The Hansen Group

John and his partner Oscar did a addition to our home.
We added a master bedroom and a kitchen to our cottage. They did every thing within a 6 week window and the work was well done within the estimated price.
Oscar is very creative and and he and John are a great team.

I wouldn’t even give John one star, but I had to click on the area. I had John build an in-​law unit onto the existing house. It took him 7 months longer than what he had originally said. He said 4 – 6 months. It took 13 months. So I was paying for 7 months of storage. He wrote the contract in a strange way, and I found that he was overcharging me. He never gave me any invoices for the work that was performed. I continually asked him for them as I didn’t know what I was paying for. I could see the progress, but still didn’t know what the money was paying for. He’d just ask for $ 20,000 every other week. I stopped paying him, and finally contacted an attorney. Even when the attorney asked for the invoices he never gave him any. I gave him 4 punch lists, the last one being when I moved into the unit. John had previously told me that he wasn’t going to fix anything else after the third punch list. He never completed the punch list. 6 months now and am still having issues.
Before I moved into the unit I noticed that there were only 3 small vents under the house. We had a very small amount of rain last March while the unit was still under construction. After that rain, I could smell dampness under the unit when I opened the door to go under the unit. I mentioned it to John that I needed more vents. He had his worker installing them one Sat. I couldn’t believe that the worker asked me where I wanted to put them. I told him that I wasn’t a contractor and didn’t know, but to contact the architect.
After moving into the unit June 1, I still smelled the musty odor under the unit. As you know we didn’t get much rain after March of this year 2014 until now. I decided to contact the Senior City Building Inspector, as well as another contractor. They both mentioned that I still needed more vents. I was in the process of hiring a handy man to install more vents, but decided to contact the carpenter to see if he would install them, since he had built the in-​law unit. He decided to do it. I ended up paying the carpenter out of pocket to do the work that John should have initially taken care of.
Mon. evening, Nov. 17 I smelled a burning wire odor in the bathroom. I text his carpenter but he didn’t reply. The next day I contacted an electrician that we use. He came out and told me to contact whoever wired the in-​law unit because he didn’t know what the worker did. I told him that John’s worker who wired it isn’t a licensed electrician. Over that week I called and text the carpenter to no avail. In the meantime, I was in touch with another electrician. He said that there isn’t really much that he could do, since he wouldn’t know where to begin. So I have actually contacted 2 electricians after I smelled the burning wire odor.
A week later, Mon, Nov. 24, I contacted John numerous times, and he states he will get his worker here «as quickly as possible». It’s been over a week, since I contacted John, and I still haven’t heard from him, and it’s been over 2 weeks since I smelled the burning wire odor. I don’t know if the arcing will reoccur again.
The dishwasher never worked. I went to use it 2 weeks ago and I had to have the Home Warranty people look at it, since his worker never showed up to look at it like he said he would on 2 occasions. The worker forgot to plug it in, then didn’t remove the plug from where the drainage hose attaches to the insinkerator.
The grout in the bathroom shower is cracking and 2 chunks have fallen out. I have contacted tile workers to ascertain estimates.
One of the gutters on the roof is angled the wrong way. I contacted other roofers to find out how to remedy it.
Since John added on the in-​law unit to the main house, he deleted one of the downspouts on the main house. As a result, there is too much water for the one downspout ton my unit to handle. The roofers I have contacted agree that I need another downspout on the main house.
If you are planning on using John P Hansen for any work, I’d truly think twice about it.

John Hansen is a fabulous contractor. He gives 110% for every project he takes on and is very passionate about his work. What really stood out to me is how attentive he is to every detail and doesn’t deliver anything but excellent quality. I highly recomend to use the Hansen Group when remodeling or building your home.

John and the Hansen group have been great to work with. They just finished a renovation on our 1912 craftsman style house and did a wonderful job. they were easy to work with, thier price was better than all the rest and they actually finished when he said they would. after the renovation we had them build a new fence and arbor (it turned out awesome!) now this week they are going to sheetrock and insulate our garage ! I look forward to working with them again and would reccommend them to everybody ! I feel very confident with the Hansen Group :)

My husband and I have worked with John Hansen of The Hansen Group on two projects, on two different homes, in the last seven months. John has all the things we look for in a builder: integrity, highly skilled subs, and completion of the job in a timely manner. We will be going to John for our next project in 2011.
