George Thomas Hospice Shop

Although the George Thomas Hospice charity shop is not as well presented as its counterparts, it still offers a fairly wide range of clothing, toys and books.
The selection of bric-​à-​brac isn’t as extensive as I had hoped, although there were a few packed shelves with «Everything is a £1.00» labelled on the ledges. I did manage to find a small tub of 12-​inch records, but after a quick flip through found nothing I’d want to buy, unfortunately.
I was struck by the amount of men’s clothing on display — suits, jackets, coats, trousers — normally charity shops seem to cater to female shoppers, but I’d definitely say George Thomas was male-​orientated. There’s also a high shelf displaying a wide selection lampshades, if you’re in need of a light bulb cover.
The trio of ladies manning the shop were charming, adding a welcomed chirpy tête-​à-​tête to the otherwise silent shop floor.

This is exactly what one might expect from a charity shop. They have all the bric-​à-​brac, clothes and books that you might desire. And the friendly older generation of volunteer staff to boot.
Penarth is pretty full of charity shops, and in general they all seem to do quite a good trade; people are always coming and going with a sense of community. Some charity shops are a bit better presented than this one, but George Thomas has a wide array of treasure trove items to spend time browsing through.
They also have very reasonable prices, especially on the clothes. A nice black top I saw in the window the other day (very temporarily) was priced at only £3. Bargain.
While this shop is indeed a little dated. It has everything you need and a good selection of stock. It even has that Charity Shop smell.
