It has been awhile since my last review and I feel obligated to provide an update. I’ve been to Gallo’s twice recently, first time out of necessity and second by choice. My first visit resulted from promising my daughter pizza on the way home from the library only to find that Pasquale’s was not open yet. I did toss the Gallo’s menu out as promised in my last review but this damn Unilocal site has their phone number! Against my better judgment, I pickup the phone and called, the trace had taken hold. I ordered a large cheese and was first surprised by the price $ 7.99(pickup only special). Next surprise. .. the place is under new management, new menu and everything. The pizza is pretty good, nice balance of sauce and cheese and the crust holds up nicely. Both my daughter and I were pleased. Last night I decided to push my luck and order hot and crispy wings along with another pizza, to see how they do with consistency. Surprise, the wings were both hot and crispy and good! This is not like the Gallo’s of old. The pizza was just as good as my last visit. My wife cannot believe we are ordering from Gallo’s again, a place she once despised. If you’ve tried Gallo’s before and weren’t happy, it is worth another shot. I’m a little surprised the new owners are keeping the name. I could see if the place was an institution but the reviews of the place are mixed at best. Anyway, I’m actually looking forward to going back!

One of those rare times that I agree with Shawn S. regarding pizza. This place bills itself as having some of the largest slices in the area. There is no doubting that. The slices are positively enormous. But I have never been a bigger is better type of person, and this place is a perfect example of why. If I were to venture a guess, I would imagine that an extra large pizza would need to be cooked at a slightly lower heat. Otherwise, the middle would still be underdone while the rest of the pizza was charred. This could explain why the crust is really just a flaccid base for the sauce and cheese. But really, I can’t be sure of the cause, only the result. Which is a shame. Because the people at Gallo’s are nice enough. And it’s the only game in town if you are waiting on a scrip to be filled at CVS or just running an errand to the post office. I eat there as a matter of necessity, not of desire.
