Penarth Railway Station

Penarth Train Station is the place you get off the train to go to Penarth. Funny that, huh? The ticket office is rarely manned or wo-​manned. There’s nowhere to properly shelter from the rain or sit down when waiting for trains, so just hope it isn’t delayed and look up your timetable before you travel to best plan your journey.
You can always grab a pint in the nearby Railway Pub or shelter and be cultured whilst looking around the exibition at Ffotogallery, which is equally close, FREE, and well worth the trip.
Personally I think the Cardiff Central to Penarth journey is really overpriced, as someone who had to do it a lot. [Insert additional British Transport gripes here].

Penarth Railway Station is considerably smaller than nearby Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street Stations, but it’s clean and functional, with trains departing frequently to the Big Smoke and other surrounding areas.
For such a tiny hub, I was shocked to find someone actually working behind the window; plus, the pamphlets section was fully stocked and the posters weren’t yet trashed by the sub-​par scratchings of some local imbecile.
The best part about this station is its proximity to local shops and bars (even if it’s only The Railway pub, at least you can get a quick pint down you before catching your train).
It’s easily accessible for wheelchair, pram and pushchair users, as Penarth Railway Station only has one measly platform, which I’m secretly grateful for, as it saves me from any pre-​travelling panic or confusion.

There’s not much that I can add besides what Tanya has already mentioned but I do like that Penarth train station has a couple of little shops nearby so if you’re waiting on that lonely platform then chocolate is never too far away.
I like that it’s more sheltered than Dingle road and so when it’s raining there is less jostling for space and unlike the other Penarth station this one is manned though not always. It can be useful when you want to buy a ticket in advance or ask for information on routes that they cover.

Penarth Railway Station is, I’ve always thought, exceptionally small considering the area it’s bringing people to. Penarth is hardly a busy and bustling city station, like Cardiff.
This railway station has but one platform, and is the end of the line (at least there’s never any confusion). Services run to Tredegar and Bargoed only, but all trains pass through Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street. Trains leave every 15 mins during the day, 30 mins at night until 11pm.
Can you tell I use this station a lot?
Although it is sometimes staffed (weekdays until 2.30pm), most of the time the main building is closed and passengers have to leave and enter the station platforms via a side gate.
This station is small, but functional. At least you’ll never be stuck waiting there for too long.
