Best grocery store in town, but overcrowded, not enough checkers and why oh why don’t you build a bigger, better store in far South Abilene?

LOVE H-​E-​B! Just wish there was another one.

I used to live close to this store and was in there a lot. I hate the way they change the produce section around so often. I know their reason, but as a shopper, once I learn a store, I don’t like it changed up. The seafood section always has a strong smell, unlike Market Place. Good prices, good meat. Always crowded and hard to find a parking place close to the store; handicap spaces are almost ALWAYS taken.

I’m not very happy with HEB right now. Bought Streamline Organic Raspberry Jam, opened it, spread it on the bread, and when I went to close it I noticed some fuzzy black stuff on the lid that didn’t look good and I didn’t like. Raspberry is very dark but it’s not black. Then I looked at the expiration date and couldn’t believe it. It had expired on 12-​01-​2013. That’s TWO years ago. Doesn’t anyone go through the shelves as they stock new things and throw whatever is old? Do I have to look at every item’s expiration date while I shop so I don’t end up getting poisoned by old and bad food? I thought it was the store’s job to throw the old away. I am glad my kids and I didn’t eat it because I can’t imagine how sick we would’ve been. Shame on you HEB!

Love this place, because it’s has some Asian Products which plus on my book, but not a whole lot though. I wish they would have more varieties or different selection. But hey, I can’t complain right… Oh and I love their produce section, they look amazingly fresh…

Not from around here but will be soon… I’ve already shopped at a couple of grocery stores here in town but HEB definitely has my buisness from now on. Great prices. fresh food. Lots of variety. haven’t met a rude person yet. I found the HEB ap on my phone… check it out! The prices of each item. not just ad items. and the aisle they can be found on and lots of other great info about each product can be found on the ap… u can also add products to a super convienent shopping list that sorts it by aisle and has the ability for u to cross off things as u go. the digital coupons are pretty cool too… this ap helps a lot!.. the cashier showed me how to use the digital coupons. way easy! There are also really good deals and coupons all over the store. This store offers everything! Biggest meat section I’ve ever seen with a fresh fish deli type thing off to the side… a bakery. a deli… a floral dept… a pharmacy and a bank… I’m probably missing something… I’m so glad to have found a great alternative for 95% of walmart. Being a mom of two young children I most definitely recommending H-​E-​B for its convienent affordable buisness.

HEB… what can i say about HEB…
The samples are amazing and manned by wonderfully courteous vendors, the lime and spicy homemade tortilla chips are to KILL FOR. Their hummus has that special «je né sais quoi». What about the fact that they make their own fresh tortillas i have no trouble gulping down without heating them up?
Their fruits and veggies selection and prices? Amazingly great. Their fish and meat fresh selection borderlines local fisheries and meat stores. The frozen meat/​fish section is their forte.
What about their selection of chorizo (i could have chorizo y papas for breakfast lunch and dinner).
All this covers just ¹⁄₃ of this location.
They constantly run sales and coupons from magazines are always honored (though they frown on extreme couponers and limit their use responsibly).
I wish there were an HEB in each city of the world… it would help me miss it less than i actually do now that i moved away.

I did a cost comparison spreadsheet one time. I took my receipts from Wal Mart and HEB, and loaded them into an excel spreadsheet to compare overall cost we’d be spending at each store. HEB won as being cheaper than Wal-​Mart. I then went to Albertsons and United to make a comparison. I didn’t buy anything at those places, I just went around filling out my spreadsheet; they are so expensive I can’t believe people even shop at those places.
So, I shop at HEB. Also, HEB has more products to choose from.

Always love HEB. I’d much rather drive the extra miles to go here besides Walmart. Good prices and the bakery produces absolutely exquisite treats. Try the homemade tortillas!!! Or homemade chips!!!

Parking is plentiful, you might have a stroll to the doors, get a basket on the way. Produce is fresh, plentiful. Fresh baked goods! A real Fish Monger! You must try the Fajita meats like Chicken, pork or beef, Amazing! Everything for everybody. Checkout lines are all open. Great place, look for the specials!

My favorite for fruits and vegetables. They have lots of hard to find items. Usually has the best specials on steaks.

If you don’t mind the crowd it’s a good place to shop… wouldn’t say safe, but cheap.

HEB is full of items you can’t find at other stores. The produce section has a lot to choose from. Many things you don’t find at other stores. When I am looking for a specialty food item, I turn to HEB and if they don’t have it then I probably don’t need it. The store always seems clean and the isles are hardly blocked unless they are restocking. I usually try to look and see if there are any carts left before I leave the parking lot because many times the place where the carts go can be empty and you would need to get one from the parking lot. Some prices seem higher than other store but you are getting better quality. If HEB doesn’t have it then you don’t need it.

Good place to get groceries especially if you need a specialty item that isn’t going to be carried at Walmart or Albertson’s. the only thing I don’t like is the fishy smell in the meat department. I realise that fish is going to smell like fish but it is terrible. I still enjoy shopping here despite that because they have good prices and a lot of products are organic and locally grown. HEB does a lot to help the economy in our community.

Huge selection and cheap prices. I left here with a cart full of food for under $ 175. The store is clean and check-​out is quick.

I don’t think we have been to an HEB before, and it was quite a fun experience. My boyfriend had wanted some dessert for the night and we decided to check out the bakery here knowing that some of the choices in other grocery stores aren’t the best in this area. I was really surprised when we walked in, this place is probably just as big if not bigger than the Walmart. The bakery section has tables and tables of selection. Most everything looked like it was cooked that day and not shipped in on a truck. Not to mention the prices were awesome! I found an individual pecan pie slice in a plastic container, with the cutest little plastic fork inside so you can even take it to go and enjoy it at a park or ball game. I thought that little touch was very thoughtful.
My boyfriend decided to get some type of strawberry cheese coffee cake because they had a coupon laying on top of the container that gave you an extra dollar off when you purchased it. I think it came out to just over two dollars, and my pecan pie slice was a little over a buck.
If we ever have a chance to grocery shop here I will certainly be back. The aisles were full of things you would never see at Walmart or other places.

K I’m going to start with the parking lot… yuck can you please get on your parking lot attendants with strays carts. Alright produce here sucks can you hire those that want to do their jobs efficiently please the produce is always rotting or not put out. I’ve come here and majority of the fruit has mold growing already. I do like there meal deals and in store coupons that’s a plus, also meat selections are good. Seafood selections are skim and overpriced. Sushi bar is terrible here please no one eat the sushi here. My HEB in Austin actually had a great sushi bar with those making sushi right in front of you fresh so seeing this one is meh. The check stands are narrow I can only fit the shopping cart through each checkout lane, the cashiers need to be better train here on coupons and customer interaction, not sure if management has a clue at this store and I know this doesn’t matter to some people but they look sloppy and it matters to me please look professional. They don’t have a bagger half the time which is fine when I prefer to bag my own things but what about those who can’t. I will continue to shop here for half my shopping BC this is the only HEB in town and I HATE Walmart.

I thought I would do a little comparison shopping, so I hit up HEB on a Monday evening. Big mistake. There were NO carts. At all. I had to walk back and forth by the checkout lanes so I could ask somebody if they were done using theirs. After obtaining one, I had to try to make my way through a ton of people in each aisle. I know this isn’t the stores fault; it would just be nice if people were aware of other people when they are shopping. I had heard a lot of great things about their prices, but I wasn’t impressed. I would have saved a bit more elsewhere.
I stood in line for awhile, although they did have almost all of the stands open. When it was my turn, the cashier, nor the courtesy clerk acknowledged me in any way. I’ve worked in many customer service jobs, and it is not hard to say hello or another simple greeting. The kicker was the checker in the next stand with no customers (he had a ten items or less lane). He thought it would be professional to have a conversation with the checker who was ringing me up and he also didn’t greet me.
If I wanted crappy service and idiotic people, I would have just gone to WalMart and saved a few bucks.

HEB is the place for a good deal on your groceries. Everyone else must think so too, cause its always crowded! The bakery and produce sections are huge and have a really good selection. See you there.
