Jay’s Fine Burgers

I have taken my family to Jay’s twice and based on those trips here is my take on the place.
Jay’s is one of the new trends in upscale (high priced) hamburgers.
The patties are thin and only come well done. The burgers are a little on the salty side.
The fires are just OK.
Portions are small for the price. A tricked up burger with sides and a drink can put you at the $ 10 mark.
What we all loved was the deep fried green beans. This is what makes Jay’s stand out from other typical burger joints. The fried green beans are delicious and come with Ranch dressing for dipping.
If we are in the neighborhood we will stop back in.

Tough call on the rating here; let’s call it 3.5 stars. I have to echo two of the bigger complaints I see repeated often: The patties are thin and only available well done, and the prices are fairly high (chili cheeseburger and a small fries was almost $ 10). I also agree about the heavy salt; a little lighter there would be nice.
Having said all of that, my burger was pretty good. The chili was thick and tasty, and the cheese was melted well. Onions were fresh, kaiser roll was fresh. The fries are obviously from frozen, but were pretty good. Since I got take out, I didn’t spend a lot of time inside, but it did look nice.
Based strictly on value and the looks of that thin patty, this would have been a flat 3 star, but the taste boosts it an extra half.

I was disappointed to say the least, the burger was comparable to Wendy’s but add $ 5 to the price. There is def no ‘bang for the buck’ here, you pay for the atmosphere mainly, which frankly, isn’t that great, but that saved me from giving it a one star rating. That and the people are friendly, but if they want to stay afloat they should make some changes!!!

This joint is brand new so I thought I’d give it a try. The area competition is quite high (JC’s Burger House, Scotty P’s, Burger Island) so I came in with expectations. The restaurant is nice and clean on the inside. It has high quality furnishings and 4 large tv’s play some classic rock and roll videos. The lighting is subdued and there’s a cool Zoltar machine in the corner that reminds me of the movie ‘Big’.
My pager buzzed and I went to pick up my burger from the window. It was definitely tasty. The veggies and kaiser roll were very fresh. Though I thought the meat patty was too thin and the portion of fries was a bit skimpy for the price I paid. Perhaps their overhead is high given all the bells and whistles this place adorns.
This place has only been open for 4 weeks. I hope in the future they give their customers a little more volume for the price. If you’re a quality rather than quantity person, this place is 5 stars. Personally, I’d like more volume before I consider bumping up a couple stars.

I’m giving one star to get on the board… one more just to be fair; in short the prices here are WAY out of line. Over $ 26 for two burgers, fries and a kids meal? You must be kidding!!!
This place makes The Porch look like a good value (nothing against The Porch).
Free advice: go to Burger Island (Allen)!

Pro’s — very fresh ingredients, kaiser rolls for the sandwiches, clean dining area with new tables/​chairs, several big screen TV’s (with 60’s videos/​TV shows/​commercials), friendly (albeit green) staff.
Con’s — burgers only come one way (well done), cooked via the «smashed thin» method (I prefer thick burgers), everything had too much salt.
I found it odd they «splurged» on the big screens and nice tables/​chairs and cut corners on condiments and sodas (no name condiments and RC products for sodas). Having worked restaurants for years, I know that RC has the lowest cost of all the major soda manufacturers and is usually chosen when a budget is tight. They used prepackaged lemon juice instead of fresh lemons, which in and of itself is not bad, but it sure is nice to have lemon wedge in your sweet tea instead of trying to tear open one of those packets (which by the way, we very hard to tear… I had to use my teeth).
My wife ordered the mushroom Swiss burger and I ordered the blackened chicken. The sandwiches do not come with fries nor is there a combo option so we ordered a basket of fries to split. My wife did not like the smashed thin burger (we both prefer thick) and my chicken sandwich, while very fresh, was also very salty. The breast was split, making it very thin and hanging over edges of a tasty Kaiser roll.
The plastic cups were «green» meaning they were made from corn. Nice touch.
We felt that the $ 19 (with tax) we spent on two burgers, one order of fries, and one drink was a little high. We have gotten more food for the same money at Scotty P’s.
My wife and I both agreed on a 7/​out 10 rating. If you prefer a thin burger, then I sure you will like this place but if you like your burgers thick (Scotty P’s) then don’t waste your time.

This place is great. Very cute ‘60s theme, with TVs playing old shows & musical performances from this era. But the décor has nothing on the food. Best burger I have had in a long time, and the fries are awesome, too. The owners are local, which I love, and they have opened a great place. We’ll go back soon.

WOW, I am totally impressed with Jay’s Fine Burgers! This place has been remodeled from top to bottom no expense spared, 60’s/70’s music poster décor tastefully done. Nice larger screen TVs playing movies and shows from days gone by.
On to the important part… their food. My burger was freshly cooked to perfection with nothing but the freshest fixins on a kaiser roll (again fresh!)…am I over using the word fresh here? I regretted not ordering fries or cheddar fries but since it was my first experience I went for the basic drink and burger ($ 8.21 with tax) and worth every penny!
