Went to the gate on Saturday for dinner, all I can say is brilliant! I had tiger prawns cooked with spring onion, chilli, and garlic followed by the widely talked about gate burger which was recommended by the waitress Ellie. My wife had homemade pâté which was served with a delicious red onion chutney. Followed by rabbit pie. Homemade chips it’s a must for me from now on, best chips in Saddleworth. We then stayed for the act which was Johnny Sax, there is live entertainment every week by the looks of it, and I do think my wife and I will be spending a bit of time there as it was a great night!

Just went into the Hanging Gate(Friday night at 21.20) to have a quiet drink with my wife while we waited for our daughter who was playing in a concert up the road. Pub was moderately busy with people drinking, didn’t see any food. Went to the bar and was greeted with the phrase We’re shut, Diggle Hotel! I thought she was joking so I smiled at the joke, embarassed silence then when I tried to order a drink I got the same response. At this point I realised she wasn’t joking. I’m 50 something, hardly a trouble maker and I’ve never been turfed out of a pub before! Update Just been back for another visit and it feels like a different place! Much more welcoming! Haven’t tried food yet but ale was good so hopefully my star uprating will be accepted.

Came to the pub after reading the review above. Pub opens 3 until 11, with a large sign reading«now serving food» displayed outside. We went in and were told that they only serve food thurs-sun. Pretty ridiculous, don’t go out of your way to come here. Go to saddleworth instead.
