I have reluctantly gone here for a few years due to convenience. This past visit will be the last.
First off, Dr. Clark does not value your time, only your money. He way overbooks– like 3 people at one time. How does one doctor see three patients at once? By making you sit around in his office for 2 hours while he rotates through the other people who’s time he’s wasting. And you know this because there are no exam rooms. I mean, I don’t need to know that the patient next to me had a mother who had cancer and just retired from the military and the «not so thorough» doctors who saw him while he was in the military suggested he come to this place for his glaucoma (which he apparently doesn’t actually have).
Second, he doesn’t listen. When I told him about the vision issues I was having, he made them worse, not better. When I called and told them that what he gave me wasn’t working, I was told to «get used to it.» My other option was to come back for another visit because he didn’t listen to me in the first place. That’s just bad service from a bad doctor.
Several people mentioned the staff. They are hit or miss, depending on their mood. They often act like they do not want to be bothered, and don’t listen. They also aren’t trained very well at what there job is. This past visit the girl tried to charge me for something I didn’t owe.
I tried once to look at the limited selection of glasses there, as well, but as many people mention– the person who does them is never there. Even if it’s her office hours, she’s likely at her 3 hour lunch.
Please don’t bother going here.

I’ve been going to Dr. Clark for years and have had only good experiences. He’s professional and friendly, as is his staff. The office is beautiful — contemporary décor and very clean. I’m not crazy about the open exam rooms — not great for privacy. But that’s relatively minor, not even worth taking away a half star. I’ve recommended him in the past and heard no complaints from those who saw him, and I’ll continue to recommend him.

The experience was awful. There were hidden costs that I was not aware, and the staff were impolite

I was very appalled by their lack of patient rights and customer service that I had to walk out of my appointment. When I requested to not have my eyes dilated because I had something to go to afterwards and have had my eyes dilated and looked at with in the last 6 months, I was told that I had no choice. As someone who is in the health profession I found this very out of date thinking and was surprised at their lack to give their patient’s choices. When I asked for the reasoning the only response was he’s an optamoligist. Which I was aware of but also know optamoligist do more than dilate eyes and have never been somewhere where I am not given my basic patient rights especially where in no way would it interfere with my health or be beneficial to have my eyes dilated. I walked out and would recommend that people don’t walk in to this doctors office

You know… I kinda felt bad like maybe my review before was too mean… Now I don’t feel bad at all…
So I went to Dr Clark to get my new glasses in Crystal Optical… whose Hours are Mon-​Fri 9−5…thanks yes not everyone lives and WORKS in old town… so when should I come get my glasses?
Beside the point… I made time– told my boss I would be in late whcih is in itself a struggle– and showed up at crystal optical at 9 am on a friday…
Except one thing is missing… the girl for the optical shop.
The receptionists were there and were like oh just have a seat so i sit down and waited for 20 minutes before they said… Oh she won’t be in until 10 am…
10 am wow… so should i wait? Nope. I’m already way late to work and I have a lot to get done so I just leave.
SO thank you Crystal Optical for completely WASTING my time. Now I don’t have glasses, lost an hour of pay, and I’m annoyed.

So if you’re going to buy your glasses here… I suggest going at 4pm? Which I assume she’ll actually be there? Or maybe making an appointment. Who knows.

Pros: The front-​desk staff is always friendly and helpful, wonderful people.
Cons: I made an appointment for a contact lens exam and fitting, and told them this was my first time getting contacts. After having an eye exam done, Dr. Clark proceeded to dilate my eyes, finish the exam and then quickly hand me off to the woman in the room doing the fitting. After my eyes were dilated. Meaning I couldn’t see anything. Needless to say, the contacts never fit right, and it was only after going to an amazing eye doctor in Philadelphia (after moving) that I realized how awful this experience really was.
There are plenty of good eye doctors out there — go somewhere else.

A very poor experience. I went to Dr. Clark a few years ago and I had to spend a fair amount of time waiting for him while sitting in the large room mentioned in other reviews. You can hear everything going on with the other patients. He’s a nice enough guy and the exam itself wasn’t bad, but it’s the business practices after the exam that really bothered me.
Almost a year after my exam with Dr. Clark, I got an envelope in the mail from his office. All that was inside was a credit card receipt. My card had been charged and in the line for a signature, someone in his office had written «Insurance didn’t cover full cost.» Seriously, that’s all that was inside the envelope. A small credit card receipt with no permission from me to have charged my card and no explanation of why it was done (especially almost a year after the fact).
Okay… first of all, how does he still have my credit card information on record after a year? I didn’t think a doctor’s office could charge my card without physical access to my card. Especially that far after the use of it. Second of all, how can they so blatantly use the line that’s intended for my signature as a memo line instead? This goes beyond bad business into what I think might possibly be illegal activity.
I really should have contacted my credit card company and reported him, but the charge was under $ 100, and honestly I just didn’t want to get into the hassle of it. But I have never gone back to him since and never will.
Absolutely avoid him! Very suspect behavior.

Dr. Clark has been punctual and professional when I have visited him. He works well with my insurance, and his eyeglass shop in the front has been very helpful having glasses ordered and delivered. Because my insurance only covers economy frames and lenses, I had to send a pair of glasses back to be remade once, and the woman who manages the store was very helpful. She and Doctor Clark have always been a pleasure to deal with.

Unlike the other review I did find the exam to be comprehensive. I could not imagine any eye exam that did not include the glaucoma/​puff test. Dr. Clark did everything I would expect from a medical standpoint.
That does not mean I will back.
I also had concerns about my billing. Felt more like haggling for a car. I would have felt much more comfortable if all charges were discussed up front.
Staff was friendly enough, but less thaneffecient. I was not impressed that they were taking with the doctor about personal issues while he was 20 min late for my appointment.

update: i just spent a few hundred dollars going to Dr Littlefield, a few blocks down. MUCH nicer and much more reasonable. Dr. Littlefield asked me what Dr. Clark told me my pressure in my eye was (common and standard on a «routine eye exam» — ESPECIALLY if he suspects glaucoma) and what do you know… no pressure test from Dr. Clark! if he had done one (as Dr. Littlefield did), he would’ve found out that my eye pressure was 17 (perfectly average) and my corneal thickness was 5.45 (again, perfectly average). Thank you, Dr. Clark, for worrying me about glaucoma and encouraging me to spend an extra few hundred dollars this year on unnecessary eye exams. Look for my review of Dr. Littlefield. He didn’t try to falsely diagnose me with any eye problems in order to make more money. Shame on you, Dr. Clark.

Dr. Clark is a very careful professional and gives the complete eye exam you SHOULD have. Other reviewers have complained about having their eyes dialated and and bright lights shown in them. If you want a cursory exam just to get glass go to some Hour Eyes or something. If you are concerned about your over-​all eye health then you shold be after the exact proceedures Dr. Clark employs — a complete and in-​depth exam. He has helped me over the last 15 years with some difficult eye issues, and found a new one at the back of my retina two years ago using these extensive exam proceedures. I like my eyes and I want to keep them. If all you care about is getting a new pair of glass without the inconvienence of a real exam, then go someplace else.

I had a referral from my primary care physician for a medical diagnosis which required that I see an opthamalogist. Since this is a participating physician in my health care plan, I should have only paid a standard co-​pay. Watch for the fine print, though! Actually, there isn’t any fine print; you just need to be very careful when calling for an appointment, and again when handing them your referral paperwork. They will try to sneak in extra services and exams so that they can collect more than your co-​pay! What’s worse, the doctor is less than thorough, as he is juggling you with about four or five other patients at the same time. All patients are sitting in the same large room, which has partial wall dividers, so you can hear what’s going on between each patient and the doctor. He flits from one to the next, as far as I could tell, without washing his hands! Beautiful, modern office, but I won’t be back.

Dr. Clark is a very helpful optometrist whose practice is in the heart of Old Town. He and his staff have been very professional each time I have visited. I have been able to schedule appointments within a week of my call. He does very thorough eye exams and helped me transition to contact lenses.
Both he and his staff also speak fluent Spanish. They take Davis Vision eye care. I am happy to be a patient of Dr. Clark’s.
