History

Established in 2005.

Nature’s Nibbles was started when Chris and Anne’s dog Gypsy suffered from skin ailments. After doing research on commercial pet food, they quickly learned the truth about what we’ve all been feeding our furry children. Nature’s Nibbles opened, online, as a part time, business. It quickly grew when the news that commercial pet food, made in China, was contaminated with melamine and was harming, even killing our pets.

I went in today to get some advice for my cockapooh that seems to itch all the time. The owner Chris spend at least 15 minutes talking to me about the different feeding options for my dog and pricing etc. he suggested several different options for feeding and recommended that I switch her to a grain free diet and add some probiotics in which I am going to do. I will definitely continue to purchase my dog food from natures nibbles and recommend him to other pet owners.

This place is amazing. If you own a dog or cat you must come here! Today was my first time there. The owner Chris greeted me, walked me around the store to describe all of the options for my dog and was super knowledgeable. And if that wasn’t enough, they offer dog baths, full refunds if your key wasn’t a fan of the purchase, and ten percent off for new customers! Oh and they deliver?! Love this place.

These guys are fantastic! Not only are they the only ones who had the specialized food I needed in stock, the owner (Chris) took pity on the fact that I couldn’t get to the store until the next day and delivered the items to my door himself! I’m pretty sure it was on his way home, but still. who does that? So awesome!
The price for my food was very reasonable, which was a nice surprise. Comparable to the best online price I’ve found. I had a brief conversation with Chris about feline nutrition, and he seemed extremely knowledgeable so I’ll be consulting with him regularly about my kitties’ dietary needs. I’m so glad to have found this valuable resource in the Old Town/Del Ray area.

I love Nature’s Nibbles. The employees are always helpful and knowledgable about the products they sell, and those products are top-notch quality. Prices are lower than Pro Feed (where I was going before) and it’s very convenient to me.
I’m a little annoyed FOR them that another local pet store opened up about three blocks up Mt Vernon and I hope it doesn’t affect their business.
Oh, and they deliver! I’ve only used that service once when I was really sick and totally out of cat food, but it’s nice to know it’s available.

I just popped into this store because I see they carry raw cat food. The man behind the counter greeted me, stopped what he was doing and showed me what they had in stock.
Great customer service! I hate when staff in shops treat you as an annoyance and couldn’t be bothered with you.
He gave me 10% off as I was a new customer :)

Went in searching for some healthier food for my cat and the owner was there. He helped me by letting me know which foods are healthiest, and how to best establish my cat on a healthy diet. Very, very helpful and knowledgeable customer service with a good selection of food — lots of cat foods I hadn’t even heard of while researching healthier alternatives to the major brands. Very pleased!

I’ve been getting dog and cat food from NN for about 2 years now. Chris is extremely knowledgeable about the products he sells and has helped me select foods appropriate for my pets. Additionally, he and NN are very easy to work with. They provide free local delivery, which takes one chore off my list. Also, when I happen to run out «mid-cycle» between deliveries, Chris will have food brought by for me. This is the kind of customer service that keeps me using NN as my pet food supplier! Are the prices a little higher than PetSmart? In some cases, yes, but I feel the extra cost is justified bc of the convenience, quality, and customer service. I attribute in part the continued excellent health of my 13.5-yo Pit Bull to the high quality food he eats. As I was posting this, I saw two negative reviews and I want to address those. One was about a walk-in customer being «guilted» into buying food and another about an early closure that inconvenienced the poster. First, for «newbies,» I would recommend asking for a consult with Chris himself to help choose the right food for your pet rather than relying on sales staff. I believe most of them are likely knowledgeable, too, but Chris is the expert and if you have concerns with adding the additional cost to your budget, it would be worth your time. About the 1-star review bc of being turned away from the dog bath, I can’t understand giving such a review based on one non-food-related incident. This is something that could have been raised with Chris, not something to post unless Chris wouldn’t resolve it. I’m sure that person hadn’t previously posted a 5-star review. People who do nothing but complain really don’t add anything to the discussion. It’s just easier to put up a complaint in an open forum, I guess! Bottom line — if you want a wide selection of high-quality dog and cat food, and want to added convenience of free home delivery, NN is the right place to go.

This is a great little neighborhood store if you need specialty dog food. Their supplies of toys and doggie sleep pads is somewhat limited, especially for larger breeds. My dog took me in there the other day (they had the door open), and the lady who was working, I think had good intentions, but proceeded to quiz me over which food I fed my dog and then launched into a dissertation in a very guilt-induced way of why that was awful food for my dog. Like I said, I do think her intentions were good but she did it in such a way that basically was saying (in a passive-aggressive manner) that I was a horrible dog owner. She did give me a free sample of a food she thought my dog would like. So, would I shop there? I suppose, but their customer service needs to improve.

What a gem of a local, small business: knowledgable, reasonably priced for the products (even compared somethings on Amazon), hours are convenient, and the most importantly customer service is top notch. The free samples of a food that helped my dogs’ tummy issues turned into an online order. They do local DC delivery; I was in a pinch and they rushed the free delivery for me. Highly recommend this shop.

I’ve been coming here for years. Both of my dogs had separate issues, stomach issues for one and dry coat with another. Both have had their issues resolved since switching to these healthier foods.
It still took some trial and error to find the right brands and flavors that worked best for them, but I got great advice along the way.
The only thing I see for improvement is perhaps enhancing their inventory with more dog and cat toys— it’s very limited. The prices are pretty high compared to regular dog food, but it’s worth it to resolve health issues. Overall it’s a great place to shop for my furry children.

A great place to get dog food and cat food. If my animals didn’t like the taste, return it, get credit or a refund. My cat has kidney disease and thyroid problems and the vet wanted to put him on special prescription kidney food. One problem: cat refused to eat it. After going to Nature’s Nibbles, Chris helped guide me into grain free food for my kitty and as a result, my kitty’s health/blood tests are stable (under the circumstances) and he’s lived about 2 years longer than I thought he would (and counting). I bought my dog’s food here too until my senior little guy finally passed. Chris was exceptionally sympathetic and I returned the remaining food and he converted it to store credit that I could use to continue to feed my cat. If you buy in bulk, you get a 10% discount.
They also carry raw foods and toys, bedding, treats, and supplements.
Honestly, I love supporting a local business, too. I still have to get kitty litter elsewhere because the natural stuff doesn’t fly with my cat. But it’s a great business. I wish parking in the neighborhood was better though.

This shop is the epitome of a local business that does everything it can to make its customers happy. They are friendly, helpful, and will always do what they can to help you out in a pinch. They’ve come through for me when I’ve totally spaced and need more food or litter for my pets, like *today* — pretty much a lifesaver, that.
They deliver for free in the local area (which is awesome). You’re going to pay more for the food at this shop, but you’re getting high quality products (and the pricing is consistent with other shops that sell these products).
They’re customer focused and support the local community. I can’t recommend them enough.

Great little place that has an outdoor do it yourself dog wash standing tub. They even supply the shampoo and towels for you! For $ 10, it was worth the drive over there and the lady in the shop was really nice!

We get all of our dog food at Nature’s Nibbles and appreciate the expertise of the owners, Chris and Anne. They are very knowledgeable about dogs (and cats) and will give you sound advice if you are having issues. They offer a dog washing station outside in the warmer months and even deliver in the immediate area. This is a very customer-centered business.

I’ve been ordering my food from Nature’s Nibbles since I moved back to the DC area from Brooklyn in 2008. I did research as to which stores carried my brand of holistic cat food and their prices, and Nature’s Nibbles was the best. Plus, they deliver all over the area (sometimes they charge a small fee, depending on your zipcode, but for someone like me who lived in NE DC and had no car and needed to buy cases of wet food for 2 cats, this delivery service was well worth the $ 5. i still use it sometimes though I’ve moved to Arlington).
You can also order online, and I did this the first few times I ordered. I usually opt to just call in my order now, as they know me and can just pull up my info. They’ll even hold aside a few cases for me if I say I’m going to stop by in the next couple of days.
Chris, the owner, makes it his business to be informed as to the best natural foods for cats and dogs. He’s made alternative suggestions to the treats I’d been feeding my cats, and now that he knows me he’s even engaged me in a discussion of whether the food I’d been using for years for my cats was still the best choice. He wasn’t pushy, just made it clear that he had some info on the subject, sending the message «hey, if you ever want to discuss it, let me know. i know my stuff.»
Since I started using them, I admittedly haven’t kept up with prices, so they may no longer be the cheapest. But their service, the fact that they are so knowledgeable, remember my name and order, and are always enthusiastic and quick to help, as well as the aforementioned delivery service, keep them at 5 stars for me.

I normally only write reviews for restaurants; however, Nature’s Nibbles qualifies as food — dog food. My four-legged princess deserves nothing but the best, so all her products (e.g. food, treats, toys, bones, etc.) come from this local, all-natural pet supply store. I could not be happier, and neither could my pooch.
Nature’s Nibbles offers a wide variety of locally-produced and sourced, organic products for dogs and cats. No preservatives, no coloring, no bad-for-your-pet’s health additives… everything is extremely healthy for your animal. As if that wasn’t enough, the prices are exceptionally affordable (comparable to processed foods you find in grocery stores), and the staff members are very helpful and friendly. To top things off, they deliver!
You really cannot go wrong at Nature’s Nibbles. Go ahead, make the turnover to an organic, all-natural diet for your pet. They will look, feel, and act happier and they will thank you by living long, healthy lives…

This is an update to reflect a thoughtful and responsive message I received from the owner in response to my first Unilocal post. My stars stand, but my comments have changed.
Not really dog store so much as a dog food store. I live very close by but drive somewhere else to get food for my dogs. I’ve been told that they will deliver to your home if you live in Del Ray. So I could see using that service if I really couldn’t run out. Would be helpful for all the families in town.
First, the food is expensive. Doggie Style (I didn’t come up with the name, ok?) on 18^th is cheaper for the same food, and they deal with Dupont rent prices. That being said, I do understand that the price of shipping has gone up dramatically over the past couple of years since I lived in the city. Also, I’m willing to get over the slight price jump to support a local Del Ray business.
Second, the guy who runs the store hasn’t been friendly when I’ve been there. But the owners were responsive to my Unilocal complaints. I’ll leave it at that.
Third, they don’t really carry anything other than dog food. They only carry maybe 10 brands of food, high quality stuff. Maybe a few leashes. How about a toy? Or some atmosphere? I’d dropping $ 50 on a bag of food, let me browse a little.
Barkley Square a few blocks down in Mt. Vernon sells dog outfits and high end treats, no food. Not really my thing, but they are pleasant and helpful there. Olde Towne School for Dogs on St. Asaph is where I go now.

They have a great self-serve doggie bath service — and they were nice enough to let me use it to give my cat a bath.
They provide an elevated tub with a walk-up ramp, hose with nice spray attachment, towels, and even the pet shampoo. They even charged me a little less then the posted price for a small dog
They also provide generous size free samples of some of the pet food they sell. I plan ot purchase more of cat food, litter, etc. there from now on and they even provide free delivery to my area.

Look who’s no longer in cyberspace! It’s Nature’s Nibbles all natural and organic pet food store right here in Del Ray (conveniently located next to Los Tios). So, here’s what I do on my visits:
1. Get dog food.
2. Walk a few doors down.
3. Get margarita (s).
You can also do that in reverse order, but don’t hurt yourself. Anyway, Nature’s Nibbles was an online and home delivery holistic pet product business that now is conveniently located right on Mount Vernon Avenue. People who are passionate about their pets (alliteration) will be psyched to see their vast selection of raw foods, treats, toys, beds, you name it. They opened on Black Friday so we strolled in there to grab the furry ones some goodies. They’re still stocking up on inventory but the owner said they are getting in a whole bunch of unique holiday products… including some really cool dog beds. I’m going to get one for myself for when I’m in the dog house. Bad jokes, bad jokes.
Anyway, Anne and Chris are cool as can be and do a great job in getting you the best for your best friends. Our two dogs and two cats say, «Sixteen paws up!» Definitely check them out for the well-being of your pets and to support small business owners who provide ethical and earth-friendly products.
P. S. Great selection of free-range raw meats and bones from Hare Today farms… including wild game (rabbit, duck, pheasant) You name it. Great for pets with allergies.
