Aiea Hongwanji Mission

This is a review for the bon dance on Saturday, August 27, 2011.
Parking Wise: If you are handicap, come super early there is some parking space in the front of the church reserved for those with a placard. For others, there were 2 other locations nearby and street parking available. They also passed out flyers listing the alternate sites to people looking for parking.
Food Wise: I loved the andagi here, the inside was nicely soft and moist while the outside had a nice crunch to it. It had a great flavor to it, not overpowered by anything, but just right. It wasn’t oily at all. I can’t say enough about it. You just have to try it for yourself. There were other things to eat such as teri burgers, kalibi plates and chicken plates, but the andagi took the spotlight in the end.
Music Wise: Live music was provided by Aiea Taiheji Yagura Gumi and Hawaii Eisa Shinyuu Kai. While there was also the usual assortment of recorded music. Tonight’s live music had a great feel to it as the crowd got involved and heishi’ed along with the musicians.
Overall: Great turn out, great food and great music was had at this bon dance tonight. Can’t wait til next year to be able to experience this all over again.
