Have used this restaurant for literally twenty years; i’ve been taken here ever since I was a baby, and I have to say my parents have tremendous taste. Although the new exterior isn’t all that flash, the inside is a mix of homely and elegance. I recommend asking for a table next to the fishbowl lined wall; especially if you have kids, they will be occupied for hours. The prices are mega cheap and the food is beautiful, and served on a hot plate in the middle of the table. I personally recommend the chicken korma, and of course a naan bread for all the sauce. They have a pretty decent bar and are rarely very busy, though you may need to book on more busy holidays.

Long my girlfriend and her mates’ Indian of choice, the Standard is an old-school post-pub Indian located a few minutes stumble from the Bear Tavern. In all honesty, the internal décor of the Standard is a little, well, bog-standard, especially given how flash some of the more modern, bechromed tandoori restaurants can be. That doesn’t affect the food however, which is excellent, as is the service. The prices aren’t bad either, which makes it three goods to one average. If you want to make your meal the focal point of your evening(for instance, if you’re on a first date), then I’d say there are better Indian’s in the area. If however, you’re a bit drunk(or a bit skint) and want a really nice, well-priced balti. Then this is the place for you.
