The Glynn Jones experience can be had at one of two distinct locations: Old Town in Alexandria and Dupont Circle in the District. Each salon offers a catered British European experience, an ever-​changing décor and a commitment to excellence in hair solution execution.

History

Established in 2003.

Glynn Jones salon opened in September 2003. At the time there was just 1 stylist, Glynn, who trained in London, England.

7 years later the business has grown with 2 locations and a staff of around 35 and with a product line called Brit Chic for women and Brit Boss for men. The salon has a great reputation in DC and northern Virginia.

Business Owner

Now has the Brit Boss and with a line of men’s grooming products of the same name. Tony runs the business side of things for Glynn Jones salon LLC — not as a hair stylist but, as marketing and PR manager.

Customer service is just as important to us as a great haircut, it’s an overall experience. We are proud that at our salons you get both.

We understand and never forget there are many choices of salons for you to choose from and we will work hard to make you happy and keep you coming back time after time.

Worst haircut ever! I went in for a trim while visiting from out of town and ended up getting worst haircut ever from Zoe. I was trying to be polite but I should have stopped her when she took out electric clippers and used them to thin out my hair. I said no stylist has ever done this before so please do not take too much off. She assured me it was the best way to thin our my thick hair. She then asked me twice if my hair looked even. What kind of hair professional does that? $ 85 for choppy, uneven butcher job when all I wanted was my ends to get trimmed. I told her that repeatedly not to take much off but she didn’t listen. So upset!

Super happy with my mani/​pedi from Tomiko. She was so easy to talk to and was incredibly knowledgeable about what she was doing. My nails look and feel like a professional did them. I got a groupon and was nervous-​but this really is a great place. A definite repeat.

I will be back here. I have a hard time finding salons I like enough to stick with, but am so happy to find this one.
Apart from a great cut and color, my favorite part is that you can book an appointment on their website, and without creating any sort of account. If you do have to call, though, the front desk girls are very friendly.
They use Bumble and Bumble, which I love. The salon itself is cute inside and all the good old town shops are nearby for shopping afterwards.
My stylist was Michele, and I was very happy with her. She listened to what I had to say but wasn’t one of those people who was scared to give their own input. Previously I had visit Casal’s in Clarendon, which was quite nice, but seemed sort of… conservative and tame. I like that the stylists here had edgier looks.
Parking is a pain, like everywhere else around there, so make sure to plan ahead.

I have been going to Erin W for about a year, after the Unilocal event. I went from black hair to vibrant Irish red and she maintains my color wonderfully. It is the same each time and doesn’t fade! They use Bumble and Bumble products that are great for extensive processing on your hair.
When you go in, you feel welcomed, refreshments are offered, even a glass of wine! I just love the guys, I can always get in same day, no wait, or they will work you in for emergencies

Great experience! I came in for a last minute color appointment when my regular person had an emergency. Laura was available and she did a great job. I was telling her my hair woes and she suggested the Brazilian blow out which I knew nothing about. She explained it and I decided to try it. She was able to accommodate me the same day! They had a well ventilated area for the brazilian blow out process.
Laura went above and beyond and did a great job. Also very personable.
I thought the pricing at the salon was competitive with the area. Fitting me in was super kind for a new client.
I’m planning to try working with Laura for my next haircut :) maybe I have finally found my all in one salon!

Pretty good Brasilian blowout service. I liked the stylist who treated my hair but was put off by the loose dogs in a professional salon. I made a surprised face when I saw one upstairs to which I received an ugly facial expression from the owner of the salon and dogs. I could’ve used a heads up when I made my appointment because I would’ve chosen a different place. I have strong dog hair allergies and think its unprofessional to have pets at a place of business in general.

I have been going to see Mano at Glynn Jones for 2 ½ years now. I truly love this man-​he does an amazing job with hair and makes me feel like a million dollars. Mano is a master with the highlights, he always listens to me and helps me to find a cut/​color that works for me. I also love Glynn Jones-​because they are full service. You can get coffee, tea, etc while getting pampered and everyone working there is willing to please. They use Bumble and Bumble hair products here too-​which is a total «win». As a dog lover, I love seeing the resident pooches quietly «hanging out» while i get beautified. The ambiance is great and makes me feel comfortable and welcome.

I should have known going in with a Groupon that I probably wouldn’t get full service, but this was a true disappointment. I essentially received a short, overpriced «ultimate» mani/​pedi– even at the Groupon price.
The pedicure was fine, no massage and my tech didn’t work on my in-​growns, even after I pointed them out. She decided she was going to cut my toenails short, which is fine since it’s what I wanted, but I’ve never had a tech not ask what I preferred.
The manicure was worthless, plus an extra $ 20 for Shellac?! She started out wanting to cut my nails and I asked her to just file them. She barely did so and some ended up uneven. The same tech told me this was a «dry manicure» when I asked if she would trim the skin around my nails. Apparently dry means no lotion or massage after the fact either. I ended up leaving with Shellac on my cuticles, dead skin around my nails and dry hands– NOT what you expect after a manicure. Went home to file them myself, trim the skin and work on peeling some of the nail polish.
One star for the fact that the polish has lasted over a week so far. I would pass on any of Tomiko’s nail services if I were you. Request the other woman or go elsewhere.

I’ve been getting my hair cut here (and occasionally at their Dupont Circle location) by Tim for 6+ years, even though I was living in Charlottesville for three of those years. Obviously, I’m very happy with the results. Over the years, he’s cut my hair in short and long styles, and once he even did his best to fix the terrible bangs I cut by myself in a moment of overambitious stupidity. (Then he gently reminded me that I could just come in for a complimentary bang trim in between appointments instead of going rogue with the kitchen sheers.)
Sadly, Tim moved to NY, but lucky for me he comes back the last week of every month, so I don’t have to go through the terrible, awful, no fun process of finding a new stylist.
The salon itself is pretty nice. Sometimes the techno beats can be a little much, but you gotta love the owner’s cute dog that wanders around (occasionally with a brightly dyed mohawk). And you’re always offered a drink when you arrive, which is a nice touch. Parking can be a pain, especially on weekends, but if you head a few blocks north or south, away from King St. on one of the cross streets, you can usually find something more easily.

I followed my stylist Laura from a previous salon to this one (thank you Unilocal for connecting us!). Laura did a great job (as always, no surprise there) and I had even better experiences with this new salon.
Its more trendy salon than the last one, but still a great atmosphere, you can tell the stylists that work there love what they do and have fun doing it. I got a Saturday morning appointment less than 2 weeks in advance, so not a long wait time at all. Super friendly front office staff, that offers you beverages (I am a sucker for cucumber water). I parked on the street next to the salon, and unfortunately, Old Town only allows 2 hour parking, however I have 3 hour hair (long and thick), so when my phone alarm went off alerting me that my parking expired, I was ready to head out to put more money in the meter, when Laura got one of the women up front to do it for me! Fabulous service here.
Laura did a partial highlight and trim with a blow dry that looked great. I noticed my roots showing after only 2 weeks, but I went lighter for the summer than I normally do so that might have something to do with it, or maybe its the new line of products that I’m not used to. Next time I go in, I’ll go a little darker to extend the time between salon visits.

It took me four years to find her and I wasn’t going to let her go! I tried getting highlights every salon in the area when I moved here and no one could do them right. I first found Katie at a different salon nearby and she was incredible– she listened to what I wanted and didn’t try to talk me into low lights (like everyone else). I called to make an appointment and found out she left. Thank god for Facebook because I found her at Glynn Jones and the salon is awesome!

I tried coloring my hair with a boxed product and made a complete mess of it. Katie took quite some time talking me off the cliff then proceeded to color and highlight. My hair looks great now. Thanks Katie. I am definately coming back. NET

Azita simply does a great job with hair! I started going to her five years ago when I was new to the area & trying to find someone who’d understand my hair. It turned out Azita did! Not only that, but she helped keep me grow out a pixie cut with grace.
She knows how to layer thick hair, gets color right – both high & lowlights, and does a lovely keratin treatment. When work took me away to another part of the country, my hair just wasn’t the same. When we returned to the area, I headed directly to Azita’s chair. Guaranteed you’ll leave the salon feeling beautiful, no matter your hair length.

Though this is far from my house, I had a great experience and enjoyed watching a demonstration of the airbrush makeup. The staff is really outgoing and treat you like you’re their oldest friend. It’s a quaint salon situated among a lot of popular places. I liked that it was two levels, and that there are tiers for their stylists to fit your budget!

Hopefully this review will stick this time! Of course I love this studio! I went to get a Brazilian Blowout done, My stylist Tim always does a great job. This studio by far doesn’t have the Hair Cuttery feel. Very contemporary, clean and courteous personnel. The max time for meter parking is 2 hours. But with the hair treatment I was getting, it lasted for 3 – 4 hours. The personnel there went out for me, and I trusted them with my credit card to pay for more time on my meter. TALK ABOUT GREAT SERVICE! That took a lot of relief off my shoulders and not having to embarrass myself by going out in public with half done hair!
Unfortunately my hair stylist Tim is moving away (sad face), but this salon definitely has my continued business. I will see you guys in 3 months! Thanks a lot for making me look fabulous!

I have been putting off writing this review for a couple of weeks because, honestly, I feel weird and I’d rather forget the whole thing, but I feel like people need to hear this.
I purchased a Groupon for two massages. I went in for my first one and, well I’ll list my dissatisfactions in order of importance:
1) The massage therapist (Sondos) massaged my breasts. Like not an accidental brush or pectoral massage, either. More like a thorough medical breast exam. I deeply regret that I did not spring off the table immediately, but I was in shock. I’d had many massages elsewhere before and this had never happened but in the moment, my mind was doing the «Is this… this isn’t normal, right?» thing and I very uncomfortably stayed and then immediately went home and emailed the salon owner.
2) The massage took place on something which was not a proper massage table and had no hole for the face, so I had to turn my head to the side or smash my face into the table. I ended up hurting my already sore neck even more.
3) Even before all of this, it just wasn’t a good massage. I felt more tense during and after it than I did before and I wasn’t convinced she knew what she was doing.
I told the owner what happened and he chalked it up to the massage therapist’s lack of fluency in English. I pointed out that if she were a licensed massage therapist, she would know that it is illegal to touch a client’s breasts, and asked if she was actually licensed. He didn’t answer. He did not react with the horror I’d expect and instead offered me a facial to replace the second massage I had credit for (and in all honesty, I was much too polite when I first emailed. The reality of what had just happened had not fully sunk in yet, and I did ask for a different service to replace the second massage, but as the day wore on, I realized I didn’t ever want to go in there again).
Groupon gave me a refund, luckily. I am not the sort of person who generally complains about service, and I am not unfamiliar with how massages work so I am not misunderstanding what went on here.

Round I:
The first time I came to this business was for a Brazilian Wax… I don’t want to get into detail, but it wasn’t great. I learned later, that the aesthetician performing my wax was the substitute for the beauty veteran Zeba. The staff was very graceful & compassionate about my dreadful experience & granted me an opportunity to come back.
Round II:
Zeba was fabulous from start to finish. She is obviously skilled at her craft. On top of her professionalism, she is very sweet & soothing.
I left with a smile on my face, a smooth baby bottom, & an uplifted spirit caused by Zeba’s charm & aura…
They have earned every one of my five stars… Great service, clean environment, & for their refreshing complimentary citrus cucumber water.

The staff was very kind and let me come in for a re-​do but I’m not too happy with that either :(Everyone is very nice there and I liked the girl who did my hair this time. However, my hair seems to be very badly damaged now, very frizzy and fried. I came in with messed up hair and it’s just still messed up. I just can’t win!

I purchased a groupon for two mani/​pedis at Glynn Jones. On the plus side, the salon is bright and clean, decent color selection, and my nails looked okay in the end.
The two-​seat nail section is upstairs, next to another hair area, which made it really loud. My big problem, however, is that my nail tech rushed through my pedicure, scratching up my feet, only to take another customer for a manicure before doing mine. I sat in a broken pedicure massage chair for more than 45 minutes without anyone apologizing for the inconvenience, while the other nail tech took a break. I get that it’s Saturday and things are busy, but I’ve never had anyone split my pre-​booked appointment like that without warning. I’m really regretting buying that second groupon right now.

Came in last minute for a wash and style: 65 $, wow, I haven’t even paid that in NYC. Still, it was good, but for no champagne, no scalp massage and nothing special, it was excessive!
