Arigato is the best Sushi in Amherst. The staff is friendly and the dining room is quiet and peaceful. I often dine-in for lunch, or do takeout, but I have also had dinner here. Miso soup is very good. Tempura is light and fluffy like it should be, They have amazing maki rolls like the Amherst roll, the Jon roll, the UMass roll and the Philadelphia roll(cream cheese with smoked salmon and scallions… yum!). The prices are very reasonable and the service is fast.

In a small town in the middle of Massachusetts I was not anticipating coming across a great sushi joint. With efficient, caring service and fresh seafood, Arigato Sushi gets 4 stars in my book. We shared the Bento box, with teriyaki chicken on a tasty bed of sautéed vegetables, crispy and light tempura shrimp and veggies, and a nice fresh California roll. Additionally we added the Hawaiian roll, a fresh tuna and avocado roll topped with a sweet eel sauce. As I always say, a tasty sauce makes a good meal great. Overall very positive experience at Arigato Sushi– while it’s no bay side San Francisco fish house, it definitely does the job for an ocean deprived college girl.

We were freezing and waiting for a movie to start across the street. This restaurant beckoned. We were seated right away at a table of our choice. H ordered tempura appetizer which came with two shrimp and five veggies. I had bento box A, substituting tuna roll for Cali roll at no charge. We also had hot sake and green tea. Food and drinks came quickly. The food was terrific. I wasn’t a fan of the small green salad which was smothered with dressing that did not have much flavor. The miso soup was hot but nothing special. However the food was outstanding. Tempura was not greasy or soggy – perfectly flash fried. Bento box shumai and teriyaki were generous and well cooked with lots of flavor. Reasonable prices for a lot of very good food and fine service.

Wonderful food with efficient service. The Miso soup was delicious and hot. Tomago and vegetable rolls were prepared perfectly and the seaweed salad was the best ever. Busy, but moderately fast and definitely moderately priced. A great night out!

We got an excellent seaweed salad and two delicious rolls of sushi. Portions were quite big and more than enough. Great evening.

The food was just okay, but the service was horrible: Four of us were seated at 6:00, but our orders weren’t taken until 6:30, Around 7, our soup/salad was brought out. At 7:30, a server seeing our distress, asked if we were ready for our check. Honestly, we just about were – but our meals had not yet arrived. At 7:50 three of us got our meals, which we just about finished by the time the 4th meal was delivered at 8:15. Arrrgh! Sadly, I still left a tip – but I wish I hadn’t. They SHOILD have comped part of our meal, but they didn’t. We will never be eating there again.

Decided to give this place a shot since I was hungry and looking for takeout. Placed an order for one of their boxes to go which came with 6 pieces of sashimi, 3 pieces of sushi, miso soup, rice, Chilean sea bass and some deep fried components. The sushi and sashimi were great; fish tasted fresh and delicious. The Chilean sea bass wasn’t for me and the fried components were soggy. I ended up paying over $ 20 and really only ate the sushi sashimi and miso soup. I would definitely go again but next time I would just get raw dishes! Also, from what I saw the restaurant was tastefully decorated and there were many diners which is definitely a good sign.

I love Arigato. Whether ordering to take out or staying in, they are flexible and friendly with their services and their staff is very attentive. I always come here for sushi– any of their awesome rolls with some soup make for an amazing meal when you’re like me and need something quick and relatively healthy at the end of a long work day. Everything tastes fresh and I find myself comparing other sushi places to this one for general freshness. My fiancé enjoys their larger meals and a few times we’ve been able to sit in to snag their great lunch deals. I’ve had plenty of Asian cuisine and can definitely say that this place is yummy. It is a nice place for a casual lunch with friends or co-workers!

I try to visit all the sushi places in the Happy Valley. I had the Sushi/Sashimi Lunch Special. I was very impressed by the quality of the fish, the aesthetic presentation, and the value(low price). The lunch special came with miso soup and a small salad. Everything was freshly prepared and tasted real good to me. The service was attentive, not overbearing or negligent. The atmosphere was pleasant and not loud. The place was clean as well. They must have a loyal volume of customers, because their prices were quite reasonable as compared to the Amherst downtown high rent district they are located in. I’ll definitely be back, and I’ll bring a friend as well.

Superb experience! Customer service was A+ and appreciated as most establishments are lacking now a days. The sushi was absolutely scrumptious and the best I’ve had in the pioneer valley. I had the special spicy tuna roll and it was perfect, great sauce, nice crunch, huge & had just what I love with tuna(onions, scallions & cucumber). Photos on the menu to avoid any confusion. This place is clean, sushi was creative with many options and order was promptly served. I live about 25 mins away but I will make the trip for my sushi! Price was on point as well. Overall A+ from a sushi addict!

This place is so good! The sashimi bowl is incredible. Having lived in Boston for ten years and coming back to Amherst, I didn’t think there was good sushi back here for some reason. I’m so glad I found this place!

Not addressing the food here because it doesn’t matter given the level of service. I’ve been here twice in the ~5 years since moving to the area. The first time, we waited a full 20 minutes to get our drinks and nearly 90 minutes to get *four* rolls of sushi. Four rolls, ninety minutes. Even if the restaurant were packed(it wasn’t), that is totally not justified. The food was a solid«meh»… certainly not worth the wait. The second time the service was so abysmal that my party was completely ignored by the wait staff for a full 30 minutes after being seated. Just… nothing. After 30 minutes, a waitress brought water and said she would be back to take our drink order. It was as though she expected we hadn’t made up our minds in the half hour waiting for her. So she leaves without taking our order and we wait some more. At the 45 minute mark most of our group were starting to feel unwell from hunger and we got up, left. We then walked down the street to Antonio’s and had some decent food in us within 5 minutes. Don’t come here unless you’re OK with waiting until you’re dizzy with hunger for mediocre quality food.

The teriyaki is really tasty! However, service has really been going down hill. They’re now closed every Sunday and for the second time, items of my order have been forgotten. This just in: found a hair in my entrée. I’ll be trying some other restaurants in the area, as their prices are simply too high for his kind of quality.

I’ve been going here for the past two years and I have been baffled with these other Unilocal reviews. I’m from Boston and have eaten at plenty of Asian restaurants. The service here is top notch. They’re really friendly and know the ins of outs of things here. Arigato is perfectly located in the center of downtown Amherst. I really dig the décor and if you ask the servers for recommendations they can really set you up with whatever you’re feeling that night. My advice is to utilize the service here. The price here is afforadable for sushi, and also if you come here for their lunch specials you’ll be walking out real happy with the value you’re getting here. My favorites: The salmon here is amazing, so I often get the Salmon Combo which comes with a soup and salad. If you aren’t that hungry I recommend the Philadelphia Roll. It’s alot of sushi for the price, and you get hefty cuts of sashimi placed on top. Box Combos If you want teriyaki chicken, shrimp, beef, of fish with a little bit of sushi, dumplings, and tempura vegetebles/shrimps then this is gonna be yo’ thing for sure. If you’re on a date I’d reccomend getting one of these and a fancy maki roll like the Fuji Roll. Korean Fried Chicken(KFC) I got this today, and it’s something they’re adding to the menu. It’s like 9 bucks for a small(good for 2) and 16 for a large or something(3 – 4). I bought the small and a bowl of rice, and it was more than enough. I like it more than Wingz and appreciate the fact that it’s made fresh unlike a lot of Chinese restaurants out here. In short this restaurant’s been around for a long time. I know they got some new chefs and ideas to revamp this places reputation. Give this place a try, and look forward to the new additions they’re making!

I’ve gone to Arigato 5+ times and I’ve never been disappointed. The sashimi is always fresh and delicious. The wait staff is also very nice and accommodating. I ordered the udon noodle soup and asked the waitress to put in shitaki mushrooms, which she did without hesitation. The atmosphere is cozy and casual. I’m confused why it doesn’t have more stars. I would say it’s one of the best sushi places in the area.

Very friendly staff and quick service. We got four different veggie rolls, and they were all delicious. We had to order a second one of the tofu tempura rolls! The only tea is a green tea, which I’m not usually fond of, but this one is nice and smoky – very satisfying. A very nice lunch for two for under $ 40.

A solid 4 star sushi place! Pretty cheap, delicious miso soup, probably my favorite miso soup ever in fact. They have really good rolls, and I’ve never been disappointed in any respect. It’s not amazingly and incredibly exceptional, but it is most definitely a 4 star sushi place. To be 5 star it would need nicer staff, better menus, nicer decorations, and better sushi. Solid.

I’ve been here twice. Once three years ago, once last week, so I think I can safely make a longitudinal assessment of Arigato’s quality. It smells like a dirty fishtank. That initially puts me on my toes at any new sushi place, but I’ve been to some great ones that still have a bit of a «fishy» smell, so I soldiered on. My second tipoff to the quality of the sushi should have been that over half the menu is tempura-fried and smothered in spicy mayo or eel sauce – unwisely, both times I made the choice to order nigiri and plain rolls. Service is astonishingly slow. It took nearly two hours to get an order of nigiri and a spicy tuna roll at my first visit. When your food does arrive, though, you’ll wish you were still waiting. Unseasoned, undercooked rice envelops recently frozen, still-watery cuts of completely tasteless, mealy fish. I watch as my meal condenses water onto my plate, forming a watery halo around globs of spicy mayo. I’d rather eat grocery store sushi. At least they season their rice. To disclaim, my vegetarian companion enjoyed her sushi. Maybe it’s better. I won’t be going back to try it.

Arigato is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. The service is extremely friendly; they really take care of you. The food is pretty good, especially the sushi. I HIGHLY recommend the«Rock ‘n Roll». Give Arigato a try; you won’t be disappointed!

Why all the hate for this place? We were visiting my son and wanted to go out for sushi. We did not feel like trekking to our usual place in Noho, so we decided to give this place a try. There was five of us so we had a nice sampling of the menu – Sweet Potato Roll — It was tempura roll so it was crispy. It was a bigger roll than I am used to at my regular joint but it was good. Shrimp Shumai — We asked for deep fried and while not my cup of tea, the person who ordered truly enjoyed it. Inari Roll — This traditional tofu roll was done well. Philly Roll — The ratio of salmon to cream cheese worked well but the roll was also larger than you might see somewhere else. Tofu Roll — I have never seen this kind of roll before but it is a tofu tempura roll with cucumber and a soy drizzle. I am not a traditional inari roll person, but the flavors of this roll were yummy. Cucumber roll — This is a traditional roll and my daughter’s favorite so it was devoured quickly. Hokigai — This surf clam and my husband’s favorite but whenever it is actually on the menu, most places don’t have it. This place did and did it well. Hand Roll — This is shrimp tempura hand roll. Dolsot BiBimBop — If you have never had this Korean dish, you are missing out. It is a hot pot of rice, meat of some kind, diced veggies and an egg on top. It comes out hot and you need to mix it all up quickly so the egg and rice cook up. Then you put a hot sauce on and gobble it up(maybe that part is just me). In other places, you usually get little dishes of various things like potato, cabbage, etc. They did not do that but it was not a deal breaker for me, it just would have been a nice touch. While most of us were stuffed, some of the kids had room for the fried ice cream and mango mochi. I am not sure what the previous person was talking about the mochi having no flavor. I did get to try one and it was mango yummy. This place is pricier than what we are used to but the rolls and serving are generally bigger than most places. All in all, I thought it was a good, yummy sushi experience and would not hesitate to come again.
