There aren’t a whole lot of choices on Makalapa base for lunch. It’s either Subway, the sandwich selection at the Mini Mart or Kristen’s. Today was my first try and I selected on the Bento Box($ 9) which had a lot of variety: spam, teriyaki, katsu and choice of salmon or mahi mahi. The bento was good, but nothing to rave about.

They now operate on the military navy base at Pearl Harbor by the Pac Af bldg in Makalapanso you only can go to this truck if you have military base access. But for those of you that do have access, they serve breakfast and lunch plates. Today, I tried the beer batter Ono fish w rice and tossed greens and Italian dressing. So Ono! The tarter sauce they used was excellent. Regular plate was $ 11 and mini was $ 9. It was so good I should have got a regular plate. Other items on the menu today included meat loaf, shrimp curry and chili frank w rice and a lunch bento. It was my first time trying this lunch truck. I will definitely be back! Even though pricy, the quality is excellent for a lunch truck.

Meh. Serving lunch outside the PACAFHQ building now. Plates run $ 9 – 11. I had the Beef Curry and my 3 friends had the Turkey Plate. The food was nothing special, and the Mac was really mayo & mac, emphasis on the mayo. Service is very friendly, but that doesn’t make up for the poor quality/cost ratio. Pass.

I must say, I was a little weary on a food truck, but after trying Kristen’s Lunch Wagon, I am a repeat customer! Kristen and her help are so sweet and down to earth. They cater to the needs and wants of the customer. They have daily lunch specials that are sure to please any ones appetite. The selections are great too. One of our favorite is Thursday’s enchiladas. The portion is HUGE and it is ONLY $ 7.50. The mac salad is wonderful too, which is an item I am picky about anywhere I go. All her dishes I have tried are really good, CHEAP prices, and LARGE portions! A little note, she has a restaurant in Waipahu that we frequent too!

My mom and I drove past the wagon on our way to Cosmoprof and figured we’d give it a try on our way back. We looked on the whiteboard menu and tried the shoyu chicken and roast pork mix combo. Everything was good. Even the service was efficient, especially since it was raining.

This Plate lunch wagon is located outside the animal quarentine station on Halawa Valley Road. They arrive at 11:00 am and park on the mountain side of the entrance. Each day they have a variety of selections but their staples are: Roast Pork($ 6.50), Beef Stew($ 6.50) shoyu chicken($ 6.50). Specails on Thursday usually are: Chicken Enchilada($ 7.00), fish of the day($ 7.00) today was sauteed ono, withmushroom tomato & basil sauce last week was mahi), meat of the day($ 7.00)(today was corn beef n cabbage, last week was prime rib)., buffalo chicken($ 6.50). You gotta get there early cause most of the plates run out by noon. The flavoring is excellent! they give plenty food the chicken enchiladas are to die for… If you want a mixed plate gotta add-on $ 1.00 and a mini plate you can subtract a $ 1.00. Probably the best plate lunch wagon in Halawa valley!
