Bert has 10 year background performing in jazz, symphonic and marching bands, and has been spinning records and throwing karaōke events since 1997. He specializes in music from the Big Band era to the Hits of today. He enjoys the crowd and his favorite events are weddings, corporate events, private events or any others where everyone is having a good time.

DJ Bert has been sought out for numerous weddings, live performances, corporate and charity fundraisers. In 2010, his music and lighting effects at Children’s Hospital of Oakland’s Blossom Garden fundraiser was noted by local media as one of the most exciting events in town.

The entertainment at our wedding was excellent — every song cue was done flawlessly, the uplighting was beautiful, and everyone had a great time!
We had a lot of requests and special moments requiring custom music during our reception, and we appreciate all the time and energy Bert spent in meeting with us, and in preparing for the evening. The whole night was executed magnificently!

Bert was our DJ for our wedding ceremony and reception at the Brazilian room in Tilden Park and did a wonderful job. He is friendly and easy to work with, laid back but also professional and attentive. The whole experience felt very personalized. He was excellent at reading the crowd and getting everyone up and active on the dance floor. We also had karaōke and he set up and executed it brilliantly, even with managing a couple of rowdy guests who didn’t want to give up the microphone. The other person who was present from DJ By the Bay was also great, but unfortunately I didn’t get his name. I highly recommend both of them for weddings.

Bert is absolutely the best! We used him for photobooth and uplighting at our wedding this past Saturday. We consulted him a few times on the phone prior, and he was extremely nice and helpful. He was patient with us in selecting the design of the photobooth pictures. He brought a bunch of props for the photobooth, and everyone had an absolute blast! The uplighting was beautiful and very classy. Honestly, I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Bert is amazing. He was my wedding DJ/​MC, but also provided a photobooth and lighting. I was so happy working with him, he always responded to emails within minutes. He kept track of everything and made sure we were happy every step of the way, even when we were being difficult while choosing a photobooth picture background. He did as many revisions as we wanted and each one was great. He also helped us pick music and did a great job filling in the gaps. He played songs that the guests loved. The lighting was beautiful and really transformed the room. He worked well with our Rabbi and Venue coordinator to plan for the day. Everything went smoothly and he did a great job. Very happy with how everything turned out. He’s a great guy and very easy to work with.

DJ Big Kahuna provided music for our corporate event courtesy of DJ By the Bay. He read the crowd just right. The music never lapsed and everyone was moving to the beat, even though it wasn’t a dancing event.

DJ Bert and his team were awesome. He was very responsive with a quote and in helping us plan for our wedding, meeting with us at the venue, and chatting with us over the phone several times. He provided a bunch of documents and information that helped us plan out the music for our wedding reception, but also did a great job of picking songs within genres that we specified and keeping the party going (an hour longer than we had planned!) He got some uncommon (foreign) music to play for our guests in their language, which was a big hit and made them feel right at home. During the event he didn’t draw a lot of attention to himself with unnecessary announcements and such, but rather focused on playing music to fit the mood, so everyone would have a good time. He also helped us pick out and set up the lighting for our reception which looked great, and provided a photo booth which everyone at the wedding enjoyed.

I cannot say enough about Bert and I know our friends and family would agree, he is fantastic! He was our DJ for our wedding Labor Day weekend. Easy to work with, great communication and an all around nice person to be around. He listened to us for selections and made lovely recommendations. Bert did a lot of things for us at our wedding, including lighting our event space, micing our officiant and musicians, DJing, and setting up the photo booth. It is always helps to streamline how many people you’re working with, and I was relieved to have a single person managing all those elements.
Bert was very accommodating to what we wanted and never really passed judgment on things we or other people he had worked with selected for their wedding. A few people I worked with in my wedding planning were constantly bringing up things they didn’t like that other people had done at their previous weddings, like playing certain songs they thought were dumb or including traditional elements that seemed cheesy. Those people left me feeling like I needed to impress them rather than just do what was important to us. I really appreciated that Bert was open minded and retained his opinions for more technical things, like how sound would work in a certain echoey space.
Bert was super responsive on email and phone and met me at both my ceremony and reception sites well in advance to go over layout.
We pre-​selected most of our ceremony and reception music, but gave him more leeway for dance music. The crowd was energized the whole time. There was a lot of value added to having him DJ the music rather than pre-​selecting a play list. The dancing part of our wedding was really fun. He also emceed when needed for toasts and entries, etc.
He seemed competitive on pricing, but I didn’t shop around a ton. I would definitely pay him a premium just for having him handle a lot of things rather than having 3 separate people do lighting, sound, and photo booth.

DJ Bert is my go-​to guy. For real. I’m an events coordinator professionally (and for my family) and he is the best. He is the easiest vendor to work with, super responsive and self sufficient in terms of set-​up and reading the crowd. He has done adult birthday parties for us and just recently a corporate event I coordinated for 250+. He has all of his own uplighting and effects, Karaōke, and every genre of music. And he has fun while he’s working, which makes everyone else have more fun! If you read alot of reviews before making a decision, like I do, just know that Bert is your guy. He is professional, fun and so easy to work with.

First and foremost Bert did an excellent job for our wedding, he is as good as it gets. We hired him to come and do lighting and he went well above and beyond anything we could have asked for. What impressed me the most about Bert is how responsive he was to all my inquiries prior to the event. We hired him 4 – 6 weeks prior as he came highly recommended through a friend (another wedding vendor) and luckily he was available. He was on top of every little detail and was able to decipher my interpretation of how my wife-​to-​be wanted the look and feel of our day — and like most people, never having planned a wedding before and choosing a venue (The Bently Reseve) that was not all inclusive trying to figure out what is actually needed for the space was well above my head. He was able to provide thoughtful insight on what was actually needed and not overselling anything that was not necessary for the space. And the fact that he was so responsive, put my very well at ease and allowed me to focus on other details of the wedding.
I would definitely recommend Bert and would seek him again should I be in need of lighting.

Burt was our favorite wedding vendor. In short: he was super on top of his game, quick reply to emails, quick to think of solutions, and quick to run to rescue when our coordinator /​venue dropped the ball.
We had a semi complicated wedding with a lot of moving parts. We had to find a play list that worked for a wide range of audiences. a good chunk of our 100+ guests of all ages danced until 1am. so were assuming everyone liked the music. :)

This review is LONG overdue, but better late than never!
Not only did I have Bert as a DJ for my wedding, but he is also on my preferred vendor list at my place of employment where I also work as an event planner.
Bert is extremely flexible and easy to work with. He offers lighting packages and many other add-​ons! He is very professional and knows his stuff. You really can leave everything to him and you will be guaranteed a great night for your guests.
As for all of the clients that have worked with him for events here at the University Club where I work, I know they have all been very pleased. As for myself as a client, I can tell you that I still get people telling me how much fun they had at my wedding and that they danced all night! And the lighting he did looked absolutely phenomenal. I had uplights and gobo washes on the walls and ceiling. If you book him, definitely ask him about lighting packages.

While we didn’t have Bert as the DJ for our wedding, he provided uplighting for us on the recommendation of the DJ company we went with. And let me just say that I am sooooo glad that we went with him. Ladies, if you’re planning your wedding or any other event, don’t bust your budget on flowers. Use it on lighting! It will absolutely make the room. We went with low cost Costco flowers (which were great quality) and mason jars for the centerpieces on the tables, but the uplighting around the room made everything look so magical.
Bert was very thorough with everything. He provided the colors that we wanted (orange and blue) and had us send him the layout of the room along with where we wanted him to place the lights in the room. His pricing was super competitive as well. On the day of the wedding, he went above and beyond to make sure that everything was perfect. When he was setting up the lighting, he could tell that the number of lights that we had agreed to were not going to be enough to get that WOW factor. So he added in a few more lights at no cost (without telling us)! All so we could have that ambiance that we were looking for. I cannot emphasize enough how great everything looked with that lighting. One of the best decisions I could have made for the wedding. =)

We hired DJ Bert for a school auction and he was AMAZING! He took care of the lights, music, sound (worked with the auctioneer who was not easy), and offered his experience when we were discussing all aspects of the event. For all the checking and rechecking that needs to be done when planning an event like this, I had not one worry with Bert. I found he checked in more with me than I with him. After our first meeting I knew he had it all under control!
He makes the music fit the mood and was able to work the crowd with (seemingly) little effort.
If I ever find myself involved with another event in need of a DJ, I would put DJ Bert on the top of the list!

Bert was a great guy to work with. He has Djayed several parties for us the last one was Feb 16th 2013. It was for my son’s 21st birthday party. It was a mixture of people from his friends SCU students and our family ranging in age from 18 – 84 years. Everyone had a great time. He kept the music flowing one song right into another. The music was great. He also set up lights that were fun and really enhanched the party atmosphere. I would definitly recommend him to anyone looking for a great guy with loads of music and the ability to work within a budget. He is really a professional. He also helped us with a video and never rushed us.

We hired DJ Bert (DJ By the Bay) for our wedding a few months ago and he did a wonderful job. Bert is easy to work with, friendly, and very professional. He knows his music and is able to drive the music selections with just a bit of guidance, or accommodate your specific requests, whichever style you prefer. He built on the specific ideas that we had and offered some of his own. For example, I told him that my dad was hesitant to do a father-​daughter dance, and he suggested choosing a song for the dance and doing it without an announcement. My dad was fine with this arrangement and in the end we were happy that we did it.
Bert is also detail oriented and thorough, which we really appreciated. Together we walked through exactly how the ceremony and the rest of the evening would go in terms of music. Through this process, we realized just how important the DJ is to the event and were very grateful to have someone as reliable and professional as Bert running the show. I highly recommend DJ By the Bay!

Bert was fantastic! This is the one aspect of our wedding that I asked my fiancé to take care of and I have to admit I was a little nervous but once I met Bert I knew he had made the right choice. He responded to all of our emails quickly, played everything we wanted him to play and none of our do not play songs. He didn’t make the night about him like I’ve seen at many weddings, he just played great music and kept everyone dancing the entire night. None of our guests wanted to leave at the end of the night, everyone was on the dance floor. His prices were great and he provided uplighting for our space which transformed our space from looking old and dated to looking hip and trendy. If you’re having any doubts about who you should hire I would 100% recommend Bert– he’s awesome!
