Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a great roller coaster. Don’t leave Disneyland without riding it at least once.

Fun roller coaster ride, one of the best in the park. The theme of canyons and overhangs enhances the thrill of the ride. No matter how many times I do this ride, I can’t force myself to keep my hands up all the way, for fear that some rock or something is going to tear my hands off. I rationally know it is safe, but the sensation is that you are too close for comfort. It really gets your heart going!

Out of all the «extreme» rides at Disney land this has the shortest wait. It is personally one of my favorite rides there.

I love all the new additions they made to the ride! The mixture of riding in tunnels and caves makes the ride exciting. It’s mild enough for little kids and entertaining enough for teenagers. Don’t forget to throw a coin into the pond while you’re waiting in line!

One of the best rides at Disneyland! They’ve had it around for years, and even after some problems, this made a come back and still rocks!
Definitely worth the trip to come to this little corner for the ride. Make sure you get fast passes if you want, and want to avoid a long wait in the sun.

Hop on the I.M. Loco for the wildest ride in the west! Riding this coaster with my kids brings back the nostalgia of my childhood. They’ve improved it a lot. It’s a great first roller coaster for kids. The line mostly moves quickly but we always get a fast pass. You’ll love it-​waterfalls, bats, dynamite, animals.
And don’t forget to hold onto your hats!

This ride is located right across the splash mountain ride so you can’t miss it. I do agree with other reviewers that the ride use to be a lot more uncomfortable to ride being that it was super bumpy. The ride since then has been upgraded and the ride is much smoother to ride. The ride is basically a fast roller coaster in the shape of train with sudden turns and drops, which is a lot of fun. The ride does provide a fast pass which is great because even though the line does go fast there is still a bit of a wait. If you get a fast pass you can go ride splash mountain of if you just came from splash mountain this is a great way to dry off with how fast the ride can go. This is definitely one of those rides that you should ride during the day and at night because of the lights that come associated with this ride!

Yes it thrills but it is safe enough to take an 8 year old on.
This ride is actually better after sunset (when it is dark) for some reason… hint hint.

One of my favorite ride.
The line can be long but they offer fastpass. This is a high speed railroad ride that has fast turns and sudden dips.
The special effects and décor made the ride much more entertaining.

Wildest ride in the wilderness with a fast moving line! Big Thunder is a staple at Disneyland and my favorite part is going around the bend and staring at the goat on the cliff. Just try it. Definitely a must see attraction inside Disneyland!

As a kid, I had several pet desert tortoises, placed in my care by a lady associated with the SoCal turtle & tortoise club… So no, it wasn’t a federal offense.
I only mention this to illustrate that about the same time in my life, I could only stomach going on this «scary ride» to see the fake, animatronic desert tortoises at the top of the hill before the big drop. A minor incentive, but really, it worked so whatever worked, right?
As I got older, the thrills, chills and spills softened a bit; the noticeable delay at the top of the hill if you get stuck in the front (as the rest of the train goes over the top), the optical illusion of the old crumbled track in the perpetual cave-​in, the paleontological impossibility of a fossilized T. rex skeleton maintaining enough cellular cohesion to allow the ossified bones to stick together forming a tunnel for a rumbling mine train… Ok, maybe I’m over-​thinking it. Dick Cook told me I needed to let go and suspend disbelief a little bit if I wanted to make it working for Buena Vista (I lasted three months.)
The recent improvements to the ride are fun! While they seem completely cosmetic and diegetic, they certainly add to the story. My favorite additions are the fuse lines burning up as you head into the red lighted mine. Very clever, and definitely makes the ride better.
On our most recent trip, a friendly tabby cat made an appearance at night in the line for Thunder Mountain, much to the delight of patrons. Fun fact: there are estimated to be between 100 and 200 feral cats living at Disneyland. Allegedly, the resort doesn’t mind, as they help keep the rodent population under control. Sure, that’s gross, but inventive I suppose. Chalk up another victory for the Disney Synergy!

This is one my son’s favorite rides. We’re so glad this ride won’t be closing in January during the park’s construction.
Although we hadn’t been on the ride before it’s refurbishment back in 2013, the improvements since include a smoother train ride and some cool new effects.
We like that this ride is fast, has some really exciting turns, and a fun explosion in the mining tunnel. My son also loves the western theme of this ride as well.
This ride tends to have really long lines so if we have a Fastpass, we’ll use it on this ride.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is the best wild ride in Frontierland!

Big Thunder is a three-​star metal coaster that races mostly through Frontierland foliage. If there’s a long line for it, go to another ride with a longer line and wait there instead.
Below is my review of Disneyland Railroad, which until recently had a vibrant page of reviews and pix that have been dumped inexplicably into this page. It is now also posted as the second review of DRR’s newly established page.
Just the way City of Industry’s Golden Corral reviews were permanently dumped into a new Las Vegas franchisee’s page (Lamb Boulevard) early last year, I’m confident this won’t be corrected. Truly another Website SMH moment.

I don’t know why, but I hear that this ride breaks down a lot. Or maybe it did. Three years ago: P
I don’t know the story about it now. Located in Frontierland, Big Thunder brings you back to the old Western, where you have sarsaparilla and cowboy hats and such. This ride gives you a view at its apex, but if I remember correctly, this ride has a certain animal. Look for it.
There was about a 25 – 30 minute wait after the fireworks show (around 9.45pm) I believe that was the time. The ride itself goes at a medium speed and you have to get used to it because this is a hootin’ tootin’ train: D

Zip-​a-​dee-​doo-​dah Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is off the tracks fun! I’m SOOO sad that it’s closing permanently for construction of Star Wars Land! It’s been my favorite nostalgia ride since I was, like, 40″ or whatever the height cutoff is, and Disneyland is slaying (not in a good way) my childhood by closing this ride! BTMR is part of Walt’s original vision for the park, and it upsets me that it’s being upended and bulldozed. *tear* BUT, if you happen to hit up Disneyland between now and January 11^th, GO ON THIS RIDE! Even if you don’t care if it’s going bye-​bye, you can always tell your future kids/​grandkids that you went on an extinct ride.
Anywho, the line for the ride snakes back and forth, pretty much in the open sun, until you hit the main entrance. Usually it’s not long of a wait (less than 40 min) so suck it up and go. I wouldn’t say it’s worth it to get a FastPass for this one. What I love about the ride is how non-​animated it is. There are no weird animatronic animals, fancy special effects or song-​and-​dance fluff, it’s just you on a wild, out of control train. Reminisce about the golden age of American Westerns and don’t forget to hoot and holler as you go ’round those turns!

Great!!! This is a thrilling ride for most ages. No upside down action, but great fast-​paced and quick turning on rails. Designed as old western mining camp and cavernous drops, we loved this ride!

One of the big bad iconic mountains of disneyland. It’s kind of a big deal!
I find the the wait time for Big Thunder to be relatively shorter compared to the other mountains. But that, in no way, makes this mountain any less special. Go ahead and score yourself a fast pass to hop your way to the front! You’ll find this ride to be especially memorable now that they’ve completed their renovations: D
FYI The flame throwers are merely projections cast on mist of water. You will NOT spontaneously combust if you feel some moisture. I only say this because my friend was freaking out when he felt some «propane» droplets hit his face… Oddly enough, he was rather upset when I told him the truth. Said I took away some of that disney magic.

With a few exceptions, I love the classic roller coasters at Disneyland! Brings back childhood memories and even as an adult, they are still fun.
The new tracks on Thunder Mountain make all the difference! Ride is smooth and not rickety at all anymore. Lots of fast turns and dips that keep the ride really fun! No detail is left unthought of through the ride — from the desert animals throughout, to the explosive room.
Line moves pretty quick, but get a fast pass and you’ll be on in under 10 mins.
Love that you can sit up to 3 people in one cart.

I think this is my second favorite ride in Disneyland. I love how fast-​paced this ride is. It’s a gentler roller coaster that still makes me squeal and throw my hands up the whole time. I always want to ride this ride twice!
The lines aren’t as horrible as some of the other rides but I still recommend a fast pass if they’re available!

Yee Haw!!! All aboard! Ready to ride the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad? Hold onto your hats because this train is fast! Definitely one of my favorite rides here at Disneyland and it’s located in Frontierland. This ride is popular so wait times can be high but at least there is Fastpass.
It’s all about speed on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. This ride doesn’t have any huge drops but plenty of turns. The surroundings really makes the experience a fun one. With a wild west theme and music to go along with the ride, it gets your heart going and builds up the excitement. What a rush!

Good ride! My 8 year old little girl loves this ride & one of the few roller coaster rides she will get on! It’s a good ride for kids & they won’t cry & pee or throw up on you. And it has a pretty good length time in it. And the line here for the most part moves fast & within 30 min which is good. It’s a good ride to get on right away it’s a good pick me upper for you & the kids.
Me & my little girl always get on here twice & well worth it. It’s a good ride to bond with you’re little one & they can look at you like a hero cuz they be holding on to you very tight scared a little. But at the end they will love it & they will drag you to it and you can act tough & be there Super Man at the end by holding on to them. Oh & take off you’re hat the guy in front of me lost his hat & almost cried, it was a Raider hat so it made me smile, I hate the Raiders :) But yeah take off you’re hat before getting on a ride.
