Dr chew and staff are amazing. I was able to be seen right away Emma at the front is so helpful. I was so nervous and I had been in pain since Sunday it was wonderful to know I was gonna walk out of there problem free. Dr chew went over what needed to be done and everything went smoothly. He even cracked a few jokes which make you feel at ease :) As far as pain the shots sting just a bit but nothing you can’t handle now is recovery time which might be a little painful but I’ll take it being that my life can be back to normal after my wisdom teeth extractions.

No complaints at all! Great service. I needed two wisdom teeth pulled and my general dentist referred me to this guy. Appointment scheduling was easy, staff was nice, and office was clean and up to date. Dr. Chew pulled both teeth out in less than 5 minutes!

Can’t recommend this guy enough. He’s very pleasant. He makes it as painless as possible. He’s efficient but thorough. He talks to you while he’s tugging away at your teeth letting you know what he’s doing and keeping you in the loop. The worst pain was the injection of lidocaine. I’d go to this guy again in a heartbeat.

Very personable surgeon. Absolutely made me feel so much more comfortable in not being put under. Took around 15 minutes. Go to him!

I had to remove four wisdom teeth and was referred to Dr. Chew by my dentist.
I’m deathly afraid of needles and the dentist in general so i was really nervous. Guess Dr. Chew saw through that and assured me there wouldn’t be any problems. The assistants took a few x-​rays, doctor explained what had to be done and we got down to business. Dr. Chew was precise and took out four teeth under ten minutes. He was that fast. Best of all, it didn’t hurt one bit. I felt tugging like somebody pulling your shirt but no pain.
After the procedure, i was given an instruction sheet on what to do and what not to do, gauze pads and cotton balls and i was good to go. I had chipmunk cheeks for a few days but it went away with antibiotics.
Cash and debit card only. The clinic is the epitome of inconspicuous. In fact, i think it used to be a house so i suggest keeping your eyes peeled. If it weren’t for the sign out front, i would have easily passed it. There’s only a handful of parking spots in the back so i suggest getting here early.
I rather get all my teeth pulled by this guy. He’s amazing.

I went in this past Friday to get all of my wisdom teeth extracted. It was my first time there.
As a new patient I only filled out about 5 pages of paperwork (real basic questions)
I’d say I only waited about 5 – 7 minutes after turning in the paper work until they called me in.
Dr. Chew was extremely nice, and I was very nervous but he managed to ease the nerves away by cracking jokes, he’s very sweet.
He was very clear and thurow with what had to be done. He made sure I was on board with everything before any work was done. once we agreed with what was going to be done the Technician went over with me the co payment I would have to pay. (my insurance covered 80%) everything seemed fine, I payed my part and we were ready for my teeth to be pulled out.
I swear it took no longer than 5 – 7 minutes for it all to be done. He was describing everything he was doing so I wouldn’t be too worried about any scary sounds I would hear (ex. cracks, snaps). Once all 4 teeth were pulled out he stitched me right up and I was ready to leave.
I was so worried about the pain of them pulling out my teeth but I honestly felt nothing. It was a lot better than I had expected, especially after everyone’s stories or things you read online. It was nothing like that. no pain at all. the worse part was the tiny little sting from the shots they give to numb your mouth. but that little sting is VERY tolerable, not bad at all.
I will recommend everyone and anyone who needs to get oral surgery to Dr. Chew.

I love Dr. Chew! I didn’t realize the irony of his name until later.
It was the blanket that makes this place a 5. As they were preparing to remove my wisdom teeth right after my consultation (my first surgery!), they asked me if I was cold and covered me with a warm, plaid blanket before injecting the local anesthetic. The reassuring warmth and the staff’s gentle conversation calmed me as I was injected and the effects of the medication slowly sank in, which caused me to gag and begin hyperventilating as my heart rate increased. The staff immediately rushed to my side and held me by the shoulder, instructing me to breathe through my nose. I calmed down quickly and was able to undergo the procedure without an issue, with Dr. Chew narrating what was coming next so I could prepare for any pain or pressure.
Less than 15 minutes later, I sat in an armchair waiting for the bleeding to subside, my cheeks filled with gauze pads, and held onto the blanket. The assistants gave me careful instructions, making sure all my questions were answered before I left. I received a prescription for painkillers and antibiotics, as well as additional gauze pads and a sheet of instructions for self-​care. I later came in for a 2 minute follow-​up, and took a picture with the dentist (:
It was a good experience on many levels. The office and instrumentation is clean, the assistants kind, and the dentist personable and yes, slightly goofy and fun. But more than that, it was the blanket that cinched it for me– given unasked, it reminded me of home amidst the sterile backdrop of the clinic, and symbolizes the warm welcome I felt the entire time I was there.

In November, I was referred to Dr. George Chew by my sister to remove my wisdom teeth. It was advised by my dentist to remove all four but after Dr. Chew analyzed my x-​rays, he said I only needed to remove the bottom two (yay!).
I don’t have dental insurance, so it cost a little under $ 1,000 for the consultation and surgery. I was given an anesthetic shot on each side and could not feel a thing. Dr. Chew talked the whole time during the procedure to calm my nerves and let me know exactly what he was doing. I didn’t see the instruments but hearing all the drilling inside my mouth was a bit traumatizing. Dr. Chew does his best to make the experience as pleasant as possible. He’s kind of silly and goofy and shows it through his sense of humor. The entire procedure took less than 15-​minutes.
The office is very clean and sanitary. After my surgery, I was given medical supplies (cotton balls, bibs, etc.) in a little care package and sent on my way. I was prescribed pain relievers, which were awesome, worked like a charm, and gave me the best sleep.
Parking is available on the street, as well as in a lot behind the building.

This place is bullshit they call me two time and they didnt tell me that my insurance don’t work now. The girl didn’t seen nice too

I had my wisdom teeth extraction today, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for Dr. Chew. Not only did he take LESS THAN 10 mins to remove ALL 4 wisdom teeth, but he was sincere and caring. I felt no pain during the procedure to my surprise, and found only the administration of the local anesthetic to be the worst part. While individuals may find the paperwork to be difficult, everywhere else will be nearly the same; however, a doctor that is precise, and caring is much more valuable in my opinion. I STRONGLY STRONGLY recommend Doctor Chew!

I tried to find more detail about my son wisdom teeth extraction and the doctor was rude and he keep saying any more question so many times.
Do not come here find another doctor. If I can give zero star I will.

Technically, a fine oral surgeon. About a dozen teeth extracted and a couple other situations handled well among my friends and family. Good hands and I believe he can do whatever needs doing, fast and well.
But business-​wise, he needs a re-​orienting. Anyone wanting hairy details is welcome to contact me. Let’s just say it is my belief, after four experiences, that he plays every game possible to optimize his take, may be fee splitting with the labs, and will shamelessly guilt you into unnecessary and potentially harmful diagnostic imaging. Balk at anything, he will not so subtly tell you to go elsewhere.

The doctor is very nice and professional! It is as his promise, there is no pain at all. He said the surgery will be within twenty minutes. And he made it within 20 minutes. And after the surgery he makes sure everything is okay then let me go.

Best oral surgeon ever! He accepts medical too! Honestly I had 4 wisdom that needed to be taken out. One was impacted. I was sooooo nervous but honestly I shouldn’t have been. Only the numb shots were painful for a second. He literally took less than 15 mins for all 4 wisdom teeth!!! Yes less than 15 mins!!! It was like 1 – 2 mins wash tooth. He’s fucking amazing. I was dreading to remove my wisdom for the longest because my fear was the dentist. I wish I removed it earlier because now my bottom teeth at crooked. I high recommend him and don’t be scared!!! You’re in the best hands! No pain at all!

This review is for the consultation of wisdom teeth extraction. I decided find another oral surgeon somewhere else.
I have called a few times to follow up to see if they accept my insurance. The reception said she’ll call me back once she found out, but never did. When they finally confirmed the would accept my insurance, I had to wait for a month for Dr. Chew’s appointment. Since he seems to be the highest rated oral surgeon in my area, I waited patiently.
I went in today and the whole process was sort of confusing. He seems to have a lot of staff (I saw 5) but none doing much. When Dr. Chew came into the room, two other assistants are leaning on the door across the hallway just looking at me. The doctor said I’ll need to take an x-​ray and walked out. I waited in the room patiently and another assistant came to the door and stood there. After a few seconds I asked «Should I go somewhere else for the X-​ray?» She said yes, over there. Hmm… okay you could have told me.
The doctor didn’t give me enough advices in terms of my long term dental health. I asked him whether I should take out all four wisdom teeth together or can I wait until later for the other two. He said, it’s up to you. So I continued to ask if I were to only take out two for now, will there be any issues since two teeth will be biting down to bare gum. He said, possible. So I asked if certain procedures are covered in my insurance (which I understand will be left to the staff to answer me), he said No idea and walked out. I guess Dr. Chew does too many extractions every day this is a simple «you want to do it or not» problem.
American dentists are divided into all these different specialties and an individual will need to go to multiple dentists for different issues (oral surgeon, endodontist, orthodontist, periodontist, etc), I want to be selective of who I choose to work on my teeth instead of treating it as an isolated procedure.
Anyways, the staff doesn’t seem to be helpful and the whole vibe is just kind of weird. Dr. Chew may be an excellent oral surgeon, but I decided to try someone else.

Had my bottom wisdom teeth taken out here when I was 18. That procedure was fast and easy. Pain and taking care of it afterward was lame but it’s inevitable. Whatever.
The main reason why I hate going here is because of their service. Every single person there is rude or gives off the vibe that they don’t want to be there, including the main dentist or whatever, George. All the assistants aren’t welcoming, sort of keep to themselves, and aren’t interested in talking to you.
First time going there for my first wisdom teeth procedure: the male nurse guy said something really mean to me. I honestly can’t remember what he said because this was over a year ago, but I remember being very angry because of it.
Going back a year later, 2÷11÷15: I spoke to one of the assistants about why they were going to charge for an x-​ray when I have insurance that should cover it and she explained my situation in such a low voice I couldn’t hear shit, so I kept repeating «what? I’m sorry, I can’t hear you» and her tone became more annoyed with me even though I was 10x more annoyed of her for being that way and talking so damn quietly.
Anyway, all the workers clearly don’t want to be there or deal with people even though that’s like 100% of their job. That’s pretty horrible for a place that no patient wants to come to in the first place. I hate going to the dentist and would like to be cheered up by happy people you know?
Needa add another thing: it took me 2 months to plan my appointment with them. Waste of time because I left since they wanted to charge me for an xray that should’ve been covered.
So to conclude this review, I found another place to get my top wisdom teeth out. Never coming back here again.

I consider Dr. Chew to be at or ABOVE Genius Level !!!

I was referred to Dr. Chew by outstanding Northeast L.A. DDS William Lewzcuk — both Dr. Lewczuk and Dr. Chew are dentists/​oral surgeons-​of-​choice at Optimist Boys’ Home.
Quotation from «Dr. William,» as we know him in Northeast L.A.:
«Dr. Chew IS fabulous — he’s is as-​good-​as-​it-​gets, and you’d be very, VERY lucky if it’s Dr. Chew performing this particular oral surgery — it’d be an easy one to screw up, do everything you can to line the stars up on this one.»
Meaning my insurance and co-​pays synching up with Dr. Chew’s practice.
Fortunately and I do mean FORTUNATELY — it all clicked.
Dr. Chew’s office is in a beautiful stretch and area — convenient to everything — I came by way of both the 210 E and 2 South — it’s near Costco’s in Alhambra FYI.
It’s off of one of my favorite streets, Huntington Drive Blvd. — Dr. Chew can be easily reached for those of you in South Pas, Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley — Northeast Los Angeles, etc.
If Dr. Chew was in EGYPT, my advice to you would be get on any plane out of Tom Bradley/​LAX and GET TO HIM.
He’s that good, he’s in a league by himself.
Modest-​to-​a-​fault, great office demeanor and attitude — great staff — everything is explained.
Wonderful, wonderful experience — from the moment I called for an appointment to the consultation last Friday to today’s extraction.
He wants feedback, he asks you for feedback, he allows you to voice concerns and talk — and he LISTENS.
–Any idea how HARD that is with Oral Surgeons, in general???
This office is modestly lit for patient comfort, clean as a whistle, beyond comfortable, you’ll think you’re in own living room and there’s a fish-​bowl!

Dr. Chew gave me just enough Novocaine so that I felt nothing — just a pinch or two from the injection.
My comfort was upper-​most, was that too much water (to clean out the area he was working on) — was the noise okay with me (from the high-​speed drill)?
Let Dr. Chew know if there was anything he could do to make this an even better office experience/​extraction.
He spoke to me at length prior to the actual wisdom tooth extraction — he made certain I was comfortable, settled-​in, settled-​down.
He had a sense I was terrified going in — like you oral surgeons and surgery, injections, drills, trays and tools scare the heck outta me!
Thus spent EXTRA time making certain I was ready.
The kindness, the consideration and the patience were beyond anything I’ve ever experienced from an Oral Surgeon or Dentist.
In fact from any doctor or surgeon I’ve ever been to — Dr. Chew rules the roost.
And it’s what I’ve come to expect out of both Dr. Chew and referring dentist Dr. William Lewzcuk in Northeast Los Angeles.
I consider these two the «Batman and Robin,» or «Superman/​Ironman» of CA dentists, and I’m disappointed I can’t give both MORE than five stars.
You will never, ever, have a better oral surgeon than George K. Chew, M.D.

I recommend Dr. Chew!
Parking: They have a mini parking lot in the back, but I suggest you park on Linda Vista Ave. It has street cleaning on Wednesdays (one side is 8 – 11 and another is noon-​2).
Pointers and Experience: The facility isn’t as clean or bright as a updated office but it works. Call and make the appointment, have your dental insurance information ready so you can tell the staff over the phone. Call 1 week before you get to your appointment to ask about the coverage of your insurance. Make sure you go a bit early on the day of because if you’re a first timer, you’ll be filling out lots of paperwork.
I had an 8:15am appointment, was seated and seen by Dr. Chew around 8:25am. He only speaks English, after speaking to me about my visit, I went to get a full x-​ray. I liked the Xray because I didn’t have to bite films, it was a giant probe that scans your mouth. (Make sure you take off your necklace, etc). After the x-​ray, Dr. Chew came by and looked at the x-​ray with me and discussed what we should do. He suggested to remove my bottom two wisdom teeth via local anesthesia. I was freaking out but he was really nice and tried to distract me by asking about my profession. After he poked my gums ~4−5 times on each side, he even sat with me in the office to just tell me stories. He started to work on my teeth after ~10 minutes. He explained everything and mentioned that my wisdom teeth are interesting because they weren’t budging. I’ve read other reviews and noticed that some people had an easier time (like 1 – 2 minutes each tooth), but it took around 5 minutes per tooth for me. Relatively, fast I’d say. He stitched me up, and the assistant gauzed me. I then walked into the resting room where I was given instructions.
Pain: It didn’t hurt, obviously when he was extracting my teeth, but I got home and after 5 hours, I felt my gums pulsing with intense pain. Luckily, Dr. Chew prescribed me some pain killers + codeine and also some antibiotics because I also started a fever. I had pain, fever, plus puffiness in the first day, discomfort+ fever the 2^nd day, and no pain but puffy cheeks from day 3 – 6. Make sure you gargle!
Follow up appointment: I went back for my follow up appointment today, literally took 1 minute. Dr. Chew checked out my gums and told me that it looks good. I told him that I still feel tightness and scar tissue, and he said it was normal. I’m starting to get full mouth movement again.
I highly recommend Dr. Chew, it cost me $ 636 to extract two teeth, he also charged me the minimal price for tooth extraction.

I had my follow-​up appointment the Friday (6/6/2014…D-Day) after my surgery. I had all four teeth removed: top two straight molars, bottom two impacted molars. The latter two had to be surgically cut and removed. Because of all the stuff I’ve been reading on the Interweb about dry socket infection, especially with the risks higher on those who had impacted teeth removal, I played it extra safe the whole week. The last thing I’d want is a dry socket infection, which can last anywhere from a week to a month and a half. I heard the pain is excruciating and barely tolerable, that even pain killers might not even do the trick. Therefore, I followed all the instructions the office gave me for care.
Seriously, I am so sick of porridge, jello and yogurt.
Throughout the week, I felt something weird in the area where the bottom molars were extracted. I wasn’t sure if those were just mouth sores or an actual infection, so I just continued to play it safe with my diet so not to get food particles stuck in the wound.
Friday came around and I had an 8:15AM appointment. I arrived at 8:30AM. I waited a minute and I went in and talked to Dr. Chew. Yea… not sure what others have been saying about wait times here. It’s already my third visit and I barely sit long enough to warm my chair.
Turns out, I developed mouth sores in the wound area. Whew… so afraid it was an infection. He told me it was normal then he went on about mouth sores and that there’s no medical explanation just yet as to how mouth sores develop. Again on this, Dr. Chew seemed like he had all the time in the world, telling me these stories. I really don’t get where people see that he’s unfriendly. Though it was early in the morning, there were 2 – 3 other patients so this is definitely not one of those «Oh. He only talks so much because you’re the only patient there so early in the morning» scenarios.
He even half-​jokingly told me I can put topical steroid on the mouth sores since he said it works. I told him that I thought it might’ve been infection so I stuck to a soft-​to-​liquid diet. He told me to not torture myself and just eat! Haha. This guy has a sense of humor.
After about five minutes, I was out the door and on my way to work.
After three visits, I can say that this place is superb. The prices are affordable whether with insurance or out of pocket, in my opinion. Dr. Chew is a terrific surgeon. He removed all four of my wisdom teeth in less than 20 minutes. As long as you follow the care instructions, you’ll be fine. Now my wounds are on schedule with healing.
