Looking for somewhere to go with my 10-year-old step son and other half for dinner one Saturday night, we decided to stay local and go to Frankie and Benny’s Hamilton. Even though we had booked a table for 5:30pm, we waited over 45 mins to get a seat! Eventually seated, we got our drinks and ordered some food. I opted for the chicken burger and when it came it was as dry as anything! No waiter asked if our meal was ok, because I couldn’t see one on the floor else it would have went back. I was really disappointed by this and told the staff when the bill came but it was like ‘Oh well’ attitude. Wont be back!

my first Frankie and Benny’s experience, and yeah. It is what it is, you know? It’s very nice inside, but you get the feeling that any Frankie and Benny’s location would be the same. It has that vast enorm-o-chain feel to it. While it doesn’t make anywhere feel special, but it assures you that you know what you get. The food? Pretty standard chain fare, I would say. I opted for the black pepper mayo burger, topped with bacon and fries on the side. The fries felt like they were pre-packaged and delivered in bulk, but were fine. The burger was nice, without being memorable, but the black pepper may was superb. The highlight of the visit was the staff. Our table was basically one entire wing of the restaurant(there were about 30 people there) and our waiter never missed a beat once, and remained friendly and funny all night long. Even a birthday cake presentation with candles, music and dimmed lights was carried off with precision! All of the main courses arrived at once, no mean feat for that amount of people, and drinks were offered as soon as they were required. I wouldn’t head back here for the food ahead of a few other places, but the staff’s hard work and attitude would convince me to drop in more often. Well done, fellas. Not sure if it was Frankie or Benny that served us though…

Alright food, nothing special. I would say pub grub style possibly slightly higher than pub grub. Don’t expect a show stopper of a dish. The chicken wings for starters are horrible, they are always cremated to the extent they have charcoal on them and almost break your teeth. Most of the staff are friendly and they have a small but well stocked bar. Only go as it’s close to the complex.

I’ll be honest: I can’t understand the infatuation with Frankie & Benny’s. the restaurants are well decorated, have a great atmosphere, are efficient and the staff are lovely. But the food just tastes like land, mass produced ready meals. I’ve eaten here a few times(against my will) and all the while I’m thinking«Why am I not in Di Maggios?» No disrespect — each to their own — but I wouldn’t pay for their food again.

Decided to go in here for dinner the other night with the other half and our friend, and was not disappointed! We arrived about 8pm on Guy Fawkes Night, and as there was a massive bonfire display in Strathclyde Park 2 minutes away, the roads were mobbed, the exact opposite of the restaurant. We were surprised that upon entering there was maybe only 10 tables in, but sure as can be they filled up over the course of the display finishing. As it was relatively quiet when we went in, we were taken to our table by the host and drinks were ordered efficiently! We did experience a bit of a wait for the drinks coming back, but the chat was good so it didn’t affect the experience. We decided on starters and he took our order to the kitchen. Between us we ordered the bruschetta, the crispy coated chicken strips, and the warm dough sticks with a garlic butter dip. The starters were brought out within 10 minutes, and I like the fact in Frankie and Benny’s you can see your food being made and when it’s ready, so you know if your food’s sitting for longer than it needs to be. Despite cleaning the plate of the magnificently season bruchetta I was given, I think I probably ate half of the dough sticks as well. Oh my heavenly lord, the garlic butter was like the melted body of God himself. After I had calmed down from the taste explosion that garlic butter was, we had our table cleared and prepped for our main courses. We did wait a good 25 minutes for the mains which was a pest, as the starters had made us hungry for more. Colin ordered the simple, yet always incredibly appealing on any menu Spaghetti Bolognese, and our friend had the Cajun Chicken Melt Wrap with chips. I opted for the New Yorker Calzone, a gorgeous calzone filled with spicy pepperoni, ham, bacon and mozzarella, and topped with a homemade Neapolitan tomato and herb sauce. To. Die. For. I’ve never actually tried a calzone before, but I would definitely have this one again and again, that’s how good it was. The waiter came shortly after finishing and collected my wiped-clean plate, and Colin and I decided we’d have some sorbet to finish off the meal. I went for the lemon, one of the only desserts I’ll eat(not a big dessert person!), and Colin chose the strawberry. I kid you not, this was the most superb lemon sorbet I have ever tasted, and believe me I have tried a lot! This is somewhere I will definitely be returning to once in a while, and somewhere you should go too! Just go for dinner tonight, you know you want to!

I am never disappointed when I come here. The staff are all very well trained and efficient. From the moment that they sit you down you feel properly looked after. The childrens’ meals are a proper variety of good nutritional meals. The restaurant is based on the New York Italian diners that offer pizzas, pasta and burgers.(there are a lot of other dishes too). I like the comfortable booths and the décor. The walls are plastered with hundreds of black and white photos of old famous movie stars and baseball players from old New York. They play lots of old rock’n’roll tunes as well. They sell pre-prepared compilation CD’s of all the music you here.(bit pricey though). This is a great place for popping into after the cinema, or if you have a big party, or if you’re on a date, or even if you just fancy a good meal on your own.

Just back from a meal at this Frankie and Benny’s in Hamilton. I went with some old friends because Frankie and Benny’s has something for everyone. I would say it is mainly an italien restuarant but done in a really American style; everything is cheesy from the blurbs on the menus to the constant swing music in the background which i secretly quite like. This is quite a small Frankie and Benny’s which means it is usually crowded and tonight was no exception. Just remember if you want to go here on a Wednesday night or a weekend then book! These are the busiest nights(due to it being next to a cinema, Orange Wednesday punters come here before) We chose from the Winter Warmer set menu. I opted out of a starter and shared some Garlic bread instead which is actually a garlic pizza base, really thin and delicious. The only irritating thing is that they don’t cut it into slices so it can get a bit messy. For main, i chose the New Yorker pasta which i have had before and really liked. They seemed to have changed the sauce this time though to make it thinner, but it was still nice all the same with a cheese and pepper kick to it. There is loads on the plate aswell so i was stuffed! As i said we were ordering from the set menu so we had to get a dessert! We all went for the Sticky Toffee Pancakes which were gorgeous! Yum! Two pancakes with banana slices, toffee ice cream and crunchy toffee sauce between them. I left half of it though because i was so full from the main! Really lovely, and for 5 of us with 2 drinks each it came to just over 75.00 which i thought was great value for money. Frankie and Benny’s is a good meeting place as they can accommodate groups and the service is always very efficient. If you’re not into old Frank Sinatra on repeat though, you may go a bit crazy!

A cracking Frankie and Benny’s in Hamilton, near Glasgow, just off the M8. Easy to get to by train, direct from Glasgow Central or express bus, from Buchanan Bus Station. It is big inside, and really clean and well presented with comfy booths. The menu is immense, with good grills and pizzas and if you go during the day the lunch menu works out at great value for money. They do a 25% off the total food bill on Monday’s too. It’s right next to the Vue cinema and a cheeky wee combo of the two is always a favourite treat of mine when I’m over that way. It gets hefty busy in the evenings, particularly on weekends. That being said, you dont need to wait too long on the food and the waiting staff know their job well and will happily make amendments to your order to accommodate for fusspots like me.
