Uptown Movers

n context, my wife is a doctor, I am a lawyer — neither of us are movers and neither of us have any concept of moving truck sizes to apartment ratio. Thus, in the past, the movers we hired sent two movers and a truck — said movers loaded said truck, moved from Rockwall, TX to Dallas, TX and unloaded said truck in about 5 hours. Thus, when I received a quote from Stonebriar Moving Services a/​k/​a Uptown Movers (not sure why they call themselves Stonebriar on here v. Uptown Movers on the trucks) for two men and a 16′ truck — I figured that was what was needed for our move from Dallas, TX to Rockwall, Tx.
The move was for a hourly quote — I think, in hind sight, hourly is a terrible way to go.
The two movers showed up within the move window. They then spent the next hour wrapping things in shrinkwrap — including items we already wrapped in shrinkwrap. While it seemed like a lost hour to me — so be it, better that it all arrive safe than sorry.
Fast forward four hours — I start to wonder what is going on as the movers spend more and more time at their truck rather than moving items. One mover was constantly on his phone, and the other — well the other was trying to figure out how to get our stuff to fit.
In short, the truck was too small to accommodate our move — despite informing the movers of what exactly the move would entail. Thus, I estimate that an hour was spent just loading things onto the truck, then loading them off the truck, then on again, while they try to «tetris» our belongings onto the truck.
Finally, it became apparent that not everything would fit. I text a representative (if not owner) of the company, about the issue and he called me back. I explained the delima — he informed me that they send what they send and it takes as long as it takes, so if two trips is required — that’s what they will do to get it moved.
I told him I would send the truck on one trip and handle the rest myself and let the reviews fall where they may. The person I was talking to then HUNG UP on me.
I was then left a voicemail stating that they would be willing to deduct an hour of time but only if I left a positive review before the movers finished. I declined.
After inspecting the move — our couch was damaged and glass was broken. I informed the same representative of the issues and he told me he would be happy to repair the couch and would send me a claim’s form for broken glass. I gave him an email address to send the form, but I have not received that form.
So, not only did the movers spend an hour wrapping our furniture for protection — it failed to actually protect our couch.
So, unless you are confident that all of your belonging will fit within the specified truck length they send, you might end up in our situation — where they have to take two trips.
We declined the second trip — cancelled our maids that were sent to come for the move out clean, and finished moving ourselves.
Oh, and they claim no hidden fees — but when I went to pay by card, they were going to charge me a 3. something % fee for using a card… sounds hidden to me.

The property manager at our new apartment told us that this was the «worst move they had ever seen.» It was embarrassing. Uptown Movers was so late that we couldn’t use the freight elevators at the new apartment. Tyler at Uptown Movers tried to charge us with a «travel fee» of $ 75 even though his offer explicitly said there would be no such fee. There were other hidden fees for materials. A two-​hour job took all day, and we were overcharged for it by $ 200. I actually had to cancel part of the move and find other movers at the last minute. Tyler had excuses for everything, but no solutions. Truly a miserable experience.

Scheduled a Sunday move with them to deliver a washer and dryer within the same complex and up two flights of stairs. They never got back to us with a quote like they said they would, but whatever, we just want the stupid things moved. They were late on Sunday, when we had the initial appointment, and blamed it on a job that went late. Whatever, we understood, rescheduled for Monday at 4.
By 4:30, we called again. They apologized and said someone would be there at 5.
Nobody showed up.
We called at 5:30 to cancel, because if they handle furniture and appliances with the same care as they handle their scheduling calendar, we’d have sheets of metal for a washer and dryer.
The guy didn’t care, «You wanna just cancel? Okay.»
I have no idea where they get the money to not care about customer service, because they’re not going to get it from customers who look at their Unilocal reviews.
Oh, and I see that the owner is trying to respond to customer complaints here but don’t bother. You got two bad reviews for the one job you screwed up because you missed two appointments on two different days and affected two schedules.

We booked these folks to literally move a washer and dryer across a parking lot. They were late Sunday night, so I was super understanding and said that Monday around 4 or 4:30 was alright. 4 came and went…4:30 came and went… and when I called, the guy who answered said that someone named Rob or Roy was five minutes out and would call me.
Fast forward to 5:30. No call. No Rob, and no Roy. I called and told the guy to forget it, and he was shockingly cavalier about the whole thing. No wonder… it seems to happen every day with these folks.

I had a quote of $ 70 an hour 2 hour minimum for two guys with a $ 35 trip fee. The two guys were very friendly however it seems like it was the first time they had ever worked together and as a result one guy kept telling the other why he was doing what he was doing and caused the move to go much slower than it should have been. I only hired them to move items I could not get in my car which was only 11 items. One love seat, two boxes, two bar stools, one mattress, one box spring, small computer desk, one 4 drawer Ikea chest of drawers with nothing in it, one tv stand & one TV
I was only moving 1.5 miles down the street they literally only had to take two streets (Fitzhuge and Cole) which took them 30 minutes to get to on a Saturday morning with no traffic (which should have only taken 8 minutes tops)
The total move took almost 4 hours on a move that should have barley taken 2 hours. If the guys worked better together it would have moved much faster (I even had to help to pick up the pace).
I’ve used movers before from Arlington to the location I just left which was 22 miles and the move only took 3 hours.
Would I use Uptown movers again? Yes however the next time I will have to make sure I use time management for them.

After much thought and consideration of what I recently experienced, its sad but this has to be done. Hopefully customer service and professionalism will be a priority in the future for this company.

Family owned company. It’s a shame they don’t know how to handle their business better. They are always overbooked and break commitments. Then they yell and swear at you when you are trying to be flexible and work with their messed up schedule.
I now understand why this company has poor reviews.
Our first move went fairly well, our second time to use them was horrible. It truly made me appreciate great movers.

I agree with Stacy above they deserves 0 stars!!! and here’s why … we booked about 2 weeks ahead of our moving time with a promised Sat morning 8÷2÷2014 8−10am arrival time this is what we got in an email!!! not even a call, I had to call him

so I called and Tyler said he will try to find someone (his friends) to see if he can do it for us in the afternoon but he couldn’t find anyone, so then we got pushed to Sunday afternoon 2−4pm I thought being delayed a day and moved to the afternoon slot with a promised 20% discount (over the phoned) could possibly save this bad review but nope… here’s what happened! I emailed him Sunday morning to confirm the appointment myself.

Tyler I understand but we have a schedule and window of time as well I’m sure you understand that’s why we decided with professional movers I thought since you bumped us a day late gives us priority today and we trusted you to show up at 2−4pm today that’s why I’ve been busy organizing to pushing all other things back as well. Now being pushed again to after 5pm and another 4+ hours of moving with your hard working, tired out guys just won’t cut it even with the discount. I won’t have any time to settle in or time to clean up my old place, I’ll also be fined and have to pay extra bills at the old place etc.
Thanks but we won’t be needing your service today or ever, I’ll seek another company to move next week and cut my losses here and eat a week of fines and bills and not being moved this weekend. Thanks for your time.

packing /​moving is a pain already! this is the main reason people hire professional moving company in my example and the one Stacy gave above… I’m truly glad I didn’t use UPTOWN MOVERS because of their over booking and unorganized business if you book someone then follow through or if delay someone make them a priority the next day not keep pushing it back with uncertainty of arrival time etc. I’m sure Tyler and his men are working like dogs due to bad management and book keeping I’m truly surprised how he’s able to stay in business with this type of work ethics. sorry to say I can’t recommend his service or his company to anyone. good thing I didn’t pay or sign any contract or else I’d be filing complaint to BBB right now instead of writing review on Unilocal!!!hope our next company will do better… or simply show up ha!

This deserves zero stars!!! 1^st off this is my 1^st review ever. This guy Tyler is AWFUl!!!
He is very very unprofessional & rude!
I hired him several months ago to move me this past Sunday. He emailed me with a quote & the the window time. He said he would be at my apt from 8 – 10. The night before he texted me & changed the time to 10 – 12. By the end of it all the movers arrived 8 hrs later. It was not even Tyler or his company. He over booked himself & sent someone else. The two men that showed up were trying to quote me a different price & add in fees Tyler never told me about. One of the guys spent lots of time on his cell phone & was very rude. The other guy was actually really nice. I did have a heck of a move … Long hallways & heavy furniture, but that’s why I hired movers.
I had 12 items… Big items though. It took them 5 hrs!!! When they started wrapping my furniture they were taking forever & my dad actually starting moving stuff himself. It was a nightmare. By the end of the move… They had scratched my dresser… Dropped my mattress in the rain & left black marks all over it. Their truck was leaking rain water inside so my couch cushions were wet & dirty & the bottom of my new dining room table was scratched in several places. So Tyler ends up showing up to my new apt towards the end of the move… I’m showing him my couch cushions & he told me to throw them in the washer. He told me if he had a marker in his pocket he would fix my dresser. He looked at me in the face & said well… It was a hard move. Exactly that’s why I hired professionals (I thought) Are you kidding!!! I have nice & expensive furniture. There was zero apology. He was a complete jerk!!! He called me a liar to my face about the time he originally had me booked so I had to show him the email myself. I can go on & on. It was the WORST experience ever!!! He still made me pay full price… Never apologized. I will make it known to everyone how awful this experience was. Please please do not put yourself through this experience. #1 worst services I have ever had in my life!!!
