I was pointed to Glenn by my sail maker then (Rooster Sails) about 15 years ago. Thanks Rooster! Glenn and his crew have never disappointed. Always with the answer, timely manufacturing, service, most competent rigger I have had the pleasure to work with, and I mean with. Totally backs his work, never had an issue with adjustments, just what a boat owner is looking for ~ competent, fair, knowledgeable. Thanks Glenn. You can always send ‘em my way for kudo’s.

Made basic mistakes.
Communication was terrible.
Exceeded estimate substantially
Had Hansen replace the standing rigging on a 30 foot sloop.
He has apparently been rigging a long time, his shop is impressive and he seems to have a good reputation. This job should have been child’s play for him.
He told me he was really busy, however he took the job. My guess is that he really wasn’t interested in my little project, and gave it to his assistant who dropped the ball, unsupervised.
While estimates are exactly that, Hansen doesn’t seem to take them seriously, and exceeded mine without explanation or itemization for labor. In fact… still bragging that he basically nailed it «by marine industry standards»! Some marine estimates can be difficult or impossible to make. This wasn’t one of them.
In a word, I would describe my perception of his service as arrogant.
Update:
I had to laugh! I was talking to a trusted marine professional today. I asked him why a lot of riggers seem to have attitude. I never mentioned Hansen. The guy responded: «I guess some are so busy they think they don’t have to treat the customer well. Then there’s this guy, Glenn Hansen in Alameda… If you’re not a serious racer, he won’t even go on your boat!».
This is EXACTLY the vibe I got. I assume Hansen thought he was doing me a favor because I had my boat at a local yard. Hopefully, he now realizes he wasn’t doing either of us a favor! Note to riggers… If you don’t want the work, simply don’t take it. Save everyone some grief! It’s not rocket science. I could have done this job myself, and in fact, ended up redoing some of Hansen’s work.
