This review is long overdue. I probably ate at Jahangir at least weekly when I lived in St. Andrews. In addition to having a delicious menu and a very skilled kitchen, the staff are so wonderful and friendly. We have rolled in at ridiculous hours when they were about to close and they’ve still seated us. At this point, I’ve had most of the menu. I particularly like the lamb curry on the bone(the house special), the vindaloo and the Achari tikka with Peshawari naan(which the staff recommended and now I get it all the time). I also like all the veggie sides and usually get one with my dinner. On visits where we have been indecisive, the chef, Walid, has just made what he has felt like making and it has always been delicious. Ask the staff for recommendations — they take their menu seriously and will work hard to make sure you get a meal you like. They’ve got a surprisingly good wine list. I particularly like the NZ pinot noir. Pairs very well. Also, great mango lassis. Décor may be a bit cheesy, but it’s a situation where you just go with it. And the little fish pond is cute and fun. In all, worth a visit on any trip to St. Andrews. Definitely the best South Asian restaurant in town and one of the best all-around dinners. Since moving to London, I haven’t found a place that is quite the same, and London is a good town for South Asian food.

We loved this place. Great food and service. Very helpful and Tiger Beer to drink.

I went to the Jahangir a couple of years ago and was very impressed. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is good. The front of the restaurant is misleading as it is much bigger inside than it first appears. I would recommend it to any lover of Indian food.

I’ve been here a few times over the years, and have never had a bad experience. Definitely a fan of the fixed price lunches. Appetizer, main dish, and dessert for £6−9 is very much up my alley. And the food has always been delicious! I had a really great korma with chili on my most recent trip, and the chicken tikka masala(apparently this is how I judge Indian restaurants). The service is prompt and friendly, and the restaurant is great. I particularly like the little bridge over the river. And the fish! I’m a sucker for theatrics.

Ughhhh… Ok so I may have to go back and actually sit in this place but last night a couple friends and I got take out from this place and I was extremely disappointed for a few reasons: 1. Everyone had been telling me that this place was the best Indian in town, but honestly it was watered down and unimpressive. I like the other Indian restaurant Marisha(on College street) better not only because their curries have more flavour but their sauces(chutneys and sauces for the pakora) didn’t taste like KETCHUP… ugh. 2. It took this place an hour to make our take out order! SERIOUSLY? I know that Indian takes longer to cook then most things. BUTSERIOUSLY… ANHOUR??? 3. I just finished the left overs from last night and they were better the NEXTDAY. JEEZZZZ… 4. It was more expensive… and not as good. * On the plus side the naan was better then the other Indian restaurant and we did get a TON of food. But seriously, I was so disappointed. Maybe it will be better if next time I go and sit down in the restaurant but I am not sure I am willing to give Jahangir a second chance… […sorry everyone I meant to take a picture of the food but I forgot…]

I have never eaten in the Jahangir but I have had many takeaways from it. I really like their curries, the menu is varied, well written, gives you some clue as to how mild or hot a curry will be(great for someone like me who can’t manage spicy food but is fed up of eating bland kormas!). I like the mirchi kurma very much, creamy and spicy. Service is great, if you call up to place an order they are polite and quick. Food never takes a long time to cook either. One day soon I should walk down there and eat in, Im sure I won’t be disappointed!
