I had dinner with two friends this evening at Hudson Harbor Steak and Seafood. We all agreed this was one of the best meals of our lives. I had the Beef and Reef. The ribeye was perfect and the seafood Au gratin was even better. Jimmy declared his filet was the best steak he’d ever had. Kate stated her twin lobster tails excellent. The sides, soup and apps were all perfect. Everything was made fresh so it took a bit longer than in a chain restaurant. If you’re looking for a quick bite this isn’t the place. It’s only open weekends.

My boyfriend and I had a gift certificate so we figured we’d try it. Opened the door at 5pm to go in and alarm went off, noone was there. Not sure if we should go back. Only 1 star because I had to in order to post.

I went for the first time during Albany restaurant week. The food was only ok. The servings were very small, in fact if you put the slices of chocolate cake together for the 3 people in my party, you still didn’t get a normal slice. Was very disappointed. Will not eat there again.

A hidden gem in the heart of Albany Downtown. Words can’t explain the flavor of the amazing food being prepare at this place. The only way to find out is trying in it. Wow!

my first time going but my family’s second time. have to admit it’s quite unique. it’s a family run place so the service was a bit slow but they are very accommodating. it used to be a boat house ticket station and they have pictures of boats everywhere. it took a while for our food to be prepare but it was GREAT. it was worth the weight. everything was very well prepare, the steak was awesome, seafood was huge & good portions. small menu but really great. everyone had to «doggy bag» while we ate everything. I’m going back for more next time i visit the area.

We only went for cocktails and apps so our review is limited to that. It is not easy to find a bar these days without a distracting TV so immediately we liked this place. The Martini and Bloody Mary were well executed. Our apps included cherry stones and a seafood stuff potato, which was better than we expected. Very pleasant vibe in this historic building. Family run, the chef/dad for many years expertly learned his trade in Jack’s Oyster House.

What a strange place. What an interesting building. It used to be the old ticket house for passenger boats that would travel the Hudson. When we entered I half expected Miss Havesham to greet us at the hostess station still wearing her decayed wedding dress, or to see a table of Indocine French diners straight out of ‘Apocalypse Now’. It was very clean, neat and full of interesting décor. My husband, three year old daughter, and in laws dined here last Thursday night. My husband choice for his birthday dinner. It took two hours for our meal to be served, and my daughter did not pull the place apart. Yes, three year old, quiet, two hours. It’s as if she was too spooked to move. I loved it though. Tthe menu was ‘old school’; coquille st. jacque mornay, delmonico steak, rack of lamb, sole… service was very slow. The waitress brewed our ice tea to order so it was warm and watered down with the melted ice cubes by the time i got it. The bread was the par baked sysco type. but the salad very fresh and the dressing home made and very good. It’s the steak that was a surprise. I love char and i love rare. I rarely ever order it whenout because it takes a seasoned grill cook to do it well.(I got tired of sending steaks back to the kitchen because they were either under chared or over cooked). This steak was perfect. Ii dont know who they have chained to the grill, or if i just met my match, but i was very happy with my dinner.

Sometimes the foodie appellative is just a pain in the ass. This is where you find yourself when you’re just sick of all the pretense. What you get at Hudson Harbor is a time capsule of an undetermined date in a former French restaurant in a Dutch inspired building: perfectly mixed drinks, a dark wood-paneled and fusty ambiance that a nostalgia-burdened grandmother would love, a brief menu heavy with decades old surf and turf and beef and reef standards, and yes, canned corn served in its own little dish. And the staff is so damned friendly.

Seafood. We parked in the lot behind the restaurant, which is small. Maybe 15 cars can fit if no one parks like a jerk. I made a reservation, but it wasn’t necessary. The place was pretty dead. Three tables were occupied near the fireplace and they were almost finished with their meals. The service was more than accommodating. Our server was friendly and welcoming. He knew the menu intimately. I started with my standard order of a sidecar. My litmus test for the bar. This is where the star comes off. Sour mix does not belong in a sidecar but booze does. Somehow the bartender got that message crossed. The twin crabcakes were delightful. Just enough breading to hold the crab meat together and then dipped in breadcrumbs so a crunchy crust formed. Served with lemon wedges and a spicy sauce on the side. Off to a good start. The soup was homemade and perfect in every way. It was not over-salted and it lacked a floating layer of grease which seems to be a common occurrence in the places I frequent! The hearty goodness involved tri-colored tortellini, fresh grape tomatoes, chard or spinach, sausage, corned beef, carrots, celery, onions and a clear broth. I could have skipped the rest of my meal and just had the soup. This soup should set the standard for any restaurant. It has been a very long time since I’ve eaten a properly cooked piece of fish. My complaints fall all over the charts… too dry, rubbery, undercooked, overcooked, oversalted, undersalted, slimy, mutilated, gray, gummy coating, there’s a hot-dog bun on my plate, etc. We’ve all had our share of bad fish in restaurants. This piece of salmon that I ate tonight was cooked by someone who knows what he/she is doing. It was a beautiful piece of salmon that was stuffed with spinach that had been sauteed with garlic and onions and huge, luscious lumps of king crab leg meat. REAL crab meat, friends. They let the pollack swim free and left the red-40 in the bottle. Divine. My dining partner had to give up about a quarter of his meal to me. I never order risotto. Rice is cheap. I have a hard time justifying a very expensive vat of rice. It was the special and it was special, indeed. Seafood risotto including clams, mussels, sea scallops, shrimp, properly cooked rice, bright green peas and a gal with plate envy. The place is tastefully decorated with a nautical theme. Dark wood paneling, low lights, Frank Sinatra playing in the dining room, fireplace. Get dessert but make sure you have someone to share it with. I need only say this. hot out of the oven biscuits for strawberry shortcake. The coffee is good. Actually, it kicks ass. Short hours. 5 – 8:30 T-TH open to 9p.m. F-Sat. Closed Mondays.

Hudson Harbor is a family-owned steakhouse in downtown albany in an old rail building. They are not vegan or vegetarian friendly(duh) but what they do provide is very good and homemade. Their service has always been friendly and personal(the chef/owner’s son has been our server most of the time). The menu is small and carefully prepared. I’ve always enjoyed my experiences there.
