History

Established in 2012.

The Excelsior Pub was first started out as a small Pub Room on Delaware Ave back in 2012. After shutting down for a period of time The Excelsior Pub has reopened on Madison Ave in the heart of the historic Mansion Neighborhood. The Excelsior Pub is bigger and better than ever and is now located near great attractions like The Governors Mansion, The Empire State Plaza, The State Museum, The Egg, The Times Union Center and New Convention Center. Come down to The Excelsior Pub and enjoy the best New York has to offer!

This place is the neighborhood bar I’ve pined for since moving to Albany. As an advocate for locally-​sourced food and drink –without the locavore tag –Excelsior was a fantastic find. Jay’s hospitality, enthusiasm, and creativity are second to none.

Jay is the third coolest bartender I’ve ever met, and I’ve been to all but three bars in the world. We’re lucky to have Mr. Excelsior himself reopen his amazing establishment in the historic Mansion area! If you want the best selection of craft New York State produced beers and spirits, this is the spot. They also have cool drink specials and events throughout the week, amazing hot wings and fresh chips! I’ve heard there’s a crazy ladies night, but haven’t made it yet. There’s darts in the back, and even a guy that draws ridiculous and cool cartoons of patrons (I forget what nights).

This place is just awesome. You get to try food and drinks from throughout New York in one stop! Jay the owner is just fantastic and has the perfect Community Pub feel in The Excelsior Pub. My husband and I recently joined the Pub Club, too, and have been having a great time trying the different breweries they have on tap.
And the wings? Fuhgetaboutit. Amazing. Seriously.

Great addition to the Mansion neighborhood bar scene. This place serves brews and eats from across NY state. The food menu is small right now, but we were told it would expand in the future.
When you order a beer, there are a variety of sizes to choose from. If you order a «fist full of beers», you get a discount. In addition to beer and cider, there is also a wide variety of NY state liquor.
There is seating at the bar, a few TVs and darts in the back. Come down and give this place a try. It is worth the visit.

Great brews and eats, all from New York State!
It’s a short walk down Madison Avenue from the south end of the Plaza. Head down the hill, one block from the museum and you’ll be hanging out with Jay, learning all about New York, and enjoying great local beverages and snacks.
When I visited, it was just after they opened and there wasn’t a great sign outside or a full menu offered yet, but the crowd inside was definitely enjoying the happy hour specials and homemade chips.
Five stars for the enjoyable experience, and great potential it has with locals and tourists alike.
