Dear Sofi De France, thank you for getting me through my 30 minute lunch breaks between back-to-back tutorials. Cute little French place situated towards the center of the Covered Market. Looks a tad bit like a diner from the outside but is really rather atmospheric, as long as you are with good company and have a seat! Lovely sandwiches and jacket potatoes with specials of the day and choice of toppings. Normally dishes come with either crisps or a small side salad. The French brie is delicious and you can’t go wrong with their paninis. The prices are dirt cheap for the central location and I usually can get a meal and a drink for like £4.50, sometimes less. Lots of vegetarian options as well! The staff are friendly, although in a rush around their busy times. The place gets packed around lunch time(which is the best meal they do) and seating is quite limited. I prefer the tables right outside of the café, leaving you with a sight of the market and a chance to people watch. The pastries look nice, but I must admit that I am yet to have one. Will definitely grab one on the way to lectures. Leave it to the French to make food delicious, convenient, and quick! Vive la France!

This is a nice place to eat if you happen to be in the covered market, they do a wide range of lunch items and you can choose to eat in or take-away(Eat in is slightly more expensive). I find the prices very reasonable, and probably one of the cheapest in the market. The staff are quite friendly, and helpful. Only downside is there isn’t much space, so if it’s busy you may not get a table. And there isn’t much room for pushchairs, and not really somewhere I would take children because of the lack of space. Try their sister café, sofi 2 under car fax tower, more room and more child friendly.
