely recommended Radiance Dental to my friends and family.

Here is an update. I stopped going to this dentist. I went in for a cleaning an early morning appointment. The dentist was 45 minutes late. So I was late for work. Then the dentist looked at my teeth picked at them and then handed me over to the assistant to finish? Why did I wait 45 minutes for that? Then the assistant didn’t know what she was doing. She sprayed me all over with the water and filled my mouth up to much that it over filled and poured out all over my clothes. Did I mention I was going straight to work after? Ya so I was pretty upset. Changed dentists right away. The main Dentist here is awesome, but the other ones I wasn’t happy with.
