History
Established in 2013.
My passion for fermentation, food sourcing and food preparation was inspired by the beautiful Tuscan countryside, where I spent most of childhood foraging in the woods according to the seasons and raising chickens and ducks. While I have been passionate about food preparation all my life, I came to nutritional therapy after earning a Ph.D. in Italian Renaissance literature from U.C. Berkeley, where I taught college writing as well as Italian language and culture courses for several years.
Complementing my lifelong enjoyment of and commitment to health-giving food, the rigorous course of nutrition studies I completed through the Nutritional Therapy Association, Inc. has formed me as a competent professional capable of guiding you and your family through the process of achieving your goals. Additionally, as a Certified GAPS™ Practitioner, I have the specialized training in the use of additional nutritional, detoxification and lifestyle protocols that foster deep healing.

In the Tuscan countryside, it was natural for me to eat with the seasons, foraging for medicinal and culinary herbs, mushrooms, rose hips, chestnuts and blackberries. Then a sudden move to rural Nevada at the eve of adolescence interrupted these rhythms. That was when I first thought of becoming a «nutritionist,» but the books on nutrition in the nearest public library focused on mega-dosing with synthetic vitamins. I wanted to work with food. I ended up teaching college writing and Italian language. As a teacher, I was struck by the way in which with each passing year my students were less able to focus and work, more sickly and distracted, and more dependent on energy drinks to keep going. I wondered, «why am I teaching people to write a college essay when I should really be teaching them how to eat?» And it was this thought that inspired my studies at the Nutritional Therapy Association.
