Absolutely delicious order the phở with shrimp. Had just the right kick after adding some chili. Was hot and could tell fresh. This was my first time and I will definitely come back. Feeling sick and have a sore throat so soup is key. Was craving phở because of the delicious broth ! Definitely the better of the three spots I’ve tried in Alhambra!

Great spot! Prices are reasonable and certainly authentic. I’ve had phở in several different areas, and they seem to have their recipe perfected. Not salty, it’s rich and aromatic, and they don’t skimp on the toppings. Check it out.

I found myself comparing this place to Summer Rolls every time. You can tell that this is the spot for regulars and old timers, and the flow of customers never really stop. The waiters have very limited English, but I believe they speak Chinese and Vietnamese if that helps you guys any. Bf and I shared the nem nuon make-your-own spring rolls. I do like that we get more veggies than Summer Rolls, and it was kinda fun diving through the pile of greens and finding different herbs and random things. The meat itself is not as smooth or as flavorful as Summer Rolls, and I found myself wishing I was back there instead. We also ordered a beef spring roll, which was okay, but not nearly as tasty as the beef spring roll I get weekly from Golden Deli. Overall, the food wasn’t bad, but I kept finding myself wishing I was at other restaurants instead. The interior of the restaurant is clearly run down and looks a bit dirty, and the place is very small. Service was minimal, due to a language barrier. I’m going back to Summer Rolls and Golden Deli next time, sorry :\

I wanted some nem nuong since I haven’t had some in a while and this place looks perfect. I stopped by this small restaurant and ordered the 1&5(DIY spring rolls). The server told me that I had to roll them myself, which I am more than happy to do.(I’m a pro when it comes to twisting ;) The spring roll wrappers were of the mini-size, so I couldn’t roll the phatties that I usually do. The nem nuong was good, but nothing over the top. Overall, the generous amounts of greens, paired with the skinny fried shrimp egg rolls made for a satisfying meal. I think rolling the spring rolls myself made me feel more at home, thus made it more enjoyable. I recommend the experience of rolling them yourself, especially if you have never done so. Get some XP points!

Very standard Vietnamese fare. Nothing really to write home about. Their bun bo hue was a little bland to me. Maybe I’m just used to a spicier broth. Their banh beo was good, a lot of ground shrimp on top of each small plate. Their egg rolls are my favorite in the 626, it’s the crispy fries wonton wrapped type, not the speckle fried kind. Their filling is an excellent ratio of vermicelli, veggie and meat. Nem nuong Cuong was good, but I thought it needed a little thicker nem in it, and the peanut sauce could’ve been better. If you’re looking for a variety of viet food, I guess this place covers all your bases. If you have specific cravings, there’s a lot of other spots around the area.

Located in a plaza with check cashing, liquor store and water. Parking is very limited but you can park I the streets. For for amount of food we got, we really got a bang for our buck. Phở Dac biet, big portion to where you can share. The flavor of the broth is good and flavorful. Nem nuong rolls-meh I have had better, it really didn’t wow me. Eggrolls-has more glass noodles than meat inside of them. Banh beo-can’t really go wrong with these, generous amount. Fish sauce that came with it was good.

I’m always on the hunt for good nem nuong cuon and this place delivers in spades. They offer two varieties: basic grilled ground pork, or with shrimp in fried rolls(for added texture as well as shrimpy deliciousness!) Each order gets you 3 rolls. Starting at $ 3.50 per order, that’s the best deal I’ve been able to find on quality spring rolls so far! This is a mom and pop location, run by a friendly husband and wife duo. I’ve been here two times now and they’re always friendly, even to non-regulars. Contrary to other people’s experiences, I personally really like the phở here. The broth isn’t too oily and neither is it overly salty. Usually, at a majority of phở restaurants, I run into problems with having to chase my phở with water. Here, I can be confident that I’m not going to die from sodium overload, while still having comforting beefy soup. Be warned that the restaurant is in a busy location and the parking lot is tiny. Fight for that space, those cheap delicious spring rolls are waiting for you!

MYALLTIMEFAVORITEVIETNAMESERESTAURANT! Location/Parking: This is a very small restaurant in a small plaza. There is a parking lot, but it isn’t very big, so you may have to park on the street during peak hours. Service: The man and woman who are always there are ALWAYS so friendly! We always receive our food quickly and they are always very attentive. Food: — Bun bo Hue(Spicy noodle soup): THEBESTINTOWN! It comes with pork hock, beef, pork blood, and pork patties. It isn’t spicy at all to me, but it is SO flavorful! The noodles are cooked perfectly, not too soft and not too hard. — 1&5 special: It is a combo to make your own spring rolls. I like this special because it only has the pork patty for the meat. It is perfect for one person. It comes with shrimp rolls, lettuce, and veggies to make your own rolls. I love love love this! It comes with dipping sauce that is delicious, I don’t know how to explain it, you HAVE to try it! This is a MUST try! I will DEFINITELY be coming back! This is my go-to place for Vietnamese food! I hope this place stays around FOREVER!

The food was awesome today. We had the nem nuong and eggroll where we roll them up into spring rolls ourselves. The flavor was on point. The phở was good and comforting and the bun bo hue was good, not the best but still pretty good. The portions are very good for the price. I’ll keep coming back for the nem nuong spring rolls.

Love going to this little Viet spot for banh beo and nem nuong. They have an assortment of nem prepared various ways that I still have yet to try all. If you’re looking for an inexpensive mom-n-pop-shop with authentic flavor, this is the spot!

With a craving for phở and these Unilocal reviews at my finger tips, I had high expectations. I will say the service was delightful and all the people working there seemed lovely, and I hate to say this, but the food just wasn’t the greatest for me. I ordered #27 which is just traditional rare steak phở. Unfortunately, I found mine to be very very watered down. There seem to be barely any flavor — I felt embarrassed as I loaded up on lime, herbs and hoisin/sriracha with every bite. I will say they do give you a lot of noodles, but it didn’t help when I couldn’t taste the broth which is my favorite part. We also ordered the Bun Bo Hue #33. I was looking forward to this because I tried it in Vietnam, but the soup was just really watered down. It tasted like they might have accidentally added a lot of the water that they cooked the noodles in. The noodles also seemed overcooked and very soft. The soup was not very spicy like the menu read. We ordered the shredded pork spring rolls which were fine. CASHONLY!

This is a great hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese restaurant that has great menu and friendly service. I had originally planned on going to Golden Deli, but found out that it was closed today. Last minute decision to come here for lunch and the food did not disappoint. Both the cha gio egg rolls and com bo nuung(charbroiled beef /w steam rice) were terrific. The egg rolls arrived piping hot and were perfectly crisp. Good texture and flavor was presented to my taste buds. It was served with accompanying fresh vegetables(lettuce, sliced cucumber and cilantro) and a delicious sweet vinegar base sauce complimenting the egg rolls well. The charbroiled beef was lovely and very tasty. Surprisingly the beef was well marinated and tender. Not the best cut and quality, but still satisfying to the palette. It’s located on nondescript corner strip lot on Marengo Ave/Valley Blvd. No frills or fancy décor. You come mainly for the food which is incredibly fresh, tasty and authentic. Though cash only, the price is easy on the wallet and very affordable. The perfect lunch time option that I highly recommend you check out if you’re in Alhambra.

Early Mother’s Day Lunch — Part 1 — my brother’s wife treated us here. Small Vietnamese joint run and operated by a hubby and wife team. Old school Vietnamese décor that reminds me of eating in Saigon(even though I’ve never been to Vietnam other than what I’ve seen on the Travel Channel, lol) with about 10 tables. Located on the corner of Valley Blvd and Marengo Ave in Alhambra. Small parking lot, but street parking and this place gets packed pretty quickly by 12pm hits. We ordered the following items: Appetizers: #5: Five eggrolls with a side of veggies — pretty good — there’s actual meat inside and the eggrolls were crunchy without being too greasy. Comes with peanut dipping sauce and fish sauce mixed with dried ground up shrimp — delicious! #7: Banh Beo Chen Tom Choy — rice cake topped with crushed dried shrimp and a fried wonton skin. It was pretty good and not too extremely sticky. Served with their in house fish sauce. #8:(3) Flour wrapped rolls consisting of Charboiled meat balls with shrimp, veggies and vermicelli noodles. Pretty tasty and the flour wrapped roll stayed strong with all the filling inside and didn’t break. #13: Goi Cuon — 3 shrimp, pork and lettuce fillings wrapped in rice paper. Wasn’t my favorite with this one. Tasted pretty bland even with all the sauces. ENTREES: #20: That’s my dish — broken rice with charboiled pork chop with steamed egg and shredded pork with pickled carrots and cucumbers. The meat was tender and tasty as well as the shredded pork. The steamed egg was way too peppery for my taste and kinda chewy around the edges and the broken rice was mushy. No amount of fish sauce or peanut sauce helped. The veggies was a nice palate cleanser. My sister in law ordered the Bun Bo Hue — it’s a pretty big bowl, but was spicy. She was up for sharing it, but my mom, brother and I declined since it was too spicy. My mom and brother shared the Charboiled pork with eggrolls vermicelli noodles bowl and vermicelli noodles pork hock(feet) soup with pieces of fish in it. My mom liked the charboiled pork vermicelli noodles, but disliked the vermicelli noodles pork hock soup one. She said it was too bland and didn’t look appealing, and had my brother finish the rest of it. Overall, I was hesitant in wanting to eat Vietnamese food, but this place left me happy, energized and full. Service was quick, attentive and friendly. The meals were pretty big in portion and they came out fast. Served with ice tea(bro and I) and hot tea(Mom and sis in law) made for a nice start to Mother’s Day. We left happy and full to spend the rest of early Mother’s Day in Little Saigon — OC.

What’s in a name right? Well… Nem nuong are Vietnamese pork meatballs and Khanh Hoa is a province located at the southeast portion of Vietnam. So, you better get the nem nuong or you are just plain stupid. After dropping off our furbaby at Moochi Dog Salon( ), the wife and I decided to get our grub on at Nem Nuong Khanh Hoa(NNKH). Try saying that 5 times fast. NNKH is a small restaurant that has about ten tables. We were promptly seated and provided with menus. Then, literally 30 seconds later, the owner comes by and asks us what we would like to order! We literally LOL’d and asked for a little time. Due to the gloomy weather, the wife was craving soup so we ordered a phở tai. And of course we decided to order the nem nuong. Per the friendly owner’s suggestion, we got the combination #1 and #5(#1&5) known as nem nuong + cha ram tom. Again, try saying that 5 times fast. Anyways, the #1&5 consisted of phallic-shaped meatballs, pencil-thin deep-fried shrimp rolls, a shit ton of greens, and rice paper. Let me pause here and say that unlike traditional meatballs that are actually shaped like balls, Vietnamese meatballs are shaped like dongs that resemble lule kabob meat. The reason the meatballs are shaped like the shaft and not testes is because this makes rolling them into spring rolls a lot easier so that you can hurry up and put them in your mouth. Anyhow… So… the phở tai was okay and I would not recommend ordering this since there are much better places to get phở in the San Gabriel Valley. In hindsight, we should have ordered the popular bun bo hue(spicy beef soup with vermicelli) instead. But there is always next time, and there definitely will be a next time. After the phở tai came out, a bowl of warm water was brought to our table. The lady that brought the bowl of water did not utter a single word. Due to the«no restrooms for the public» sign on the wall, the wife and I thought that maybe it was to wash our hands with. Fortunately, the owner came in the nick of time to tell us that the warm water was for the rice paper to wrap the spring rolls with. HAHAHAHA. Totally mental farted. So the #1&5 comes out with about six pieces of meatballs and six pieces of deep-fried shrimp rolls, and a large plate of every possible veggie/herb that Vietnamese people eat. Lettuce, cucumbers, cilantro, sprouts, mint, purple basil(tia to), Vietnamese coriander, chives, and a side of pickled carrots/radish. If you order the #1&5 you build-your-own spring rolls. Try not to add too much of everything or else your spring roll will resemble a burrito! But yea, the texture of the chewy pork meatball and the crispy shrimp roll reminded me of Brodard’s. Almost. The dipping sauce was also excellent. At the end of the day, the wife and I really loved making our own spring rolls. While the phở was not the best, for a meal that was less than $ 20, we really cannot complain. So if you live in LA and don’t feel like driving to the OC, stop by NNKH to make your own poor man’s Brodard. Just remember that NNKH is CASHONLY!

Solid 4! This is my go to place in the San Gabriel valley for spring rolls. I absolutely love the Nem Nuong(pork) spring rolls. The crispy egg paper wrapped shrimp adds a nice crunch. The sauce it comes with is good… but no comparison to you-know-who’s… I love ordering these rolls for a light and filling lunch. The rice(com tam — broken rice) dishes are pretty good too. You can put whatever you want on them. I like the pork(thit nuong), shrimp paste(cha tom) and egg roll(cha gio). Good prices, good food, decent service. cash only! I’ll be back when I’m craving spring rolls!

Pretty good hole-in-the-wall place for Vietnamese food. Parking lot is a bit small but had no trouble at all around dinner time. I got the standard phở tai and spring rolls. Phở ain’t bad for $ 5.95, the both is not as heavy/greasy as some other places. They were very generous with the amount of vegetables(mung bean sprouts, onions, jalapeño slices) and even brought out an additional plate full of vegetables for us. Shrimp spring rolls were of pretty high quality as well. Will try the Bun Bo Hue and egg rolls the next time I come back. Remember, cash only like many Asian-run restaurants.
